When: A couple days before Christmas
Warnings/Rating: Low/None
Being that it was the last full day the shop was open before Christmas, it was kind of insane. It was as if the broken windows had kept everyone away earlier in the month, and now, with new ones in place, they were back with a vengeance. Or it could've just been last-minute shopping. Alex was just glad he wasn't closing. He'd have to open on Christmas Eve, and he'd just finished a ten-hour shift, but he was feeling oddly energized as he hoofed it through the cold and the wind to Aud's. He was excited about the prospect of putting together a real Christmas dinner for Mal and Shiloh. Like, they weren't family, obviously, but whatever, like, something close. Like making a home.
He got to Audrey's house and checked the address against what he'd been given. It was nice. Very nice. Too nice, for a kid in sort of ragged, thrift store outfit of a striped green hoodie, old jeans, and beat-up Vans. He really should've done some Christmas shopping for himself and invested in gloves and a coat, but hey, he was wearing like three layers. He rapped on the door with cold-reddened hands before shoving them deep into his pockets, slouching away from the door with his hood covering his hair and years. He was pulling sixty hour weeks at the shop, so yes, he did look as tired as he felt. Still, it had all been worth it, he thought, to be able to go out and get things for the people he cared about. Even if none of them were big, life-changing stuff, it had felt so good to lug it all out to the post office and let those people know he was thinking about them and that he cared.
And now, with some help, he could build on that and actually make an honest-to-god meal for his housemates. Like, it was just cool to him, to be able to give something back.
