( Remember: drabble posts now appear on livejournal and insanejournal and dreamwidth) Challenge #310: "The Unwritten Pairing" This week's challenge might be a bit of a stretch in that you're being asked to write a drabble focusing on Snape paired romantically and/or sexually (but not necessarily graphically) with a character with whom you've never paired him before. (Note: for the fight-to-the-death OTP folks in the community, feel free to tell your drabble from the perspective of the "delusional" imagination of the other party. *g*) Tags: challenges
November 22nd, 2009 bethbethbeth @ 09:18 am: Challenge #309: "Wikipedia, Redux!"
( Remember: drabble posts now appear on livejournal and insanejournal and dreamwidth) Challenge #309: "Wikipedia, Redux!" This week's challenge is a revival of Challenge 178 from May of 2007. To play, go to Wikipedia's Main Page, then click on the "Random Article" link in the navigation bar on the upper left of the page, and use whatever you get as your prompt (to make it more amusing for all, please provide a link to the page you're using). If you honestly can't think of anything related to your first prompt, try again, but no more than three tries please: this is a challenge, after all. (Note: this time around, when I tried I ended up with an Evangelical Christian preacher, which...seemed quite unrelated...until I realized the man's name was "Bobby Brewer." *g*) Tags: challenges
November 15th, 2009 bethbethbeth @ 09:32 am: Challenge #308: "The 'Other Family'"
( Remember: drabble posts now appear on livejournal and insanejournal and dreamwidth) Challenge #308: "The 'Other Family' " It's not much of a stretch to believe that a great deal of adult!Snape was shaped, at least in part, by the family in which he was raised. Bearing that in mind, this week's challenge is to imagine what might have happened if, at some point - probably before Severus started at Hogwarts, but possibly later - Tobias and Eileen Snape were no longer in the picture (for whatever reason) and Severus was taken in to be raised by another family. Would his life (and death) have been the same, or would a different environment have made a difference in his eventual fate? Write what you will, as long as your drabble focuses on Snape and the 'Other Family.' Tags: challenges
November 8th, 2009 bethbethbeth @ 10:10 am: Challenge #307: "The (Traditional) Five Senses: Touch "
( Remember: drabble posts now appear on livejournal and insanejournal and dreamwidth) Challenge #307: "The (Traditional) Five Senses: Touch " This week's challenge is the last of five prompts related to the five traditional human senses. Your drabble should center on some aspect of touch, including (but not limited to): pain, comfort, massage, touch deprivation, etc. Write what you will, as long as your drabble focuses on Snape and Touch. November 1st, 2009 bethbethbeth @ 09:45 am: Challenge #306: "The (Traditional) Five Senses: Smell"
( Remember: drabble posts now appear on livejournal and insanejournal and dreamwidth) Challenge #306: "The (Traditional) Five Senses: Smell" This week's challenge is the fourth of five prompts related to the five traditional human senses. You can build your drabble around Snape's sense of smell, the odors associated with Amortentia, what an Animagus with enhanced olfactory senses might smell when Snape walks in the room, or anything else you want as long as you focus on Snape and Smell. October 25th, 2009 bethbethbeth @ 09:04 am: Challenge #305: "The (Traditional) Five Senses: Taste"
( Remember: drabble posts now appear on livejournal and insanejournal and dreamwidth) Challenge #305: "The (Traditional) Five Senses: Taste" This week's challenge is the third of five prompts related to the five traditional human senses. Your drabble should center on...'gustation,' specifically the five taste sensations: sweet, salty, sour, bitter - and the most recent addition to the group: umami (note: if you cheat and use some other definition of "taste," well, I can't stop you, can I? *g*). Write what you will, as long as your drabble focuses on Snape and Taste. Tags: challenges
October 18th, 2009 bethbethbeth @ 10:06 am: Challenge #304: "The (Traditional) Five Senses: Hearing"
( Remember: drabble posts now appear on livejournal and insanejournal and dreamwidth) Challenge #304: "The (Traditional) Five Senses: Hearing" This week's challenge is the second of five prompts related to the five traditional human senses. Your drabble should center on sound perception (including those heard at lower and higher frequencies than humans usually hear) or you can write about something related to the inability to hear entirely, as long as your drabble focuses on Snape and Hearing. October 11th, 2009 bethbethbeth @ 10:03 am: Challenge #303: "The (Traditional) Five Senses: Sight"
