Game 158
Who: Anyone at all
Where:  The Arena
When: Day 264, late morning
What:  A game!

[The Twins are out today in the Arena's center, lovely stone faces bright with amusement, the round table just before the statue draped with an odd cloth of shimmering grey. On it stand clean, empty glasses and pitchers of juice- cranberry, pomegranate, blueberry, and several that are unidentifiable. Clean bowls are here as well, and a massive platter with a serving spoon and what seems to be cucumbers and tomatoes marinated in some sort of tangy dressing. Beside it, on a separate platter, stand segments of coconut sliced into pieces as regular as that of a pie, and whole, fresh figs. Spiraling out from the central table like spokes on a wheel are smaller tables, also circular, draped in each partnerteam set's colors. These are set with ornate, high-backed chairs, each sporting a cushion upon its seat.]

A pleasant morning to you, little blanks. I have another game for you, and my sister has been gracious enough to help me arrange it. Do make yourselves comfortable, hm~? We'll be getting started any minute now.

Well? Have you completed your masterpieces? Only one display per group, if you please.

[OOC: Reply here with the final result and what was used to make it. Please mark the subject line with your partnerteam name so it can be found easily.]

Hydracula
[info]righthandsmoke
2011-08-20 02:31 am UTC (link)
[Hydra turns in a truly magnificent masterpiece. There is a great hydra standing taller than Scowl (as long as it's on the table) that's been built out of a wireframe with clay carefully layered over it. The team has even painstakingly carved in scales—up until they realized they were going to run out of time and turned attention to the more important details like shaping fangs and eyes from the clay for each of the seven heads and proper claws and toes for its feet. The heads are carefully arranged for balance to keep the thing from toppling over, and several of them had googly eyes with pipecleaner spider legs on them stuck in their mouths . . . The eyes appear to have been stabbed before placement to add to the impression that the hydra is actually eating them.

The hydra is standing protectively before a brick castle where a small fox army lies in wait. And in feasting. The foxes have been shaped from pipecleaners (and a few of them look less than perfect . . .) and have been gifted with tiny clay foodstuffs to gorge themselves on. Little cakes and steaks painstakingly shaped and set on tiny clay plates; just look at how cut they are!!

Finally, there is a raptor charging the castle!! Oh no!! Two of the hydra's heads are posed as though lunging down at it, jaws agape. There is also a very tiny fox racing along the ground at the raptor, complete with a tiny wire dagger shoved in its mouth. It all looks very impressive!!

And then Boomer sets the hydra on fire for effect. Most of Hydra seems to approve of this.

Enjoy your performance art, fellow blanks.]

Well, the piece certainly tells of a thrilling battle, though it could, perhaps, use more raptors and eyespiders to make it somewhat more exciting. As it is, I am torn between my own preference to favor those against which the long odds have been placed and the obvious intent of the artist to have us favor those representations of their teams.

The hydra is quite a display of skill, given the limited time and materials. The foxes less so, as if they were almost an afterthought. I would rather more attention paid to the foxes than their feast, to add the impact.

Overall, I believe this is a seven of ten.

[Pygnapus]
[info]aroseagain
2011-08-20 02:36 am UTC (link)
[Sitting in a base of woven flowers, both real and fake, there are two twin dolls posed, back to back.

With wire and clay for limbs (fully pose-able and flexible!), and cloth wraps for dresses, they seem at least to be modeled roughly after the Judges hosting the game. Wings made of wire, and their span filled with feathers and construction paper, stretch out behind both.

The faces are made of clay, with googly eyes staring down and a benevolent pasta smile afixed to both.

The wire arms are posed down, and it seems like one of the twins are offering little clay painted fruits, both normal and... odd looking, but with far too much attention to detail.

The other is handing out little painted weapons. Detailed, fully functional and PLENTIFUL in nature.

the title of this piece is the Subtle Hint on a Moonlit Bay]

Beardog
[info]madheroking
2011-08-20 02:37 am UTC (link)
*The base of beardog's submission is a simple castle, made from stacking several of the bricks and adding features with clay, then painting on any details. But the important part, and the part that probably will be first to catch the viewer's eye, is not the castle, but the large DRAGON perched upon it. Made out of clay (for the heavier base parts) and a wire frame (for the finer bits) covered with blue fabric, it was then painted- mostly white and gold, but with splashes of various other colors wherever they could feasibly be worked in- and covered with a light moderate coat of glitter. For the scales, you know. The wings are feathers glued on to the wire and fabric frame, again primarily white, but with other colors underneath lining the bottom edges. A few feathers also adorn the head in a sort of crest, and the face bears a very fierce expression painted on it.*

DelPavo
[info]letdownmyhair
2011-08-20 02:37 am UTC (link)
Using the clay, we have made several adorable little dolls with glass eyes and painted faces and yarn hair and dresses sewn on. Some of them have flowers in their hair. The wires have been used for support and to give them moving limbs. The wooden blocks have been carved into furniture, simple little chairs and tables and a kitchen set, plus some beds and a bookcase. They have also been painted very prettily. The cardboard, bricks and construction paper have been used to create a kind of open mini dollhouse. There are four rooms, a kitchen, a dining room, a front room and a bedroom. Glitter has been used tastefully to make things glimmer and shine all pretty. Feathers and popsicle sticks have been used to decorate the furniture and the background and make everything beautiful. It is all very well made and pretty and shiny.

