What do we have to work with?

This cabbage, these spices, and the slugs. Plus, whatever else we can spare.

We can probably give up some fish, grind some of the ration if we want flour or not if we don't. Maybe some onion and some potatoes. I don't want to give up any of the hard to cultivate stuff, though.

We could also gather some mushrooms, and there are the lake lizards... for the dessert we still have watermelon slices, but I really don't know how to include the... er... secret ingredient there.

We could do a sauce of berries over the melons, shaped like leaves, with a molded berry slug for desert.

Maybe we can use the slugs as garnishes.

If they were chopped up fine enough you probably couldn't tell what they were.

Yeah...we could also get some of the honeybees and do something candied, maybe?

That would work for the dessert, we could put it with some berries and a few slices of watermelon.

If we gathered mushrooms we could use them for the appetizer. They would be good if we breaded and fried them.

As for the slugs... I guess we could stuff the mushrooms with them.

Or we could puree them and serve them on the side. They'd certainly add...something to the mushrooms.

A puree sounds good, we could mix in some onion and maybe bamboo shoots.

That could be our first course. Now we just need a good main course.

We could sautee them. The slugs themselves are a little light, though...

If we were careful with some of the lake lizards, we could slice the meat thin and salt and fry it to wrap the slugs with.

Hmmm...we'd need some fresh lizards for that. But I think if we used some of the bitter greens we have back at the dorms with the potatoes for the side, we could make it work.

I'm hoping that it turns out a little like prosciutto. We could ask Claude to catch some for us.

And maybe some kind of sauce to pour over it?

We'll have some of the juice left over from cooking the lizard and the slug, presumably. It's a start of somethign.

Alright. Let's try it.

I'm not quite sure I'm that desperate, but I guess we could catch them in the garden instead of tossing them.

[separating out some of the prepped slugs for the last two dishes: large, meaty ones for the main dish and tiny ones for the desert.]

Well, that's one way of doing it. Me, I just don't mind cooking if I ignore what I'm cooking this time.

[picking out some of the potatoes and his own knife as well as the onions and the garlic, beginning to dice them very finely together after scrubbing them off.]
