Some tips for those that are newly made telepaths via magical nonsense of this place:

  • Humming a favorite song of yours helps drown out the noise.
  • Warm baths and candles can relax those muscles that you haven't realised you've been tensing up in response to hearing voices in your head.
  • Watching a movie or reading a book mutes the noise considerably.
  • Alcohol helps.
I encourage people who have found ways to help with the voices in your head to share your tricks.

Also, if anyone knows of any bookstores hiring, please let me know.

Do you normally read minds then?

I do. I try not to and mostly I manage to keep out of people's heads.

Probably for the best. No one likes someone else poking around in there.

I've been trying really hard not to think about anything too embarrassing.

What do you like to read?

Trashy grocery store romance novels. They're awful and that's where the enjoyment lies.

The ones where the guy doesn't wear a shirt and the woman's hair is always blowing in the wind?

Hey, everyone's allowed their guilty pleasures!

Not a bad choice. What type of music do you like to listen to?

I'm a violinist. A lot of classical, musicals, anything we're playing at the orchestra. But I'm not limited to that for listening.

Good advice. I'd throw in weed does not help, since you mentioned alcohol, but I don't hear voices, exactly. Not usually, anyway Proceed with caution, all ye who enter the weirdness.

That's good to know! I know the mileage on these suggestions might vary depending on the person, but I figured it would be a start for people struggling with this.

For some it might, for others, it might not. Not all suggestions work the same for everyone. Did your hangover come from whoever you're sharing thoughts with?

Yeah, I think so :( I know some great hangover cures because I've been around a lot of people during an absolute rager at the Haus after the playoff wins, but it was hard to concentrate and project that to them because I felt so bad that they had to keep walking around with it all day!!

Gonna disagree about the alcohol. It tends to just create a bigger problem.

Hm, the alcohol has never dulled me from reading people, but then I was raised on vodka practically from a bottle.

Finding something that grounds you, that gives you a focus, that sometimes helps.

There are magical means of blocking voices. If this doesn't clear up in a day or so, or someone is very concerned about their own thoughts wandering, the cottage is open for business.

There is a magical art to closing one's mind to intrusion. We call it Occlumency. There are two branches: emptying one's mind completely, similar to meditation, and only hiding certain parts of one's mind, which is meant to give the illusion that you're easily accessible. The latter is far more difficult to master for obvious reasons. I only ever knew two people who could do it successfully.
