Yet another jab to the fans of the Spider-Marriage from the "Brain Trust"...
...only this time it's from Hercules' "Assault on New Olympus" story.

This was written by Fred Van Lente, who I hopefully don't have to introduce given his history here.

Honestly. On one hand, the attitude is just, "Get over it!" and the on the other hand they like throwing salt on the wound with these little jabs to the fans.

Yeah, but the sheer frequency of times they made marriage jokes specifically relating to Spider-man makes this a narm.

I forgot o add:

There is also the fact that they seem to be doing it all just to spite and make the fans of the marriage angry, it's fine if it's a one time thing but to do it practically every time something relating to marriage, relationships, etc is brought up, it just gets annoying and most of their 'jokes' aren't funny either.

Anyway, I feel this is more of Box's territory since I'm unable to properly express my hate due to my inherent pacifism .

It isn't a joke about how he hates redheads now. It was him commenting on how Aunt May doesn't like Mary Jane anymore after the breakup.

I'm actually commenting to ALL the marriage/MJ jokes they ever made so it doesn't matter who made it.

Or they're doing this as a wink to those who are actually happy that Spidey is no more married to the red head. I smile every time I read those jokes.

Well, I have no reason to convince you otherwise, just smile away but I still don't like them.

Makes it a.... what?

I read this scan as extremely straightforward dramatic irony, personally.

Your Mileage May Vary but IMO this is narm.

I read that comment asking for clarification as asking what "narm" meant. I sort of thought that was a confusing use of the acronym Not Another Re-Make? ...Which took me typing it out to realize that's not even the right letters.

In any case, yeah, I'm still bothered by Brand New Day (Wait, I think I mean One More Day-- ugh this is getting progressively more tedious to correct myself) but in this particular case I think it does have a story reason. (Aunt May is psycho and blaming MJ for whatever happened.) It only really bothers me when there's a jab that is totally outside the realm of characterization like the writer and/or artist is going out of their way to tease fans of the old status rather than to tease the story itself. (Like how Marvel Adventures used to pointedly sometime make jokes about how the heroes would NEVER send Hulk into space one-way nor get into civil war infighting)

Dammit, now I had to look it up.

..

I believe it is intended to mean "extreme cool by grossness".

According to TvTropes:

A Narm is a moment that is supposed to be serious, but due to either over-sappiness, poor execution, excessive Melodrama, or the sheer absurdity of the situation, the drama is lost. The moment is often found funny by fans. It can be extremely subjective.