( Remember: drabble posts now appear on livejournal and insanejournal and dreamwidth) Challenge #303: "The (Traditional) Five Senses: Sight" This week's challenge is the first of five prompts related to the five traditional human senses. You can write a drabble that centers on actual visual perception or you can consider a more metaphoric meaning of the word, as long as your drabble focuses on sight and Severus Snape. October 4th, 2009 bethbethbeth @ 10:06 am: Challenge #302: "Snape's Private Rooms"
( Remember: drabble posts now appear on livejournal and insanejournal and dreamwidth) Challenge #302: "Snape's Private Rooms" This week's challenge is to write a drabble about Snape's rooms at Hogwarts. Are they self-indulgently opulent? Monastically spare? Cold and damp as befits a dungeon lair? And is there anything that Snape keeps in his rooms that might surprise his students or his colleagues...or us? Tags: challenges
September 27th, 2009 bethbethbeth @ 09:35 am: Challenge #301: "Snape's First Date"
( Remember: drabble posts now appear on livejournal and insanejournal and dreamwidth) Challenge #301: "Snape's First Date" For many people (even for me, on occasion), the idea of Severus Snape on a date may appear anti-canonical, but that's why it's called a challenge! *g* This week, your challenge is to write a drabble that features Snape on a date with somebody. His partner, his age at the time, the venue, the circumstances surrounding the date: all are up to you. Tags: challenges
September 20th, 2009 bethbethbeth @ 09:01 am: Challenge #300: "Severus Snape: De-Aged"
( Remember: drabble posts now appear on livejournal and insanejournal and dreamwidth) Challenge #300: "Severus Snape: De-Aged" This week's challenge - our 300th - comes to you from rage_jt: "Severus De-aged: Okay, it's cliched, but let's have your ideas. Having kept all his memories, would Severus still elect to go to Hogwarts, would he go somewhere else, or would he give up school altogether (he has his memories after all). It's up to you what age he's de-aged to; perhaps it isn't school age at all but somewhere in between. It's your choice as long as your drabble focuses on Snape being de-aged." Thanks, rage_jtTags: challenges
September 13th, 2009 bethbethbeth @ 10:12 am: Challenge #299: "Severus Snape: Stripped Bare"
( Remember: drabble posts now appear on livejournal and insanejournal and dreamwidth) Challenge #299: "Severus Snape: Stripped Bare" Despite what some of the more naughty-minded of you might think, this week's challenge does not require an NC-17 rating. You could, instead, write a drabble about Eileen bathing Baby!Snape. Or Snape going swimming for the first time. Or you could consider "stripped bare" in a more metaphorical sense. Or you could, you know, just think in terms of sex. Note: After pulling a name from our group of eligible writers and commenters out of a hat, rage_jt gets to decide what special challenge we'll have for Challenge #300. rage_jt: please email me at bethbethbeth [at] gmail [dot] com to discuss your challenge! (And yes, there's a second and third pick, in case rage_jt decides against choosing the challenge)Tags: challenges
September 6th, 2009 bethbethbeth @ 09:41 am: Challenge #298: "Snape in his Classroom"
( Remember: drabble posts now appear on livejournal and insanejournal and dreamwidth) Challenge #298: "Snape in his Classroom" This week's challenge is to look at Snape as a teacher of either Potions or Defense Against the Dark Arts. Your drabble can focus on teaching style, grading, lesson preparation, re-decorating (*g*), or anything else that relates to Snape and His Classroom. Note: anybody who posts their drabble(s) to all three snape100 communities this week will be entered with the folks from last week in a lottery, the winner of which will get to decide what special challenge we'll have for Challenge #300.(ETA: I've decided that making this available to the writers only was unfair, so anybody who leaves at least three comments on other community members' drabbles will be included in the lottery)Tags: challenges
August 30th, 2009 bethbethbeth @ 10:04 am: Challenge #297: "Snape and His Double"
( Remember: drabble posts now appear on livejournal and insanejournal and dreamwidth) Challenge #297: "Snape and His Double" Someone's using Polyjuice to look just like Snape. Or maybe a Replication Spell has gone awry. Or...what if Snape has a twin somewhere that almost nobody knows about? This week's challenge is to create a drabble that explores some idea of Snape and His Double! Note: anybody who posts their drabble(s) to all three snape100 communities this week or next week will be entered in a lottery, the winner of which will get to decide what special challenge we'll have for Challenge #300.Tags: challenges
August 23rd, 2009 bethbethbeth @ 08:26 am: Challenge #296: "Snape and...Muggle Stuff!"
