WELCOME TO THE IJ QAF FRIENDING PARTY
Whether you're a lurker, a little shy or a big mouth like me, we're all here for the same reason: WE LOVE QUEER AS FOLK
and we want to celebrate our love! One of the loudest messages from QaF is about how you can pick your family and that's how I like to think of all of us.
we are family rainbow

Now we just all need to be introduced and that's what this party is for: meeting new woody's friends and 511 family

How does a friending party work? Comment here and let people know that you're inviting others to add you to their flists.
In your comment, please introduce yourself a bit. (see the comments for my intro *hee hee*).

If you don't know what to say, just tell us how you found QaF or fandom or both. What's your fave fic or who makes the best icons? Maybe mention where you live (your timezone). Or, it can be just as simple as commenting with a smile :D.

If you're too shy to comment, please know that ANYONE who comments here is willing to have you add them as a friend. Also, feel free to ask people questions or jump into conversations and know that everyone is accepted and loved, even if English isn't your first language. After all, this is all about TEHLOVE thriving!

In keeping with our Family theme and to add a little music to the party: AFFIRMATION a vid by f1renze

Wow, I'm late to the party. Hope nobody minds? Figured it'd be nice to introduce myself here, since I'm relatively new.

My name is Denise and I'm 22 years old. I'm from the Netherlands, so Dutch is my first language. I grew up with two very openminded parents. My father got me my first computer and now I can't do without.

I've been in multiple fandoms for about six years, I think. At first I was more into anime (even back then I occasionally read yaoi, which is slash), but that died down fairly quickly. Movies and actors came along, which eventually led me to TV shows. I found that making graphics and (sometimes) writing fic was something I could do. Sometimes even do well, since people seemed to like it.

I was actually on TV.com looking at an episode guide for House when I saw an icon with two guys kissing, in big bold lettering proclaiming 'Brian and Justin/QAF'. I typed in QAF and read the introduction and a few of the plot outlines for the first episodes, which got my interest.

QAF has never aired in the Netherlands (as far as I know) so I ended up downloading every episode (I was relieved to know the show had already ended and I could watch everything in one go). That was January 2006, I think. I watched all the episodes during the next few weeks. Since I already knew about fandom, I got online and started looking. It turned out that most roads led to LJ, so I joined and lurked until I found IJ.

So here I am. Nice to meet you!

Hi there,

I come from lotR and lotrips land. i still love lord of the rings and the boys in the fellowship, but as my fandom dwindled i felt disappointed most days on el jay and decided to see what would happen if i took a two week hiatus, including not even thinking about elijah wood and his many fake-person incarnations.

what happened was that i accidentally became utterly obssessed with queer as folk, or more accurately brian/justin, b/c to be honest i started fast forwarding other characters scenes once i got to S4 and S5, but that has as much to do with the fact that i viewed the entire complere series within the length of two weeks (a different two weeks, from the hiatus mentioned above). and i just. couldn't ever wait to see what happened with b/j, especially since i heard they might be getting married. whoo boy. still irked about the way that one turned out!

so, now i sit around watching qaf us on my computer, on my t.v., pretty much, endlessly, and tried, since march 08 to find fellow fen on livejournal, and then finally found that everyone was over hear, via a link my friend ([info]nannerss sent me.

i am a justin girl. but i love brian just as much, i just tend to obsess more over justin and get more mesmerized by him. but i am just as into brian/sex with whomever, as i am into justin/sexwithwhomever. and lately, i've been challenging myself to watch scenes from brian's pov and focus on his character in the scene more than justin's. it's a challenge, i totally do gravitate to justin's storyline and pov and pay closer attention to what the other characters might think of him, etc.

oh. and i looooove the little bits and soft edges we get to see of emmit and justin's friendship. sometimes i rewind to make sure i didn't miss an exchange of the eyes or a giggle or something. i love the way emmit relates to both brian and justin and as well as the way he relates to them as brian/justin. it's just more overtly a part of the story when emmits relating to brian/justin, brian, than when he's just relating to justin-- or maybe i just can't get enough of him, being concerned for and standing up for justin.

