When Wade met Nathan (and Domino... kind of)
6 1/2 pages from New Mutants #98. When the New Mutants were transitioning to X-Force, and the world was first introduced to Deadpool. The following scans are painfully 90s.

Love at first sight, I tell you. Anyway, Wade is about to kill Nathan (WHAAAAT? Yes, it's true. Early Nathan was much less likely to ~magic~ his way out of things) when Canonball flies up behind Wade, trying to take him out with his blast field. Wade is Not Having It.

Bondage alert!

Fighting. More fighting. *skips a page*

BRUMMMM! Really, Fabs? Really?

Fighting. More fighting. Declarations of awesome. *skips another page*

Is it just me, or is the dialog getting worse with every page?

NAAAH!!

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

"Your powers are unpredictable, so I'll kill you first, OKAY!?"

Also, subtlety? Oh Wade, stop pretending you know what the word means.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

There's something strange about that page. Aside from the anatomy, I mean.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

You certainly did, Domino. I see now why there's always been so much tension between the two of you. (Actually this is Copycat, but we'll handwave that for the sake of lolz).

*skips another page* I mean honestly, it's not like there's a coherent narrative here I'm disrespecting.

Bondage alert!

WHY DOES DOMINO HAVE A BULGE IN HER CROTCH

WHY

WHY DOES SHE HAVE A BIGGER BULGE THAN DEADPOOL OR CABLE?

Those useless pouches everyone was wearing back in the 90s were never made to hold ANYTHING. Have you ever seen anyone take stuff out of those? I'm guessing she kept her keys where that buldge is..And what's with that hair?

Deadpool sure had alot of gizmos back then.

She has a "hard on" for Wade. We all do, she can just physically manifest it.

There's actually a plausible in-universe explanation. That's not Domino, it's a shapeshifter named Copycat.

I have a copy of it as well. The funny thing is that I don't know why. I have no recollection of buying this issue.

Does anyone read Wizard? It seems that this comic is right now the number one most sought-after comic right now, because it's the introduction of Deadpool. Never mind that Wade's character wouldn't be developed into the insane wisecracker we all know and love until much later. Nevermind that the comic sucks and the art is terrible. It was the first appearance of Deadpool, and therefore it must be had.

In my ideal world, comics are only sought after because they are genuinely good, with gripping stories and excellent art, not because of some vauge "collector's value".

As I said below: collectibles, no sense to be found there.

I consider this to be one of the shittiest comics I own. And yet, it's also the most valuable. Go figure.

Seriously. But that is graded, non-graded go for less (mostly $40 to 60) but that is nothing to sneeze at. I won't tell you how much I sold mine for, but it was a lot more than the $1 I spent in 1991. Sadly, Deadpool's 2nd and 3rd appearances (which are just as crappy sell for $2-5.

It's in quite good condition. These scans aren't from the issue. *ahem* So we'll see. I should also get around to hawking my Wolverine #1 as it actually is in near perfect condition.

Sadly, Deadpool's 2nd and 3rd appearances (which are just as crappy sell for $2-5.

Collectibles. The whole market is bizarre to me.

Aww...they even bandaged Wade up before mailing him back.

Also, in that panel. Nate is totally smiling at Wade, not Domino.

The third panel of the fourth scan isn't too shabby, as context being for the weak goes. The fourth scan as a whole can do. "Vibratory powers" + "fwoop fwoop" sound effects (maybe they'd exceeded their quota of fap) + head over the crotch.

Domino has more tumors than Wade, I think. It's the only way to explain all the odd bulges.

Besides Robbie's usual problems its interesting to see him recycle the same hand positions in these scans. Cable, Domino, and Deadpool all have their hands spread out in the same way at some point. And Domino's pose in her first panel is almost identical to Deadpool's pose in his first panel. Not to mention that she looks downright ugly in some of these.

Man, I remember checking out the comics in the library when I was growing up, and I struck to Archie back then, because the bins were full of X-Force comics that looks really ugly. Like, Betty and Veronica looked identical, but damn X-Force was really, really, ugly.

May I just say that I think Cannonball's outfit here looks ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS? I mean, yeah, it's supposed to evoke early flight suits; OK, I get that - but I doubt early flight suits had pointless dangly chin straps on their goggles that, were they ever actually utilized, would practically mummify the poor guy's jaw. Why not just dress him in slightly stylized pilot's leathers, Liefeld? I know you're a hack, but even you should be able to manage that.
Also, if this version of Domino existed in real life, she would have to go to a chiropractor regularly, and wear a back brace in between sessions. That is all.

His philosophy often seems to have been that if one of something was good lots of something was even better. Hence his fondness for lotsa pouches, characters with 60 teeth in their mouths, and extraneous straps.
