"A Matter of Trust"

This is from Amazing Spider-Man Family #4. It's written by J.M. DeMatteis and illustrated by Val Semeiks.

Aunt May shows Peter the Daily Bugle, which has a picture of Norman and Harry and the headline "Harry Osborn is alive!"

Later, after getting off the phone with Betty Peter mutters to himself, when Harry comes out from behind him and asks him if he was talking to himself.

Peter has another "Gotcha" flashback.

Isn't this a retcon of a retcon? I remember someone posted some panels of a recent Molten Man story where Harry kinda sorta explains everything to Peter.

But then again, who really cares for the stories that came after OMD? ... well, just the ones involving just Peter. The stories of everyone else seem good. But still, everything in Spidey's world is like the tides: things come, things come out, some of the old things come back with some new things too, and so on.

I think this story came first.

And since Harry doesn't say how he came back in this issue, I don't see how it contradicts that story.

Hee, I love Harry. Especially the Harry & Peter bromance. He's so gay for him.

I find the timing of Harry's return and the marriage breakup to be telling.

Spiderman vs Green Goblin 1v1 streetball?

What about Spidey vs Doc Ock or something? Marvel should totally do a sports version (the marvel adventures of the Avengers vs Galactus in baseball is too good) instead of continuing with the whole apes thing.

Pretty cool. In some corner of the multiverse, it happened just like this.

This was by DeMatteis, who also wrote Harry's death. It's shocking considering that DeMatteis hasn't been reading current comics, but it doesn't violate BND continuity. So there's every reason to believe this is canon.

Why the hell can't ASM be like this?

It hurts my head trying to make sense of this (retcons augh) but I do like Peter's "Not again!" freakout there.

This is what I miss a lot in the current Marvel Writer Wanking Fest.

Just, uh, when does this take place? Before or after 'One More Day'? 'Cause as I understood it, one of the first things that Pete discovers after Mephisto does his thing is that holy crap, Harry is ALIVE again! So if this happens before that - and judging by the style and quality of artwork, it probably wouldn't be much before that - that would make it somewhat redundant, yes?

Actually, Marvel has stated that several months took place between the scene of him waking up after the deal with Mephisto.

Well, but isn't there a scene just after he's woken up where he goes to a party or something and there, among other people, is Harry, fit as a fiddle, and nobody is making any comment about it? I seem to recall reading such a scene.

Yes, and that scene takes place after this story.

"There was a gap between the end of 'One More Day' and 'Brand New Day.'"

I don't get how that makes things work. Peter waking up in a different world is simple in a woo-woo-de-debbil's-curse-It's a Wonderful Life-esque sort of way - I mean, this is Mephisto we're talking about here; it's completely in character and appropriate for him to just turn things upsy-daisy all at once. But now I'm confused. Does this mean that Peter was essentially running on autopilot for a few months, with his pre-OMD mind in hibernation, as it were, until one day he woke up and Yow! There's all these changes, booga booga! 'Cause it seemed to me - and I've only read the scene once, so I could be wrong, but still - that Peter was a bit disoriented upon waking up and seeing all these changes. And if that's NOT the case, and time just marched along normally, then what happened to Mary Jane? Did she just go 'well, we've made a bargain, so I'm moving to Cincinnati?' And why the disorientation? I'm confused.

Oh, you're trying to make sense of OMD continuity.

That's just ADORABLE.

Sheesh, pat me on the head, why dontcha? I am trying to make SENSE of it because it CONFUSES me - a very normal human reaction, I'd say. There's no need to be rude.

Sorry, that was meant to be amused, not so much snarky. Frankly, I think you're engaged in a quixotic task, that's all. If you CAN make sense of it all, you're a better person than I. I just gave up.
