Bash actually brought home pastries for us all from Sweet Nothings today. I'm not sure what's going on with the grumpy bugger but if he carries on like this I may miss living with him!

Since she didn't freak out, Thad assumed she understood he didn't mean anytime soon, thankfully. They seemed the be on the same page when it came to most things concerning their future, especially now that they'd talked a bit more about their long-term living arrangements. "Oh gods, did you get pissed?" he asked teasingly. If she really had turned it into a drinking game, she probably would have, he could imagine.

"That sounds like a splendid idea," he replied, pulling away from her with a slightly dramatic sigh so he could go make the coffee. When it was ready, he floated two mugs, doctored up how they each preferred it, over to the coffee table in front of the couch before grabbing a couple small plates for the pastries and joining her back at the couch.

"With any luck, you won't meet any of my grandparents," he told her rather bluntly as he sat back down. "I'm afraid neither side of the family were particularly good during the big war. Both grandfathers are still in prison, and both grandmothers snaked out of any consequences. Mum and dad have fought hard to build a reputation outside of their parents," he explained. And they seemed to have accomplished it, but it still felt important for Dagny to know that bit of family history.

"Mm." Dagny smiled. "Let's just say I was comfortably tipsy."

By the time Thad rejoined her, Dagny had shifted to a cross-legged position on the couch. She took the plates from him, adding the pastries to them. While she still wasn't sure what had prompted a good enough mood for Bash to show generosity like this, she couldn't complain and even hoped it would continue.

For some reason, it didn't come as a huge shock to hear that history. Dagny knew more about that era of British history than most of her peers at Ilvermorny precisely because her parents had settled in St Thomas to avoid the sort of people who had ended up in prison. Like Thad's grandparents, apparently.

"I think a lot of families have skeletons in the closet." She still thought it suspicious that her great-grandfather lived on an unplottable property in Brazil, but they never talked about that. "Don't worry about it. I think Bash is kinda impressed that you survived meeting ours."

He was relieved that Dagny took the bit about his grandparents in stride. He rather thought his family had proved they'd moved out of the shadows after the war, and most of the time, he didn't even think about the murky pasts of his parents or grandparents.

"Well, that's probably because Bash doesn't know how to charm people. Especially old people," Thad joked, though there was a thread of truth in the words. If anyone ever asked him to describe Bash, the first word he would probably ever say was prickly, and even if the other guy was showing signs of better moods these days, Thad wasn't counting on a complete personality overhaul for his old dormmate.

With some confidence, Dagny said, "Charming isn't a word I would ever use to describe my darling cousin." She'd known him her whole life, but he was still something of a mystery. Dagny would miss him when she moved out, though. Speaking of which...

"So, I don't think it's going to take me too much longer to pack all my things." She had sold any furniture she did own when she left New York, so most of her belongings fit in just a few trunks. "Do we want to pick a day for me to move?"

"Good," Thad said at first, his grin going a bit crooked. He wanted her to move in or he wouldn't have brought it up in the first place. "Whichever day works best for you. Practice starts back up next Monday, so hopefully before then?"

He did hope to have some time of domestic bliss with her before he had to get back to the strict training and diet schedules, not that he'd been some gorging sloth in this off time.

Dagny leant over to kiss him before picking up her coffee. She wanted a few days with him before his training schedule picked up, too. "Maybe one day after work this week." That way they'd definitely have the weekend to themselves before the Magpies monopolised his time for the next few months.

"We can order in dinner, completely ignore the unpacking..." She flashed Thad a cheeky smile, very much looking forward to starting their shared life together.

"Mm, sounding better and better with every word," Thad said, loving every bit of cheek and wit she came out with. He wasn't under any illusions that things would always be smooth sailing between them, but he dreamt of a relationship like his parents had, one of true partnership, clear communication, and an enduring love that was worth working through the rough patches for. He hadn't imagined finding his person this early in life, but he certainly wasn't going to let go easily now that he had.

"We could get in a bit of practice today, if you'd like, ignoring the unpacking and all," he suggested, waggling his brows exaggeratedly at her.

Dagny pouted teasingly, holding up her cup. "You're asking me to choose you over delicious, delicious coffee?" The pout morphed to a grin. "Which I will always do, one hundred per cent of the time," she confirmed. Coffee and pastries could wait. Putting Thad first as much as she could in their life together was important to her. They'd known each other less than a year, but what they had felt so solid to her. She'd never felt like such an equal in a relationship and it was something that seemed like the perfect thing to build a future on.

She set her coffee to the side, a gleam in her eye. "Practice makes perfect."

Cringing rather comically, Thad looked between the coffee, the pastries, and Dagny, as though he hadn't realized what he'd suggested. He chuckled a beat later, though, setting his own coffee aside and tugging her rather abruptly toward his lap. "Indeed," he agreed before kissing her.

Before Thad, Dagny had never really gone in for overly romantic sentiments. Calling your boyfriend your 'other half' just seemed like saccharine nonsense. Her worth wasn't reliant on someone else. She didn't need a man to make her complete.

But this man? This man made her feel like together they were more than the sum of their parts. Perhaps that was what 'other half' really meant. Dagny melted into the kiss, more than okay with that.
