QAF Fandom InsaneJournal News -- 6/08/08
Hello, everyone! I'm thinking that I should focus on getting this newsletter out on Fridays so that you can use the weekend to catch up on fandom. So from now on, barring interference from that irritating thing known as "real life," expect this to hit your flists Friday nights from now on.

Which means this one is long and Friday's will probably be a bit short.

The big news this week is the 122-201-202 marathon, and the vid-off. I've got links to all the special events, as well as the usual icons, fan fiction news, and other updates, all after the cut!

As always, please comment if you have news or if I missed something!

I'm back with the fully-featured real-thing IJ QAF fandom newsletter! Yay!

Let's start with this week's big event, the qaf_marathons 122-202-202 slumber party.

In order to prevent PTSD from ravaging the fandom, the ongoing S1 marathon will be structured to allow for the healing to begin immediately. Sit up late with your fangirl friends, holding hands, eating popcorn, and sobbing on each other's shoulders. We're there for you, yo! Details here!

There's lots more news under the cut, and as always, please comment if you have news or if I missed something!

Hello! I'm going to do one more newsletter-lite, simply because it's a holiday weekend and I'm still a bit crispy around the edges, and have a work deadline tomorrow. It won't be quite as lite as last week's, however.

Big news: [info]ohfreckle 's QAF LOVE MEME 2008! Check it out and spread the love here.

More news: The 41 fics inspired by the 24 banners of the "Challenge in Two Parts" weren't enough... we want more! Challenge Amnesty starts now.... and ends June 13! So if you wanted to write, or didn't finish your fic in time, it's not too late! Info here.

Don't miss the marathon of 120 tonight... King of Babylon! Episode icons are here, and the discussion starts in [info]qaf_marathons at 10 PM Eastern Time/7 PM Pacific Time, hosted by [info]not_yet_defined !

Other fandom happenings include: )

That's it for this week, see you next week with a full newsletter!

QAF Fandom InsaneJournal News -- 5/17/08
Hi everyone!

Since I spent 5 and a half hours posting the fics and banners in the "Challenge in Two Parts" Friday night/Saturday morning, I decided to give myself a break on the newsletter this weekend. So I'll just encourage everyone to go over to qaf_challenges and read the FORTY-ONE stories inspired by TWENTY-FOUR banners, all created by the wonderful writers and authors of our fandom. Thank you to everyone who participated! Check it out here:

And don't forget Monday night at 10 PM Eastern time is the marathon viewing of episode 119! Jack Kinney dies, Brian goes bowling; Justin helps Mel and Linds move the mattress (I have suppressed the other thing); Emmett tells Blake if he breaks Ted's heart, Emmett will break his face.

I'll have a regular newsletter next week! In the meantime, enjoy the challenge fics and artwork! And don't forget... today is the last day to vote in the contest at iconics!

See you next week,

A little late this week, because InsaneJournal was moving to a new server system and access was sporadic on Sunday and Monday, especially to icons. For that reason, the marathon was suspended and will be tonight, Tuesday -- so you haven't missed it!

I've also slightly changed how I'm going to cover the series marathons; I was always a week behind, because they start on Monday. From now on I'm going to feature the coming marathon, with a link to the previous one. I hope that works a bit better.

As always, please comment if you have news or if I missed something!

I'm still a bit sick, but after doing four million test mailings on a back-up journal and feed, I've isolated the problem with this newsletter's display on LiveJournal: It's just too big. I considered making it smaller, but you know, I don't want to start leaving stuff out, and even stripping it of all but essential code, it was still too big. So clearly, the fandom is just too big for RSS, yo. We broke the internets! Go us!

I came up with a simple plan to fix this problem. I'm posting the actual newsletter on a new journal, and each week when I update I'll post a link cleverly disguised as a cut, and you can click over and see it in the identical faux-journal.

What do you have to do? Nothing. That is the beauty of this whole solution. You just do what you've been doing, minus the part where you stare at the hot mess of code that the feed kept spewing at you and think, "OMG I MUST KILL XIE."

Thanks to everyone for hanging in there while I figured this out -- I'm kind of amazed not one person unsubbed from the feed. Thanks for giving me time to work on it! And now, without any more blah blah blah from me...

I'm pretty sure I've figured out why the feed for this newsletter has been misbehaving, but there's no real way to know other than to try again. Also, I have the most terrible flu ever, so this issue will be a bit shorter than usual. My apologies!

Feed check
I noticed that the last issue of Queer as News did not get picked up on the LiveJournal feed... not sure why. You can find it here:

Queer as News on InsaneJournal, March 28, 2008

I'll check into this before the next issue comes out!

Feed for queer as news
Although I edited the LJ feed for Queer as News to give just a one line summary, and it did that last time, this time, for some reason, it spewed the entire post, with messed up code, onto my LJ flist, and presumably yours.

I'm really sorry about that, and will from now on re-edit it each time I send it, to make sure it's still in "summary" mode.

I'm guessing this happened because we put in the new layout, but I don't really know. Again, my sincere apology to everyone watching from LJ. It won't happen again.
