RP: a brunch too long in the making
Who: Eliza & Roxanne
What: The girls somehow finally make time to get together and catch up over bottomless mimosas.
When: 05/28/28; noon-ish
Where: a muggle cafe in London
Warnings: Perhaps adult discussion.
Completion Status: complete.

Eliza and Roxanne had finally both found a Saturday that they were free to get together and catch up. The two had grown up close thanks to their mothers, and only been a year apart in school, but it had gotten harder to see each other in person as they'd both gone into the world and made lives for themselves. Eliza was probably more to blame than Roxy, and she did feel bad about that, but she was finally putting in the effort. She'd even kept her cocktails to a minimum at Sanguine last night, so as not to be too hungover for her brunch out.

She made it just at noon, her hair still wet without time to dry it properly with a charm before rushing out of the house, but she was proud of herself for being on time even if it was a close one, and saw Roxy at a table on the outdoor patio, a pitcher of mimosas already settled on the two-top. She waved and wound her way through the tables and chairs and gave Roxanne a half hug while still standing before crashing into her seat. "I'm not late," she said with a bit too much force - mostly trying to convince herself - and then laughed at herself. "How are you, babe?" she asked, reaching for her empty glass and the pitcher, nodding her head with a wry smile at her friend in thanks for having already ordered it.

"Oh, you're not late." They'd agreed to a laid back brunch without too much pomp. Well, a little pomp. There was a pitcher of mimosas between them and as many as they cared to drink.

"Just happy for a day off." She couldn't remember the last time she had one and with the Quidditch season coming to an end she was looking forward to more time out. "How's the family business going?" Roxanne had never truly going into business with her family but working in McLaggen's shop she'd see how stressful it can be.

Eiza gave her friend a smile of thanks for her understanding. "Been that busy, eh?" She asked, grateful yet again that she got to keep to her easy weekday hours, even during the busier times (though, really, at an old clock shop, how busy could things really get?).

"It's been... Well, boring as ever," she said with a laugh. "Uncle Henry's as obsessed as ever, too, though," she rolled her eyes. Her Uncle Henry was... A lot. It was like the way he'd been overprotective to her mother had somehow transferred to her.

She took a long drink of her first mimosa and asked, "Never ending, yes?" indicating the pitcher. There weren't many places that did bottomless mimosas, but the few there were, were definitely her favorites.

"Busy as ever." She scrunched up her nose. It was one thing to work in a Quidditch shop. It was another thing entirely to work at McLaggens. "They've got all the Magpies jerseys up to prepare for the Cup already."

"Is he still treating you like your mom?" Eliza had mentioned that her uncle was a bit overbearing.

Roxanne poured herself another mimosa, "And yes they are neverending."

Eliza scrunched her own nose, "Sounds dreadful, and besides, what if they don't make it? Or do well in the... off season? Or whatever it's called." Despite Eliza's mother being a quidditch nut, that particular gene had not made its way to Eliza's DNA.

She laughed, "Of course he is. Except he treats me like he treated Mum back when they were kids, so it's somehow even worse. Like she didn't grow up and survive and raise a kid on her own, like she's still some injured 6th year or something," Eliza knew what about the attack that had nearly killed her mother while Katie was in school, but it all seemed so distantly in the past to her, that she just couldn't understand Uncle Henry's behavior, even after having grown up dealing with it non-stop. "How's your family? Mum says to tell Angie hi, by the way," Eliza was informal, and luckily, Angelina Weasley always had been, too.

"You know the Cormac, or at least Katie does." She sipped her mimosa, "I haven't known a McLaggen to think too deeply into anything."

"Of course I'll pass it along!" Even with working so close to the joke shop she didn't see her parents nearly as much as she should. Her mother had been so important to her through her last two years at school.

"Everyone's doing alright. Dad still has the shop. Fred's buried in cases most of the time. And mom is buried in the throes of the end of the Season. So we're all busy, surprised?"

Eliza snorted into her champagne flute, "Too true, though Mum says Lavender is smarter than they let off, and I think I remember... Skye? Wasn't she towards the top of my year?" She shook her head, she couldn't quite remember. "She seemed smart in classes, at least," she shrugged. She hadn't paid much attention to the Slytherins in her year, if she was honest - they all had Queen Bee attitudes (and even if it hadn't had anything to do with family name or blood purity, it was still annoying as hell).