BUNNYCORN
[info]lawfulreception
2011-08-20 02:37 am UTC (link)
[The bunnycorn girls made a choker, the central pendant hanging down made with elaborate wire scroll work, with a glass eye centerpeice. Two more eyes, surrounded by small clay bead decorations, in matching colors off set the main center piece. It's really quite pretty and elaborate, provided you don't mind creepy staring glass eyes]

[The bunnycorn boys simply glued wires and feathers and other shit on Badger. He is sitting by the display, surrounded by dozens of colorful pipe cleaner men, courtesy of Kurow. They are wearing tiny ties.]

[The bunnycorn girls also decide this is a great time for dress up, and have Badger wearing the choker as well.]

[Lyvus]
[info]spiltbloodlines
2011-08-20 02:42 am UTC (link)
[Lyvus' entry is a pair of masks. Both of the masks are clearly shaped to fit over the upper half of a person's face, but both are also clearly oversized for the average blank.

One mask is made of dark purple cloth stretched over wire, with wire used to shape a large curving beak over where it's wearer's nose would be. The outer edges of the mask have been lined with Corvus-colored feathers. The other mask is similarly made with grey cloth stretched over wire; however, in this case the wire has been shaped so the top edge of the mask comes to two points on the sides, suggesting the ears of an alert feline. Stitched into the lower edge of the mask are two fangs made of sculpted and painted clay.

Both masks have been painted with patterns suggesting feathers and fur respectively, and have been further embellished and trimmed with all manner of materials -- clay beads shaped to line the edges, pipe cleaners twisted into curling shapes for trim, even some dried pasta broken to pieces, painted, and glued into place as a bit of interesting texture.

In addition to the masks, a simple stand made of stacked blocks of wood and bricks has been made to display them -- the crow mask is set on a stand draped in grey canvas, and the lynx mask set on a stand draped in purple.]

[Monsterhunter]
[info]mercykills

[The table has been swept clean and a large mural takes pride of place, stretching to the edges of the space. The scene painted there is that of a ballroom dance, with the Twins in the centre.

The tiny dancing couples are made of differing materials; stemless flowers turned upside down for the ladies' dresses, pipecleaners twisted into shape for the men. Popsicle stick tables dot the scene, with small clay food items piled on top. Long, coloured sweeps of paint loop through the people and tables, creating an impression of movement.

For the Judges, clay was used to create them in relief, one facing left and the other right. They have been painted brightly as well, with glitter added here and there to draw attention to their status. Some feathers have been added as headdresses, leaving no doubt as to who is the belle of the ball. So to speak.]

Lizardking
[info]sillyrabitricks
2011-08-20 02:57 am UTC (link)
[Blue construction paper cutouts in the shapes of dolphins are glued to blue pipecleaners to make them look as if they are LEAPING MAJESTICALLY out of water. Purple contruction paper cutouts of peakcocks have carefully arranged tissue paper for tail feathers. ...they are both liberally sprinkled with glitter.

A glob of green clay have several green pipecleaner necks with construction paper green angry faces attached to them. A fox made of one broken in half and orange painted popsicle stick sits next to it--with wire orange legs and ears and an orange tissue paper tail.

There are also black pipecleaners shaped in snakey shapes.

Wires covered with green construction paper in the vague outline of...lizards? The paper is marked with scales, eyes, a mouth. And little purple crowns with dobs of colored paint for jeweled are attached to each lizard.

More wire makes the structure of crows, though they are also covered in construction paper--purple! Purple popsicle sticks suffice for wings. Again more wire bodies for Lynx, using pipe cleaners for some of the more pronounced fur on the face, ears, and tail before drawing little faces on the animals. Then using wire to make the crow fly above and behind the Lynxes.

After that is the bears and dogs, the biggest different between the two being the size and the dogs have longer tails and slightly elevated heads, each with construction paper of the corresponding color. Pipe cleaners were used for the tails again as well as the ears. Finally making little faces on each figure with a marker.

Pygnus -- two swans with the feathers glued down for their wings, each holding a drawn compass in its beak (the compass is probably the most detailed and skilled part) and the Apus bird, also with feathers, with the beaks made from broken and cut popsicle sticks.

And the unicorn is... multicoloured! Because why not. Done by cutting out a basic silhouette of a horse -- and discarding that -- and then gluing tissue paper to the back side of the remaining border for a sort of stained glass effect. The hooves are crushed dried pasta and the horn is popsicle sticks and glitter.

Monsterhunter has a simple but neat little dude in yellow paper, with a great teal sea serpent (made from pipe cleaners!) woven all around it. They are both very cheerful and pleasant!

And the bunnies are mostly drawn, with a white pipe cleaner curled up for fuzzy tails. They're hanging out at the unicorn's feet, along with some of the fake flowers.

THEY ALL FROLIC AROUND AND ON A GREEN LUMP OF CLAY COVERED IN GREEN FRAYED TISSUE PAPER AND FLOWERS.]
