Who: Ivy, Eve and open to anyone who knows the location of Ivy’s lab
What: Good old quailty time, before an unexpected guest drops by.
When: Late morning
Where: Ivy’s lab
Rating: PG for now...

Awaking at some late hour in her organically grown hammock, Eve slid out onto soft grass carpet below, which, along with the absence of barb marks on her ankle cast a confused frown on her otherwise calm expression. Slipping into the room outside her own, she peered past the threshold, aggravated with nervousness - wondering if it hadn’t been all a dream

“Ivy?”

Standing uneasily by herself, within the walls of Ivy’s rainforest laboratory, Eve leaned forward, staring in distractive fascination at the various fruits laid out in a neat eye-catching pile situated several feet away from the door. She was tempted somewhat to sit and finish of what she could, but she couldn't quite ignore the queasy feeling in her gut, her mitochondria – in unison – trying to overcompensate for the tainted oxygen they had received the night before.

“Ivy…!?”

Calling the woman’s name again, Eve began to feel a certain presence off in the distance, faint and weak, but somehow familiar. Concentrating her focus and peeling back a wall of confusion Eve felt the small organelles inside her shivering, like excited animals which had just found a new play-toy and wanted to know exactly what it was.

Blowing out a breath, trying to calm herself again, Eve exited the makeshift rainforest hastily, pushing past the light spilling out from the vast entryway.

“Ivy… are you in here?”

Ivy stormed into her lab in one of her patented moodswings, after a long night of a failed fight against Venom. How could her plants survive if they couldn't even match strength against a common street demon?

"You lied." She said, doing her best to hold back her temper tantrum she was inches away from unleashing.

She began throwing awway vials and rows of samples and tests, igniting failed vmapire plants, seedlings, trees- all of them nearly screaming out in pain as they withered and shook as the flames destroyed them.

"I've done everything- EVERYTHING- your scientific files said were sucessfull attempts at mutating your itty bitty magical mitochondria to work outside of your pretty little host self. Vector virus, mutated RNA to match the DNA, clones... nothing works so you had best tell me how to jump start your little organelles into action or this world is going to be doomed with no plants able to grow in complete darkness." She said, her toxins almost oozing out of her spores in her fury.

Eves eyes moved to the livid woman destroying the room around her, , watching like an onlookers at a car accident locked in place. Swallowing hard, ignoring every bit of her that told her not to make the situation worse, she avoided Ivy’s angry eyes. The woman was beginning to sound like Dr Bowman when he had not achieved the exact result he wanted.

“I didn’t lie...” She shivered, shaking her head. The topic was getting to be TOO much for her.

“You’re sounding like him Ivy… Please don’t be like him…Please don’t… please…” she pleaded, sounding more like a personal mantra than anything.

"Then here. Play with one of your siblings!" She spat, throwing one of the neovamp plants at the girl.

The plant hit the ground and began growing towards Eve, doing what its mistress was telling her to do telepathically...

Sibling?

Eve narrowed her eyes at Ivy, blinking away salty tears, part of her awash with the feeling of betrayal, the other part, simply afraid. The warm sensation, the tingling that ran through her body, started at her toes, running up her legs, instantaneously travelling up her spine, finding it’s way all the way to her fingertips.

Her mitochondria within the plants sensed this, tried to get away, but failed, Ivy’s determined orders making it a little hard, without Eves stimuli to take over and stop itself. Eve was left with one option.

Within several feet of her, she caught the plant in her cellular vicinity, the signals of neoteny allowing the mitochondria to deconstruct the cell around it turning the once vibrant weapon into nothing more than orange liquid, crystal waves pooling out over the floor. In the moments pause she thought she had, Eve made a beeline for the exit door.

It felt as if something at slapped Ivy in the face.

"No wait!"

Batman was right... she couldn't be a mother. She was more plant than human. She sent that plant to hurt her.

She wanted to hurt her little girl.

She sunk to her knees, her hands covering her face.

"What have I done?"

Pausing, her hand still midway into reaching for the doors handle, Eve tossed a glance back towards the green woman. Her mitochondria toyed with the various outcomes of walking out, or staying. Host liked Ivy. Ivy had done something real bad, but like her old self, security sometimes outweighed the dangers. It let it’s host make the decision.

The semi guarded sigh was crystal clear.