and i love that justin's character would really flawless, but for a few things that i find dee.luct.able., love that justin laughs as people to their faces: ted still being hard fromt the Viagra, michael saying brian's never been with him or anybody he's been with, michael getting annoyed with deb, michael...welll okay, he does it to michael a lot, but he also does it to other poeople sometimes (like when the "cript keeper" said he felt like he already knew everyone). i also love that he lies and exaggerates (like when he tells daph brian said he loved him when he shot his load YEAH RIGHT JUSTIN!, or when helping to decide gus's name turned into naming him, or drawing brian's dick bigger than it is, yeah i said it, the list goes on. and we all know what a princess he can be. oh and i love how he goads ted. he often directs it toward ted when he's bragging about brian's prowess or how often they do it, etc.

um. oh yes! i am AMAZED at how friendly and welcoming everybody is here. seriously. i love the games and things just like this comm. brilliant and lovely. in lotrips fandom i was always trying to get everyone to play games and stuff and i am like a kid who discovered chocolate over here, it's like the wonka factory for porn.

i am happy to be here and meet y'all.

oh. long beach, ca.

have a dog (mini-schnauzer mix) that i mention quite a bit. i'll use the icon that has both of us innit.

and my name is cindi :d

Hello!
[info]bellaaurora
2008-07-29 02:39 am UTC (link)
Hi!

I saw this post and wanted to introduce myself and give you a bit of my history with QAF (that seems to be the modi operandi for this post, correct?).

I am quite new to Queer as Folk, but not to fandom. I found fanfic via my 13 year old self's obsession with Roswell (*cringe*) and from then on pretty much read from whatever fandom I was interested in at the time. This has included Buffy, Harry Potter, and a brief obsession with Supernatural that I went through last summer.

I first found QAF through the British version as a result of my best friend's giant girl hard-on for Charlie Hunnam. I got both of the entire series from a friend (one of the benefits of going to a college where at least 50% of the population is some variation on queer) sometime this March and fell in love with the Brit version immediately.

I ran out of BBC Queer as Folk far too fast; so, I decided to watch the American version.

Which I promptly hated.

Having watched the British version and totally shipped Vince/Stuart (aka Michael/Brian), I was totally squicked by the idea of Nathan/Stuart (Justin/Brian) being the intended ship. Plus Charlie Hunnam totally beats 101 Justin in my book.

But I was bored, living through winter at a women's college without any eye candy at all, and sick of the shit on TV, so I kept watching.

And fell madly in love.

I love the American portrayal of Mel and Linds (who were pretty minimized in the British series), Brian's relationship with Linds, the character of Debbie, and of course, eventually, Brian and Justin.

Well, since that fateful day where I watched QAF for the first time, I have seen the entire series 2 times through (once by myself and once with my other best friend - the original friend who sparked my interest in QAF couldn't watch her beloved Charlie be not straight and, far worse, not a Green Street Hooligan). I'm about 3/4 of the way through run through number 3, though I've seen certain episodes far more times than that.

Anyways, so now I'm hooked and enjoying the plethora of wonderful fics out there. I'm even writing a bit myself.

So that's me in a nutshell.

It's a pleasure to meet all of you.

Hi everyone! I am brand new to IJ but have been lurking in the QAF Fandom since the hiatus between season 3 and 4 I believe. I was xokadieox over there. Please feel free to friend! I am going to try to be a little more active!

Hi All --

It's so nice to know you're all out here and I'm not alone in my QAF obsession! I feel like such a latecomer to all this -- I just found QAF this summer and have been marathon-watching the entire series ever since. I quickly became absolutely engaged with this show, and with the Brian-Justin relationship in particular. I'm still trying to figure out what, exactly, has pulled me in to this extent -- it's really unprecedented and was initially kind of worrying, but now I see it's affected so many others the same way, I'm feeling much less fretful about it :-)

I made my first QAF-related post in my journal today, starting to describe how I came to the series. I'm hoping I can use my journal to continue to sort out my thoughts and feelings about the show, its characters and situations -- and why they've affected me so deeply.

