Two.
Odd, that the royalty in the English family has such despicable style. I have found the telly a most fascinating interest and time to be had, though the Queen belittles herself by wearing such ridiculous hats, and by dressing herself in a most obscene yellow, as a runny egg has passed and solidified over her body.

My own family is not quite so vain, and I am grateful for that.

Zounds, how bizarre, how queer, how absurd.

I have been told that I speak like a Count, or more exactly, The Count from some odd-sounding show on the telly. And when I show that I truly do not understand what is meant, I am asked to count anything. "One street urchin, two street urchins," and then to laugh.

There is much in this world that baffles, and much more that makes no existent sense.

[ooc; i've been mega away and totally missed that Arthur replaced William, edited to fix that! \o]

Plagues and pestilence? How very odd. They continued through the ignorance of peasants, who visited open graves and did not do what was required to bury corpses properly. The maggots within the dead formed diseases much worse than that which was passed from cough and cold. The dead arise in legends and in lore, due to the sicknesses foolish mortals brought back from vandalizing graves, and perhaps making their bed with them in many places. Thus was born the idea of the undead, of zombies—an ancient fear, though completely illogical. Once dead, truly dead, a man cannot return.

As an employer of gypsies, it is quite abominable for nomads like themselves to be equated as the only ones who raped and pillaged, as the saying goes. Does not remember the reign of the Russian families, or those who fought for the church, only to corrupt the name of nature of their Creator and infect and infest with their foul seed?

I only meant that cruelty and the ability to be terrible is something that everyone has, and godawful things have always, and will always happen.

I'm sure a lot of the technology must be really confusing.

There is some truth in that fiction and some fiction in that truth, making it not a truth at all.

I am very unaccustomed to it, you are correct. However, I have lived a long and interesting life without such contrivances, I can manage without them here.

Most of them are just for fun, anyway, though a lot of them have made things easier on us all.

Am I to presume you know much about them, Miss...?

Garcia. I know a lot about certain specific machines, yeah.

Well met, Miss Garcia. I am Prince Vlad Dracula, the last of the line of my ancestors in Romania.

I know it's rude, but I know who you are. It's nice to meet you.

It is not rude to say you have known a version of me, whatever it may be, in your literary endeavours. Just do well to remember that there is some fiction in your truth and some truth in your fiction. Though more fantastical than the life I have led, it would need to be, for it is not that much of interest, truly.

I have yet to venture to read it...though what I have heard is less than promising.

It's very romantic. Ish. Romanticish.

How absurd. I cannot fathom myself being romantic.

Tell me, Miss Garcia, how does one go about getting toast out of the silver machine with the slots without being shocked?

... it should just pop up after a while. If not, just wiggle the handle upward. Don't put any silverware into the slots, it hurts. ... but it sounds like you figured that out already.

It does not move. It sits in its metallic case and sizzles far past proper toast, and it burns. To remove it, I used a small fork, and yet it jolted me. I pulled the pug out of the socket after that, though the stench has remained in the kitchen ever since.

Huh, it sounds like the setting is up too high. Some people like burned toast, though why is beyond me.

If it's not plugged in, you can use a fork to get it out. The electric current's gone, so you're safe. I can come help, if you want.

My mistake, then, it seems I have, the phrase is American, I believe? "Jumped the gun"?

That would be very suitable if you were ever to have the time. I have very little understanding of most everything in this..."flat."

Oh, no, it's fine, really. Toasters have been around a long time and everyone still swears at them on a semidaily basis.

I can swing by after work today, if you'd like, around six? I'm in London too, most of us are.

After six? My, yes, that would be very kind of you indeed. I shall inform the man at the desk of your visit.