“Ivy…” she sheepishly stepping toward the sunken woman arms protectively crossed over her chest. “ I never lied to I promise. You know those bad men you said hurt you. Bad men did something to me too. They made me. But not like a mom and a dad do.”

She bit her lip – hard – trying to become at least half composed.

“They wanted me to use my mitochondria, to hurt people…to make them turn into monsters. Scary ones… And then… Aya… No… I don’t know,. I wake up here and now I’m all alone.”

While others took care of the snake attack, Dick, sure that a villain like Poison Ivy might have her vines in it, decided to go investigate. Her lab was not hard to find after several hours of investigating. And soon, he was crouched nearby, using a listening device to hear what was going on inside.

What was Ivy up to now?

"Oh darling..." She said, extending a bare hand. "I'm not trying to make monsters. I'm trying to save the planet. If the sun never returns, this entire world will fall into chaos with the entirety of food crops destroyed. If I can use your blood with the blood of the monsters outside to save the world... wouldn't you want that?" She withdrew her hand, realizing it was bare.

"I'm sorry, Eve."

"That's ok" The youngster replied with a sympathetic smile.

Slipping onto her own knees Eve used her own hands to push herself closer to Ivy. She stopped next to the green woman and placed her left palm on the floor, her fingers an inch short of the liquid substance - mitochondria at it's most basic form.

"I want to help... anyway I can."

With that the puddle on the floor began to shift, being drawn into the center point where it formed the shape of a large fern. Slowly but surely the orange fluid began to form the solid shape, as green and healthy as one would have expected it to be normally.

Which monsters? And was the girl a meta-human? Holy Schemes! This could be bad!

Robin loosened his gear, ready to move, just in case. He had faced Icy before, but never alone and never with a hostage in the way. He took a deep breath and let it out and listened on.

Ivy smiled, happy to see Eve so quick to forgive her for her outburst. She looked down at the remaining seeds in front of her from the latest batch.

Slowly tilting her head to the side, she realized that was, perhaps, missing a vital piece of the puzzle.

"Could you... perhaps, then... try and activate them? Make them work?" She picked up one of the seeds. Within seconds it grew and flourished into an Eve-sized plant. It was almost a clone of Eve, only made of of the blood red neovamp plant. It stood in front of the girl, as a mirror image, awaiting orders.

Eve barely hid the surprise on her face. Her mouth hung open with an answered question as she cocked her head to the side, wondering how this had all come about.

“I can make it…change… grow… control it…” she admitted quasi reluctantly, still in throes of confusion.

The being, this creature had already been ‘activated’ It was alive, in a sense, even if it didn’t have real emotions. She could feel its mitochondria, tainted, but reacting to herself in a way she could discern. Reaching out to touch her clone a small ark of yellow light crackled between the two. The ‘other’ greener Eve began to mutate, large bulbous branches sprouting from her legs, and just as quickly, snapping off, forming small masses of organic flesh.

“It’s easy to create… duplicate… but once they are… they… become… problematic… they want to serve their own purpose. Don’t work together…” She paused, peering down at the creatures, creating a cellular domino effect – whereby each blob sizzled into nothing but the same orange liquid Ivy’s attack plant had amounted to. It was then the words of Bowman’s lectures flooded into her consciousness. Ivy had known about her, inner self; could she too have been from Neo Ark?

“Ivy… how did you find out about me?”

Dick started. What the heck was going on? It sounded like they had some kind of plant machines... or something.

He carefully eased back, looking for somewhere he could see what was going on. This could be a key!

Or not. Either way, he skirted the building and found a window, slipping in silently.

"I'm a doctor too, Eve. I accessed your doctor's journals and publications and they were quite startling... the things he made, the things you can do, Eve. ...The things you are doing! We will save the world, my darling. Together... like a family." She said, dipping into her fantasy once again of being a mother.

"....Make it attack." She whispered, her eyes suddenly brighter and twinkling with a long forgotten lust. She brought forth a tree, uprooting itself and creeping towards the plant!child like something out of a nightmare. "Attack the tree, Eve."

Pausing to revisit Ivy’s answer, Eve nodded satisfied at least superficially with the answer.

Smiling thoughtfully at the mention of ‘family’ she couldn’t help falling into the almost childlike fantasy. She’d never really had one, not as far as she recalled. There were other ‘sisters’ she felt existed in her nursery, but it wasn’t the same. Perhaps her and Aya had been a family – they looked alike – not that she could remember too much – but the same twinge of happiness crept over her when she did, also came with Ivy’s words.

