Who DOES Peter support politically?
In the latest issue of Amazing, Spider-Man and Wolverine share a joke about Bush being like Norman Osborn. But it seems it's not just the GOP's that Parker's taken potshots at, as this scene from Spectacular Spider-Man #246 shows...

I don't think it has to do with parties, more to do with the fact both of those guys are dicks; Bush is a greedy corrupt imbecile, and Gore is an arrogant dull as dirt dork.

Yeah, I think they pretty much take a generic "those clowns in Washington" approach to this kind of thing...

I don't think it's quite the same thing. Peter seems like a guy who would take his shots where he found them, so this, going "ha ha, Al Gore is boring," I can buy. "Hey, Norman Osborn, the man who dumped my girlfriend off a bridge, reminds me of an ex-president" seems a bit much coming from a guy who's usually apolitical. Maybe if he were Green Arrow...

Too right. Norm should sue for libel!

Seriously, when the ex-president in question is best known for A: starting a war and B: torturing a lot of people, mere murder looks kind of tame.

Peter's a New Yorker. We tend to have Democrats... except, er, when we get pissed at them and have Republicans, you know, like Rudy. And then again, there's Bloomberg who kinda makes the parties chase him.

Basically, we bitch at anything that moves.

Yeah, Pete's a working class New Yawk schoolteacher. That says Democrat to me (though I am biased).

'Course, there's nothing stopping us Democrats from pointing and laughing at other Democrats. I'm personally fond of Vice President Joe "Gaffe Machine" Biden for that pastime. Come to think of it, Democratic veeps tend to be pretty LOLworthy.

Now, that said, if Steve Ditko were still working on Spidey, he'd be a Libertarian.

Oh, he probably is, technically, a Democrat. But he probably also voted for Rudy after Dinkins' horrible run.

But mostly, he has a inherent right to bitch about _every single politician_ in the world. It's part of being a New Yawker. If it's a stuffed shirt, prod it.

I'd just like to point out here that "With great power comes great responsibility..." can easily be phrased as "From each according to his ability..."

Case in-point: In Spider-man Noir, Aunt May is a commie agitator.

AND IT IS AWESOME.

And it is awesome, indeed. Socialist I _think_ might be more accurate for the time period, though. You can see the same character type in that Harry Turtledove Great War series. The jewish girl from New York?

Either way, it is also a New York approach to politics, just a slightly different time period.

The one true constant is that the New York way is stubborn, annoying, and... aw, hell. Lemme put it this way. JJJ as Mayor still wouldn't be a patch on _some_ of the antics we've had. Our first governor dressed in women's clothing and wandered through people's houses taking their stuff. In broad daylight.

May Parker, a Red? I MUST SEE THIS.

Is Noir a flashback with rebellious!young!May, or a Spider-man Elseworld-style May?

The whole Noir line is an out-of-continuity "reimagining" of superheroes.

I think Peter's an equal opportunity snarker. It's a little bit of his in-costume personality showing up out of costume.

I think this just means that Peter doesn't like politics. Equal opportunity stuffed-shirt bashing, y'know? Though there's a big difference between calling a politician boring and comparing him to the Green Goblin.
