The fight between Echo and her mom had been raging from the day she returned from Hogwarts to the day she was accepted to the strange college in the strange town in Georgia. Amelia didn't want Echo to go there, but wouldn't tell her why. She would come up with a new excuse weekly, but each time have to back down because truth be told, Echo was her own person now and legally allowed to make her own decisions.
Finally Echo just packed the car and left, not caring what her mom thought anymore. Of course as soon as she hit Arkansas on her long drive to Georgia the cell phone began to ring. Though the fight now was about something totally different.
"Echo Persephone O'Brien, Why are you answering your cell while you are driving?""Why are you calling if you didn't want me to answer."
"That's not what I asked, and don't talk to me that way.""Oh mom, just back off okay. I will call you when I get there, and here's a wacky thought, if you don't want me to answer the phone while driving, then DON"T CALL." Once Echo said that she slammed the phone shut and tossed the phone aside. Of course that didn't do any good as her mom called at least three more times, but Echo ignored it.
After nearly 20 hours of driving, and being completely exhausted. Echo finally made it to the small campus in Franklin Springs. Of course no sooner has she pulled up to the dorms and parked did her cell ring again. She was clearly not ready to deal with her mom so yet again Echo ignored the call, though part of her wished she had answered it. If she had she would have been distracted from finding out who her roommate was. Seeing that it was Luna Lovegood only made her mood even worse.
It wasn't that she didn't like Luna, there wasn't much to hate about the girl per se, it was just that Echo found her a bit annoying and weird and couldn't imagine sharing a room with her. The odd thing of course was that it didn't bother her as much as rooming next door to Draco Malfoy. Sure the two were family, albeit distant, but she couldn't bring herself to be happy about that after the hell she went through at Hogwarts.
As Echo dealt with this knowledge her phone rang for the 15th time in a matter of 20 minutes so she answered it in a rather loud voice. Everyone in the dorm house could hear the one sided argument about everything from the information that Draco was not only there but her house mate, and then that brought up the fact that the minor detail of co-ed housing had been left out of the tales of this college, to the annoyance that her daughter, her only daughter, was now1040 miles away from her. There was also the normal motherly nagging over what she didn't take with her and what she did, along with the warnings of what would happen if she wrecked the car. They were stupid to fight about these things, Echo knew this, but she couldn't bring herself to stop fighting. Resisting the urge to curse at her mom she finally simply replied.
"Fine! You made your point mom! Now I HAVE TO GO! BYE!" and slammed the cell phone shut hanging up on her mom.
It took everything in the young witch's power to not throw her cell across the front room of the dorm, shattering it into many pieces, so instead she cursed loudly and punched the nearest wall, which of course only led to more cursing and a bruised hand.
Realizing she was overreacting just a bit Echo found a nearby chair and with a loud sigh fell forward a bit placing her head in her hands. "I have to call her back now" She whispered, clearly to herself, and no clue that others were watching.