Although the green woman’s next words, weren’t quite what she expected.

Stepping backwards, the tree having entered a to-close-for-comfort vicinity, able to reach out and touch Eve with its branches if it so wished, Eve fought the inescapable feeling of dread rising in her throat.

“Do… I have too.” She murmured wishing not to attack or attacked.

Responding more to the shift of thought rather than the situation, the plant clone jerked to ‘life’. It turned to face the impending danger, the demonic play of shadows across it’s face making it look exceptionally menacing, despite the blankness of emotion on its face. Plant!Eve stepped robotically between host and tree calling upon the various puddles in room to reunite, to fight.

Swinging out at the plant clone almost angrily, the tree snatched her wrist. Pausing in that vital moment, Eve!Clone was bowled backwards, her head slamming into the floor with a crunch.

Using the puddles, sliding them toward a point just shy from the trees roots forming several miniature barbed hybrids that climbed their way up the trunk shellacking the bark with an orange glaze as they ascended Eve stood back. Burrowing into the tree, efficiently tearing at its insides, the orange glaze hardened into a thick blanket off moss, restricting it, keeping it from moving any further or shaking off the hybrids which began pulling of branches, flinging them into nearby walls.

Using all its strength the clone picked itself up, seemingly unaffected by the large gash marring the left side of its head and with a full chested preternatural growl charged at the tree, using her now elongated fingers to rip away at the trunks structure

Narrowing her eyes at the tree Eve began to fell faint. The mitochondria like ravenous wolves, did not really want to be controlled, but had to, too make sure mitochondria host could survive to pass on more DNA., only they weren’t going to give up complete autonomy making it hard for Eve to force the coercion between the different creatures.

Especially now the moss was breaking into numerous creatures, eating at the wood inside, consuming a great section of the tree until it became almost unrecognizable through the solidifying orange mitochondria that fully encased it.

For the time being the clone had done its job – it became – unemotional once again – rejoining the other two. Eve took several shallow breaths trying to stifle any insurrection, from the morbid structure they had just created as she let Ivy survey the scene.

Hearing Ivy and Eve's last words as he slipped inside, seeing that, well, that was enough for Dick. Tugging on his mask, he moved to find an exit and let the authorities know. Of course, that was when he tripped over a plant. Of course.

He managed to find his feet immediately, but his listening device clattered to the floor with a loud noise and he was committed. He spun and a bat-net-arang was whirling toward Ivy, another toward Eve. If they worked, they would pin the two with weighted nets. If...

Ivy watched the destruction of her tree, finally realizing her error. She could not control the neomits because she had no neomits herself. She smiled proudly as Eve finally finished her battle.

"Very good, my --" Someone crashed behind them. She turned, twisting her face in anger. "Hide, Eve." She whispered loudly as she began walking in the direction of the sound. Before she knew it, two batnetarangs because twirling towards herself and Eve. "GET DOWN!" She shouted to Eve as vines whipped around and threw off the net directed towards Eve. Ivy herself was enclosed in the net and soon tumbled to the floor.

After twisting and worming within her confinement for a few moments she stopped.... and began laughing.

Ducking just in time for Ivy to snap the net flying towards her, Eve jumped back and landed on her haunches with a sharp pain. Adrenaline pumped just a little harder, soaked up eagerly by her mitochondria, forcing her into a predictive reaction: flight.

Masking the pain, she started for the door, a throbbing heat emanating from her caught in her chest, as she looked for somewhere, anywhere to hide. The room she had slept in seemed good enough.

"I thought it couldn't possibly be Bats... Too sloppy. Too eager. But I suppose the true question now is... why would the boy wonder come here alone?" Ivy's powers began opening beautiful black orchids that were perched throughout the lab. As soon as they were open, Ivy's signature mind-control pheromones flooded the room. Vines began trailing quickly after Robin, eager to grab him and wrap around him like a python.

Ivy laughed again. "Ooh, it's been so long... It feels so good!" Her own vines began wrapping around herself to pull the net apart. She was easily freed as the vines acted as a hand tp help Ivy stand back on her feet. The vines continued to move and twist around Ivy seductively, removing her lab coat revealing her nude body. The vines still continued to wrap around Ivy, becoming her new clothing. "Come here, little bird."