After watching the series finale, I felt very unsettled, to say the least, and sought some sort of closure in fanfiction. I've been taking refuge in [info]xie_xie_xie's "Only Time" universe, and in several recs from [info]qaf_retread. I've also been reading posts from fans who've been around a whole lot longer than I have, and who have already done a lot of the work of processing their own experiences with the show. Reading their insights and various takes on things has been really helpful -- comforting even! Watching all the episodes in one go years after the series ended has its advantages -- but one big disadvantage is that I've been watching it alone. And I find that I really want to talk about it!

I'd love to friend and be friended by other fans.

chinese fangirl here
[info]cryforwhat
2008-09-15 10:47 am UTC (link)
'k, i hope someone is still dropping in...

my name is alex, i come from china, maybe some of you already knew me

'cause before i translated your fics into chinese i'd asked for your permission.^_^

i came across qaf when i was a high school student, and it changed my life forever!

then i went to chinese qaf bbs, and i made many friends there

yes, there are thousands of qaf fans out there in the non-english speaking world!

most of them are str8 women, but i also make friends with some gay men

at first i started to read bjfics, in chinese, of course,

some of them are original chinese fic, but most of them are translation version of english bjfics

but then i found it could not satisfy me, so i started to read the scripts of qaf....

that was quite a hell of experience ! for my english is quite broken at that time, i had to use dictionary from time to time...

then one day, i found that english is not that difficult, instead, it is quite fascinating... and that was why i got into college easily...

some bjfics are so great that i can't help to share them with my friends

but since not all chinese know english well, so i started to translate english bjfics into chinese...

one day, my bff qqqq2046 introduced me to ij, and i was amazed by its variety!

up to now we have our own asylum and website for chinese bjfic fans(or should i add - grfic...)

the very first ij friend i made is xie_xie_xie

at first i thought maybe she is a chinese girl, since the word 'xie' happen to be my chinese family name

but she turned out to be one of the best bjfic writers i ever met, sometimes she rocked so well that i had to cry for her...

i write my own bjfics as well, but most of them are in chinese, and technically, they are drabbles...

since i am a ij beginner, sometimes i find it confused to use the icons and codes , i know i still have a long way to go...

so you are welcome to friend me, as long as you are a qaf fan or simply want to know more about china ,and i will friend you back!

Hi,
Perpetual latecomer here I'm afraid. I stumbled across a b/j fanvid on youtube about 6 months ago and was instantly smitten. I've spent those last 6 months tracking down fanfic sites and other QAF related comms. I have an lj account (delvalmom)and have only ever posted a short series in the BBM fandom but I am always looking for others who share my obsession. I just opened my ij account tonight hoping to find other talented writers like xie xie xie whose lj journal somehow ended up linking me to ij.

Anyway, I live on the East Coast of the USA (yes I'm a Jersey girl) and I have two sons (9 & 14) & a husband who does not understand my love of man/man love, but leaves me to my fangirl ways.

I would love to be friended and will happily friend back. Please help me feed my habit!!

Thank you,
Fran

Hi, I am new to Live Journal, the lovely qafmaniac sent me this link last night. I would love to be freinded. It would be nice to be able to talk to some like minded people about my love (well okay, obsession) with QAF and Brian and Justin. I am from the UK. I found out about QAF in an unusual way, I am a stargate fan and have been reading Stargate fan fiction for ages . I was on You Tube looking at SG Atlantis vids and found one about Shepard and Mckay called Thanks for the Memories, the author had mixed in Clips from SGA with QAF and the clips of QAF caught my interest, I went hunting around You Tube and found more vids. I then watched the first few episodes on You Tube and now own all the seasons on DVD. I have watched them all once and am now just starting season 3 for the second time. I avidly read QAF fiction daily, mainly on Midnight Whispers and the Brian and Justin Community. I think its wonderful that these communities exist so long after the show ended and everyone still loves the show. Thanks for now Josie

Hi to everyone. I got this link from qafmaniac and I thought I tell you a little about me.
I found Qaf two years ago by 'accident', switching TV channels late nite on German TV and then I forget about it. A few months later I stumbeld in the chairsex scene, unbelievible, but true. I thought WTF
And then the usual search began. Youtube-hot vids from qafmaniac and others, fanfiction( I love the really, really hot fics, if you know what I mean; okay let's name it: PORN),icons,pics.....every free minute goes around Qaf, Gale, Randy. Then I found LJ and IJ and many other Qaf related 'things'.
I bought the Dvd's, even the complete box from the US, and watched them over and over again. My kids -17,15 and 15- think I'm nuts ( oh not this Porn again), but who cares.

