Today in WoW someone didn't know what Alli is.

Okay, so what happened, for some reason I was talking in Local Defense about having faction-jumped to play a worgen in the future, and someone said something like, "No, you know you really want to be Alli because we're awesome."

And I said something like, "Yes, Alli is so awesome you guys share a name with a diet pill that makes your asshole leak."

Then somebody said something about how I should know because I was obviously the kind of loser who takes diet pills that cause a leaky asshole.

To be perfectly honest, it's really amusing when people try to insult me on the internet and they miss the mark so badly. Seriously, LOL. Me. Diet pills. Right?

But the thing was, some of the people in Local Defense had no idea what I was talking about. How does that happen? There are huge displays of it in Walmart. Their diet book warns you to wear dark pants and bring extra clothes to work because Alli makes shit leak out of your asshole. It also makes oil pour out of your pores, I guess, because of the way it blocks you from processing fat or something. And is gross. And I wish I could fucking find the post I remember reading (maybe on Shapely Prose but I'm not sure) by someone who had actually tried this shit and explained about feeling like an enormous grease ball the entire time zie was on it because it makes your body just expel grease in every possible way.

How do you not hear about this?

First off, the best thing I've seen all week: Rings Around The World, or The Rings of Earth, a short video on what the Earth would look like if it had rings. It's really good! If we all write in to Barack Obama, do you reckon he'll blow up the moon for us so we can have some rings?

Talking of lobbying, the UK Government is thinking of introducing proposals to cut off accused filesharers without warning or indeed anything approaching due process of law. If you think that's a bad idea, sign this petition! (UK residents/citizens only.)

Meanwhile, over in Minneapolis, you can if you wish go and see A Christmas Carol in Klingon. If I lived there, I'd be almost tempted. :)

This post gets worse, I'm afraid. Much worse. First of all, there is The Meow Mix, which will put the fear of Bast into you for life.

Next, the 30 Most Disturbing Twilight Products. I don't know whether my favourites are the sparkly dildo, the Edward Cullen silhouette wall decal, or Bella's uterus (don't ask).

And finally, awesome multi-fandom sparkly news. For next year's Simpsons Halloween special, they plan to have Lisa fall in love with a vampire who sparkles. As if that wasn't funny enough, the vampire is voiced by none other than... Daniel Radcliffe.

Told you it was awesome. :)

Turns out, when your spouse is in another state driving a very large truck, you expect after-midnight calls to mean your spouse is in the hospital.

I must point you especially to her answer to number #5, "What is it about Severus you find sexy?" because OMG it's a great answer (in under 100 words).

So I have sorted out what my trouble is with NaNo and has been since 2005.

Well, okay, I'm not entirely sure about 2005, because a large part of that was that November 2005 was the month I met Nigel, and I became preoccupied with the beginning of a relationship and having sex on a regular basis.

But apart from that, my trouble is and has been that, after winning in 2004, I began trying to take NaNo seriously.

This is a fatal mistake.

While it is all well and good that I want to take on these big ambitious projects--the Lilith Davis Chronicles, the Pernfic, YA novels involving half-sirens and/or lesbian separatist werewolves--they are best attempted at other times and at a slower pace.

November is for silliness.

I realized I was taking NaNo far too seriously this year when tresca_cho's suggestion to add ninjas and stir seemed like a bad idea. It's NaNo! Of course I should add ninjas!

But, you see, it is the Pernfic, and I have specific goals for the Pernfic, and there are no ninjas on Pern.

I am up my own ass about it this year. That's why it isn't working.

The year I won, I padded my word count with comic relief pirates, gratuitous gay sex, and a song about rum 75% of whose lyrics were "rum". I also set the thing in a fictional world of my own devising, which saved me a lot of research, although my seamanship book was invaluable. This year I can't find my Dragonlover's Guide to Pern, which was a body blow to my writing effort, and I am trying too hard to write the thing in Anne McCaffrey's voice, which is a stupid idea in the first place. Also I am trying to write something actually serious, which never works for me. Possibly all my enormous unfinished projects need to be revamped and made more silly.

The Pernfic will be finished eventually (with added silliness and flirting). It will not happen this month. I am abandoning NaNo this year, on the grounds that I am not in the right headspace for it. Next year I'm going to come back strong with Discworld-meets-Hornblower--and maybe even a ninja or two.