Although the youngster had managed to find a well hidden hiding spot, using her clone temporarily as cover, the noise from outside eventually drew Eve back out, not entirely in the open none the less but still to where she probably should not have been.

Gingerly peeking out from behind her door, a streak of panic took Eve as her naive blue eyes spotted Ivy acting in a way she had never before seen, leaving a sickly nervousness in her belly. Eve gulped, hoping that the change her been brought on by protectiveness and not something more malevolent.

Dick took a breath to cry out and inhaled the pheromones, then shivered as his eyes glassed over slightly, and a surge of pleasure at her words toward him came through. He fought it, but he still felt himself reacting when he saw her nude and wrapped in vines. He swallowed at her words causing that surge again, and slowly moved toward her, feeling vines wrapping around him. he had definitely messed this one up. But most of him could not be bothered to care, as his body and mind seemed foggy.

Ivy strutted up to Dick, meeting him halfway while smirking as she ensnared her prey. Running up a hand up his chest, she mused "You're different from the last one.... how many is this now? Four Robins? I must say, Batman is getting a bit old." It felt so good to be so bad again. She tried to fight her nature, she tried so hard. She wanted to be a mother. She wanted to save the world. But when it came to Batman, she crumbled. He made her evil. He sent Robin here. It meant something.... but what?

Trying to into Ivy’s conversation quite unsuccessfully, the clone she had left lying in her room suddenly formed behind her. Placing its hand on its human counterpart, the words, whispers came through its mouth, dormant mitochondria in the trees carcass acting as a sensor.

“Who’s Batman?” Eve whispered to the clone, not expecting to get an answer but otherwise needing someone to ask. Was he a bad guy, the person who Ivy was talking about; the bad man who hurt her.

With that she again confided in the clone, her voice barely audible. “Who ever he is… he’s sure in a lot of trouble…”

Her husky voice made him shiver and groan, being very aware of her body next to his.

"I, ah, don't know... he didn't send me... I came alone..."

He didn't want to answer, but the pheromones acted in him like a command to answer her, and do as she said.

Ivy furrowed her brow. The first? What was this game Batman was playing at? Ivy continued to slither her hand up his costume, reaching his neck and jawline. She ran a single finger across his chin, leaving a trail of a chemical rash anywhere she touched. She was beyond the poison of her namesake now. She was concentrated ricin; a drop the size of a single grain of salt was enough to be the lethal dose for a human. Her finger trail would not do the damage, however, her kiss was as fatal as they came.

Ivy's lips hovered over Dick's, knowing fully well her own toxicity. "Be my lover," she whispered. Her vines slithered off of her own body and slithered under the costume of Dick, digging their torns into his flesh to create a home for themselves. They would continue to feed Dick the pheromones and poisons required for his mind control, until discovered and removed.

Ivy’s actions had become frightening from Eve’s odd angle of sight. The voice inside Eve’s head begged again to stay in her safety zone, throwing itself to the back of her mind to cower from the scene, imploring that she not upset Ivy and make things worse.

Yet she still wanted it to stop, wanted Ivy to turn back into her self. The inky, pervasive thoughts of her past, every person she knew; dead. She couldn't help the reaction welling up inside of her. The man with Ivy wasn’t someone she liked, but, he, reminding her of her previous helplessness, was someone she did not want to see being hurt.

Watching on, her bottom lip quivering she couldn’t help let out a single sob, as her inner conscious fought with survivalist mitochondria.

His eyes cleared and he smiled softly at Ivy, shivering in her presence. Somewhere deep in his mind, Dick was screaming, but out of his mouth came a calm voice, almost worshipful.

"Yes, Ivy. You honor me with such a choice."

But this is all our little secret. If Batman were to know, he'd kill us both and take away Eve. Your job now, my darling, is to stay with Batman and be his faithful assistant. Family... Eve didn’t attempt to hide the surprise on her face. She was expecting the man to be tortured, killed, but this... This wasn’t at all what she thought Ivy had planned. In one way, it was just a short ways off torture, but in another, it was for survival – especially since this ‘Batman’ could so easily rip her away and hurt Ivy without reason. But was it right to force someone to become family? To force someone to become your security?

Weighing the options, Eve remained still a second more before her collective mitochondria, having done this on more than a few occasions asserted itself over the other morally conscious voice, taking the choice away from host on a sub conscious level.