( Remember: drabble posts now appear on livejournal and insanejournal and dreamwidth) Challenge #296: "Snape and...Muggle Stuff!" This week's challenge comes from a suggestion by fenm in The Snape100 Suggestion Box. To use fenm's words: "Snape's dad was a Muggle, and he lived near a Muggle family; it's possible he did certain Muggle-y things as a kid. Maybe he watched TV with Lily, or went to see movies to get out of the house, or had a favorite Muggle writer he read." In other words, feel free to write anything you want as long as your drabble focuses on Snape and...Muggle Stuff! Tags: challenges
August 16th, 2009 bethbethbeth @ 09:55 am: Challenge #295: "Snape and Mythology"
( Remember: drabble posts now appear on livejournal and insanejournal and dreamwidth) Challenge #295: "Snape and Mythology" This week's challenge focuses on the intersection of Severus Snape and Mythology. Did reading a particular myth influence Snape in some way? Do any myths have a part to play in the study of Potions or the Dark Arts? Can a given myth (e.g., the story of Hades and Persephone) be re-imagined featuring Snape? Give your creativity free rein as long as your drabble features Snape and Mythology. (Note: I'm guessing that the majority of you will be most familiar with Greek and Roman mythology, but if you'd prefer to branch out into other mythic systems, feel free!) Tags: challenges
August 9th, 2009 bethbethbeth @ 11:56 am: Challenge #294: "Snape and Games of Chance*
( Remember: drabble posts now appear on livejournal and insanejournal and dreamwidth) Challenge #294: "Snape and Games of Chance* This week's challenge is due to the fact that I somehow found myself in an Atlantic City casino this morning! However...you needn't write a drabble about Snape in a casino or playing poker or rolling dice. Feel free, if you'd like, to consider "games of chance" in a more metaphoric way...in fact, feel free to write any drabble that involves Severus Snape and gambling. Tags: challenges
August 2nd, 2009 bethbethbeth @ 09:47 am: Challenge #293: "Snape and Music*
( Remember: drabble posts now appear on livejournal and insanejournal and dreamwidth) Challenge #293: "Snape and Music* There's a longstanding belief in some circles that behind the scenes, Severus Snape is a master cellist or violinist, but what is Snape's relationship to music? Your challenge this week is to write a drabble that explores that very question. Does Snape play an instrument? Does he secretly enjoy classical Muggle music - or classic Punk Rock from his teenage years? Are there potions that brew better with Celestina Warbeck's greatest hits playing in the background? Write what you want...as long as your drabble focuses on Snape and Music. Tags: challenges
July 26th, 2009 bethbethbeth @ 12:21 pm: Challenge #292: "Snape and Cats*
( Remember: drabble posts now appear on livejournal and insanejournal and dreamwidth) Challenge #292: "Snape and Cats* In honor of the Cat's Birthday HP Drabblethon 5 currently taking place in mctabby-land, this week's challenge is all about cats. Has Snape ever had a pet cat? What's his relationship with McGonagall in her Animagus form? Are there any potions recipes that require cat's whiskers? Feel free to write whatever you want as long as it involves cats and Severus Snape. (note: check out the drabblethon when you get a chance, especially the many drabbles that feature our favorite potions master.) Tags: challenges
July 19th, 2009 bethbethbeth @ 07:13 am: Challenge #291: "The Solar System: Pluto* (and the rest)"
( Remember: drabble posts now appear on livejournal and insanejournal and dreamwidth) Challenge #291: "The Solar System: Pluto* (and the rest)" This week's challenge is the seventh (and last) in a series related to the planets of the solar system. You can use "Pluto" to refer to the planet itself, the Roman god of the Underworld, the Disney Dog, Plutonium (...or any of the other options Wikipedia offers for Pluto), as long as your drabble focuses in some way on Severus Snape. Note: Since this is the last challenge in this series, you needn't be limited to Pluto-related prompts only, but you should feel free to include anything you might find in our Solar System (the asteroid belt, planetary moons, the Tardis) which hasn't been covered in the challenges from previous weeks. * Despite its recent demotion, I will always consider Pluto to be a planet *g*Tags: challenges