Eliza rolled her eyes again, "As if they don't talk, like, nearly every single day." She'd grown up with Roxanne and Fred, and their mothers' other best friend - Alicia Pucey, had always had her kids, the twins and Sebastian along. Fred and the twins were older, but the twins had understood her in a way the others couldn't. The Dead Dads Club. Not that she'd ever call it that out loud.

"You're Weasleys, of course I'm not surprised." She said with a laugh indicating she really wasn't insulting them, it was just the nature of the family - always busy, always overachieving. "Don't forget, I've been in the Weasley shadow since I was a fetus, not that I'm complaining, though, Mum doesn't see it as me being a slacker, just not as ambitious as you lot, so it worked out in my favor," she said with a grin and a wink.

"Food?" She asked, picking up the menu and ooh-ing and aah-ing over the daily specials.

"Lavender is fantastic and reins her husband in when it's necessary." Roxanne giggled thinking of all the times she watched Lavender ply Cormac with her obvious charm. "I thought you and Skye were neck in neck. I could also be misremembering, she doesn't stop in too often. Being at the Prophet and all."

"We all tended to dive headfirst and ask questions later." Roxanne flashed a fiendish smile. "I think Molly is finally taking the plunge into full blown fashion designer!"

"Yes!" She watched Eliza pick up the menu and followed suit. Everything looked delicious. Sweet and Savory alike, but her question was which way her cravings would lead her.

Eliza had had very little contact with the elder McLaggens, even though she'd been in the same year as their daughter Skye. She knew of Hunter, of course, even if she knew nothing of Quidditch. He had been seeing Molly Sue Weasley for ages it seemed, though she'd had more than one delightful 'hot celebrity Quidditch Star' thought about him over the years and that was a bit of a shame.

"Isn't their Quidditch star son dating one of your cousins?" She didn't know too many of the Weasleys, even if her mother had been close with George, Roxy's branch of the family was really the only ones she knew. Eliza laughed, "Oh, no, I was no where near the top of the class, pretty sure I barely passed my NEWTs." She shrugged, though, she hadn't cared too much about classes, if she was honest.

Eliza waved down a waitress - pretty girl, brunette, with a brilliant smile - and indicated Roxy should order and then requested her own items. French toast with strawberries and a side of bacon. She also asked for their pitcher to be refilled and warned the waitress that it wouldn't be the last time they asked. The girl gave them a conspiratorial smile and laughed before heading to put in their order. She was back in a flash with a fresh pitcher for them.

Roxanne when ahead and ordered her own food. A breakfast hash with eggs benedict. If they cooked it right, she be able to cut into the egg and watch the yolk gush down into the hash.

"Oh, yeah that's Molly!" She hadn't checked in with her since Molly's emergency group text about her next big step. It seemed like all of her cousins had something going on.

She'd sort of known of Molly Sue in school - she was a couple years younger than the blonde Weasley - but she'd also only really known her as yet another one of those 'Queen Bee' types, and Eliza had her whole own world going on. In a way, she was really grateful Roxy had never been like that - she easily could have been, and Eliza would have been stuck with one of those girls!

She shrugged again, pouring them both more drinks, "I didn't ever really know her. Hunter on the other hand, was like the most eligible bachelor in wizarding Britain, so him I knew of," she laughed. Of course, if anyone knew how hot another Quidditch legacy was - not that he played Quidditch, but whatever - Hunter wouldn't have had a hope of being 'most eligible'. That honour should go consistantly to Milo Wood, she was certain.

"So, other than work and stupid sports," she said the last bit with a heavy dose of cheek, "what have you been up to? Any hot ladies I should know about?" Roxy wasn't nearly the partier Eliza was, but she had to have some sort of social life, outside of the massive Weasley clan, right?

It seemed so odd to think that someone in their year could even be considered 'most eligible' anything.

Roxanne took another sip of her mimosa, "Well that's why I'm excited to have more free time." He face must be the same shade as her hair by now. "I haven't had much luck since I decided to start looking around." It still felt like a difficult subject to talk about, especially with Eliza.