With that, a green hand flew out and snatched Eve by the collar, pulling its young counterpart back into the room hastily, imperative to its host’s innate need for survival, stopping host herself from getting into ‘trouble’.

“stop it..” she hissed at the clone, slipping backwards, falling on her backside resentfully.

Ivy turned to Eve, still with the burning lust of vengance in her eyes... She was going to get her Batman... She looked down, confused for a second as it registered in her mind that Eve was upset. Crying, even. For a moment, emotions battled within Ivy. The nature versus the nuture intertwined within until she forced the good within her to pour out once again. "Oh honey. I know this doesn't make sense to you... but it will, one day." She said, wanting to wipe the tears from her child's eyes, but suddenly stopping as she saw the green tinge in her hands: a reminder of her toxin.

"Batman is a very bad man who will stop at nothing to take you away from me. He is the bad man. If you ever see him, you run," She said almost with a hint of fear in her voice. "C'mon now. There were a lot of things Eve couldn’t make sense of but she knew better than to doubt the only person who came close to being a mother figure in her world, a small smile from the ‘dream’ slipping onto her face. There had to be a way to stop the bad people, despite the severe lack of knowledge she had about it, Ivy knew what was best.

Wiping under her eyes with a partially dirty shirt sleeve, as she tried to quell the last sliver of worry from her thoughts, Eve took note of Ivy’s warning, and comforting smile that told her things would be ok.

Nodding, Eve stepped forward; her mitochondria assuring the memory of events just passed would soon become seemingly distant, an errant thought, the youngster looked up in childish curiosity.

“Do you like to draw Ivy? Can we do that?”

Ivy lifted an eyebrow. Draw? "I... can't say that I have ever drawn... but we can do that." she said, eyeing Eve's dirty clothes. She made a mental note to steal some new clothes later. Ivy strutted to her printer to take some paper for the child. She only had a few pencils and pens... she made another mental note to steal various art supplies and toys that would be fitting of a girl her age. How old was she, anyway? "Eve, how old are you?"

Accompanying Ivy to the printer, absentmindedly sweeping an unhindered finger along the surface of the desk next to it Eve shrugged, unsure exactly how to answer the question.

“I… don’t know…” She replied awkwardly, shifting uneasily with the question. Five? One? Twelve? Different people had all offered their view. One person in jest of mental age, the second in a literal interpretation, as well as the third, a well meaning observation of how old she assumed she looked like. But with all memory spaces aside, she could have been any of those

“I was one once… Then someone told me I acted like a five year old and a man on the street said I ‘couldn’t be a day over twelve…’”

Cocking her head tentatively she watched Ivy’s eyes for any sign of disapproval

“How old should I be Ivy?”

Ivy lifted an eyebrow in curiosity. The child was more interesting by the minute. "....Let's just say that tomorrow is your birthday, instead. Nevermind ages." She said, remembering that her own age was distorted by science.

"We'll buy you everything you want: every toy and dress... Art supplies, too. No more bad men from now on."

“Ok tomorrow’s my birthday!”

She reiterated a smile of childish glee spreading across her face. Reaching out to playfully graze her fingers along a miniature palm frond she mentally treasured the idea of a having a ‘birthday’ especially since it meant receiving toys and being with Ivy – someone who would make the bad men go away.

Now more than ever she wanted to hug Ivy. Wanted to wrap her arms around her waist and squeeze as hard as she could, but as warning had it – she couldn’t. Instead she would draw Ivy a picture, something really pretty, nice, somewhat of a surprise.

“Does that mean…”

Looking at the paper in Ivy’s printer, her cheeks turning a light shade of pink as she constructed the last part of her sentence Eve cleared her throat nervously.

“You’re my big sister now?”

Ivy looked to Eve and smiled warmly. "I'm a bit old to be your sister, Eve. I would rather think you'd prefer a mother."

“A mother?”

Eve had never technically had a mother, at least not that she remembered. Perhaps that was for the best. Maybe she was meant to forget or ‘not have one’, so that Ivy would be able to fill the innate need she felt within.

“Then…you’ll be my mother? And well be a real family?”

Copying the woman she now assumed was ‘mother’ Eve let her own warming smile send the message, that she, if anyone was more partial to becoming a family, than she could find fitting words for.

“I... I like that idea…”