If someone like to friend me, just go for it - i'll friend you back.

BTW: I live in the south-west of Germany as a single mom with three teenage boys.

god, i dunno if I;m even doing this right.

I discovered QAF when I was about 13, so in....2000, 2001? But i didn't keep on top of it until about 2004, and I have never looked back. I love everything about it, I think about it more than is healthy, probably more than people think about their loved ones, and Brian Kinney is the most beautiful man in the world.

Id love to chat to people on here, I feel i know a lot through the stories I read, and you can never have too many people to talk to about QAF. I have two friends who love it too, and one who loves the fics as much as me which helps with the GUILT of feeling like it's just me ha ha!

Would love to chat to more of you, feel free to message! I;m from the UK, just though I'd throw that in :)

xxxxx

Hi hi! Here for the trivia challenge, but if there's anyone who checks this and didn't make it over to this years Friend Fest, I'm a "Class of '08" who is addicted to any and everything QaF: reading tons of fic, icon-making from time to time, and generally sharing QaF with anyone who'll care to share it with me :)
So if you're obsessed with QaF like I am, feel free to friend me, I'll gladly friend you back.
:)

Hey all *waves*

I'm new to QAF - I discovered last Friday after reading some gloriously sloppily romantic and hot fiction between two male chars and it got my interest..I ordered season 1 straight away! I went home and typed 'brian and justin QAF' into youtube et viola!

Went to bed at 3am and somewhere in season 2.. some kind soul had uploaded only the B/J story line.. When that finished sometime on Monday (at the end of season 3) I quickly devoured my new season 1-4 DVD collection.. I'm still going strong (on 306 at the moment) and can't wait to get home and watch the episode where Justin sticks it to Ethan!

I'm from London and am yet to meet someone who is into the US version.. a few people saw the UK version but it was too gritty and dramatic for them. I must admit the US version is dreamy and polished.. not to mention containing the most BEAUTIFUL man in the world! I'm such a lovestruck teen chick again :) MMM Kinney!

I wrote my first fanfic yesterday.. I'm a bit shy to share it but its a great way to delve a bit deeper into the hearts and minds of these fictional (but entirely believable) characters and enjoy the show that teeny bit more ;)

*hugs*

I LOVE the way same sex relationships are portrayed. However 'gripping' a conventional romance is portrayed on the screen - the same inevitable questions will eventually arise. Marriage? Babies?

QAF shows us that it CAN be this way for same sex relationships, but as with the case of our favourite boys, it doesn't have to be that way, and the alternative can be much more exciting.

Hi! I found my way here through various channels, I've been lurking for quite a while and everything has started to blur together. I have decided to finally step out of the shadows so...here I am. lol. I randomly discovered QAF on youtube during break. I then proceeded to devour the entire series in 5 days. Needless to say I didn't get any sleep. It's been quite a while since then and this obsession doesn't seem to be slowing down. I'm almost ashamed to admit that my school work has suffered because of it...almost. I have no friends who share my deep love for everything QAF so I've created a LJ ( qaf_smg ) where I can hopefully meet some like-minded people. Thanks for listening to my nervous rambling!

Hi! I've been here for a while now - about 3 days to be exact. I've been fiercely devoted to QaF since 2002, but haven't been able to watch season 5 and most of 4. That's about to change! I got some DVDs and at the moment, I'm very, very Season 1. I'm trying to wait between episodes so I can savour it. But it's hard! I am thrilled I found this place. I've never had anything to do with fandom before, and I never knew about IJ or LJ. The learning curve is quite steep for me. But fun!

I have a question about friends. What are they? I feel a bit like Frankenstein or ET or something asking that. But I don't know what is the significance of being someone's friend, or asking them to be your friend. It seems like I should get some friends, but what if I then get overwhelmed with notifications? I'll feel rude if I can't keep up with them. But if I have no friends, maybe nobody will read my journal. In real life - or even on web forums - you don't ask someone to be your friend, you just hang out and gradually click with people. So is it like that here? Sorry for being slow on the uptake :D