"No luck from the dating app? I've heard a lot of success stories..." Eliza sympathized with a sigh. "I mean, you're always welcome to come out with me and Etta - the clubs we go to don't discriminate and it's not like they're 'straight' clubs or anything. I've met lots of lovely, willing queer women in my time..." Eliza was straight as they come, but there was nothing wrong with making out with a hot woman on the dance floor to drive the men wild. Always sucked having to the clarify later that she wasn't exactly interested - just not my type, sorry - but she rarely let such things bother her if it meant she got a great hot man on her arm and a hot lay later in the night.

"When does this free start? We'll have to celebrate." She said it so matter-of-factly, as if there was no question. And really, there wasn't.

"That's what I had heard!" She slammed the rest of her mimosa. "I thought dating apps were supposed to be easier than this." She huffed as she poured herself another drink.

She'd thought that maybe she would have to trying more traditional approach. "Clubbing could work." She mused. "At least it's a most active role in all of this."

"First of the month." She smirked. "You don't mind showing me around the scene?" Eliza had always been more for a party than Roxanne ever was.

"I mean, it's a numbers game. Have you messaged a total ton of ladies? Are you being picky? Online dating isn't like the real world - it's an algorithm, babe." Eliza said sympathetically. She reach out and patted Roxy's hand that had just set down the empty flute. She held up her own cup to be topped off as Roxy finished pouring her own.

"I don't mind at all, though there's not much to show around. I might have to lend you an outfit." Eliza didn't care much for fashion - she was very much a jeans and t-shirt girl - but she knew clubs had dress codes and she loved showing off her body, so she knew how to do club attire thing down to a tee. She somehow doubted Roxy even owned a clubbing dress. Her thinking that wasn't a lesbian thing, it was just a Roxy thing.

"I'm not sure what I'm looking for, I guess." Roxanne didn't like admitting it. It made her feel hapless, incapable of doing it on her own. "Still trying to figure out what I like." Eliza would understand that. She was more keen on these topics.

"Oh, yeah. I don't think I have much." She felt more over her head than a few months ago. "There might have to be a shopping day soon." Her clothes were functional, not quite for the club scene.

"That's why you date! To figure it out! Goodness knows I have no clue, which is why I try as many different options as I can," Eliza said with a waggle of her eyebrows. "What if we take a look at your dating profile? I don't have one, but even I can admit I tend to know what people... want." She put emphasis on the last word. She meant sexually, and she was pretty sure Roxy understood as much.

"We can definitely shop, but you can always borrow anything of mine, you know that. I may be taller, but that's only a good thing, my minis will be extra mini on you!"

"It couldn't hurt." Roxy fished her phone out of her bag and opened it up to the dating app. The pictures are awful, that I already know." She never had anyone look over it before she had sent it live, but who would have? Fred? He was just as confused how to do this as she was.

"Ooo, you're right!" She was excited at the prospect of clubbing with her friend and hopefully with a little help she understand the whole dating scene a bit better.

"Uh, yeah. Babe. You are way hotter than this." She handed her phone back, "We'll work on that, we need to get better pictures of you first though. I'm sure we do that with no problem." Eliza's voice was a little flat. How on earth could Roxy be wondering why she wasn't getting any matches with a dating profile like that?

"So, next weekend? Yes? I'll be at Carnival Friday night and Sanguine Saturday night, most likely. I happen to have my eyes on a regular there..." She didn't elaborate, but definitely wanted to dish details on her spicy meet ups with Milo Wood.

Roxanne took her phone and shuffled back and forth between the two pictures she had on the account. "Okay, I guess you're right."

She looked down and away with a contorted smirk. She hadn't quite thought that the pictures were the problem. She'd spent time looking at the words underneath and trying different iterations to make it more appealing. "I'll take any help you can give me." She'd owe Eliza something big after this. It make her feel like a burden on Eliza's own social calendar.

"And yes to next weekend." She heard Eliza mention a 'regular' but trailed off. Roxy didn't push, seeing their server returning with their food and another pitcher of mimosas.
