Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:acheron parthenopaeus, arriving, yuna

I'll hold on to the wings of the eagles
WHO: Yuna and Ash.
WHAT: The former High Summoner arrives.
WHEN: Early morning.
WHERE: Spira and then the island (Oh, no, LOST!)
RATING: PG at most.
STATUS: COMPLETE.

Yuna's life was far from simple. Or calm. Or even easy, for that matter. Her experience as a Summoner had both hardened her and made her wise. The pilgrimage was an experience like no other, something she’d never trade for anything else. It allowed her to leave her mark on the people she passed along the way and to establish the relationship a Summoner must have with her people, as well as her guardians. And it brought her to Tidus…but after he “died,” she had all but broken down. How could she have missed his unsent soul? Sending him was by far the most painful thing she had done in her lifetime, silly as it may have sounded to someone else. Had it not been for her cousin Rikku, she would surely still be a mess. But that was all gone now, over with. Though Tidus still haunted her dreams, and she still heard echoes of him damn near every day, Yuna had managed to move on.

It was to escape his presence that she sought out the sphere hunting, though often the treasures took her to places she’d seen with him on the pilgrimage. Somehow, she endured. She'd found strength and friendship in Paine and Baralai. She'd found comfort in Rikku and Brother. She had Gippal, Buddy, and Shinra.

Until today.

It was supposed to be another sphere hunt, one like any other in Djose. Yuna had broken away from Rikku and Paine to explore a cave, in hopes that by spreading out they’d have better luck in finding the sphere. She was trying not to hope too much that the sphere might contain something of him, even if it helped her get through the day. Yuna walked carefully through the cool interior, eyes scanning the surface for any glinting objects. She was too busy looking for the sphere to notice the loose debris, and she tripped clumsily, landing hard on her outstretched hands. She closed her eyes against the fall and waited to hit hard ground, but was shocked when she hit water. Thoroughly confused, Yuna snapped her eyes open and saw she had fallen into a fountain of ebony marble…and she was no longer anywhere near Djose. How she happened to fall in a cave and land in a fountain was beyond her, and it was terrifying.
Grimacing, Yuna pushed herself up, her half-skirt and short jean shorts wet from the fall, and gingerly stepped out of the fountain. She idly played with her floor length braid that was wrapped in a pink bandage and waited with increased breathing for anyone to find her and explain what the heck just happened.

Ash had finished exploring the floor he said he'd explore. He hadn't found anything but rooms, upon rooms. There was nothing truly exciting about the place. Reaching up he pulled his sunglasses off, letting his eyes adjust quickly to the light. It wasn't that it bothered him, and honestly he didn't have anything to hide from these people here. None of them knew who he was, and that, in itself was a relief.

Tucking his glasses into his trench coat he started back down to the lower levels of the mansion. He felt the pull of the gates as someone entered. A doctor from the future who didn't believe in anything but logic. He chuckled, she ought to be interesting to have around. Shaking his head he continued down to his room, and upon opening the door he slipped in and took his trench coat off. Sitting down in a chair, he picked up his electric guitar and began playing it softly, without the amp.

A blonde brow quirked up as he heard the gates open again. He stopped his playing, waiting for a moment and when it appeared that no one else was going to go greet the young lady he put his guitar down and stood.

He began his trek downstairs, eyes watching the woman carefully. She was confused, scared, and she had power that he'd never seen before. He paused at the final step, eying her for a moment with his ever changing silver eyes. "Hello, I am Acheron Parthenopaeus." He inclined his head to her in a slight bow, "Do not be afraid, I will not harm you." Ash knew all too well that his height often intimidated people, along with his eyes which made him wish he'd grabbed his sunglasses.

Finally he took the last step, clasping his hands behind his back as he started over to the desk. There on top of the gleaming wood surface lay a key much like his own. Picking it up, he rounded the desk and pulled out a map from the drawer. Glancing up at her he smiled as softly as he could, "Welcome to the mansion. Have any questions?"

Yuna was no stranger to odd and beautiful eyes. She herself had two mismatching ones, due to her heterochromia, making one blue and one green. And Spira had it's share of different races; Rikku herself had the eyes of an Albhed, meaning they contained an odd swirl to them. But while Ash's eyes didn't flare any fear, his height was intimidating. Not that Seymour hadn't towered over her, but she knew the danger he posed. This stranger was another story, though he claimed no harm. Yuna cleared her throat politely and introduced herself as well. She made the symbol of the Yevon prayer, outstretching her arms and then bringing them to her chest with one hand over the other, cupped as if holding some invisible ball, and bowed. "I'm Yuna Braska." She stood and met his lovely eyes with a small smile.

Yuna walked slowly over to the desk he stood behind, her boots making light clicks on the floor, and peeked around the mansion. She gave him an incredulous look when Ash wondered about her having questions. "I think I have too many. Am I still in Spira?" She'd take this one step at time, instead of bombarding him with how she had gotten here, who else was here, how could she return home, what was going on, who was he, et cetera, et cetera.

Ash's eyes watched her every movement, amused by the complex gestures of greeting. He smiled at her and bowed once again himself. "It is a pleasure to meet you, Yuna Braska." He meant it, and you could tell by the smile that met his swirling silver eyes. He was thankful that nothing had been brought up about his own eyes, for once. It was a small relief to the god. He could get to like it here, if he had Artie's blood. Without that, well, he was SOL.

He chuckled softly, holding out her key for her and a map of the mansion. His blonde brows furrowed slightly. Spira? He'd never heard of this place, world...whatever it was. He shook his head, "I'm afraid not. I think we're in a place called Earth. It's a planet in the Milky Way solar system." However, Ash wasn't a hundred percent sure that they were still in fact on Earth. That concerned him slightly, but as far as he could tell that's exactly where they were at. "Do you mind telling me about your world? This Spira, I've never heard of it, and that's very odd for me." He could've very well found out the information for himself but he would much rather her speak of it out loud to him. He wasn't a prying person and God forbid someone came into the mansion that could read him.

"Everything that you'll need to know about the mansion is on the map. Who's here, where certain rooms are and so on. However, it could change at any time, there are forces here beyond our control that keep us here." He started explaining somewhat what was going on. "The forces have also given the mansion and the island around it sort of a life of its own." He crossed his arms over his chest, and waited on her next questions that were sure to come.

Yuna felt much more at ease, and welcome, by Ash's smile, and she turned her shy grin into a smile of her own to match his. "Thank you, Acheron." She gratefully accepted the key and map offered to her, listening as he spoke, but eying the map with careful scrutiny. She did look up when he mentioned Forces keeping them from leave, her brow creasing with worry. "Can't leave? But..." She shook her head, perplexed. "That doesn't make any sense," she mumbled.

Yuna's worry evaporated temporarily as she described her home world in a proud and animated voice. "Oh, of course! There are twenty two places locations within my world. I was born in Bevelle, the largest city in Spira, but raised on the tropical island of Besaid after my mother died. I became a High Summoner, like my father, which called for Pilgrimages throughout Spira to the Calm Lands. There are flat fields there, surrounded my mountains. We have four races in Spira; humans, Al-Bhed, Ronso, and Guado, and of course different languages. We have monsters, like Imps and Flans, and we have the much nice Chocobos. You can tame Chocobos for riding. Did you want me to describe each place within Spira, like Djose or the Bikanel Desert?" For now, her questions could wait. Talking about home was comforting.

Ash inclined his head to her once again, "You are welcome, Yuna." His lips pursed slightly as she spoke, and he lifted a shoulder. "It really doesn't and trust us, we're trying to find a way back home. I know that people probably really don't want to be here, and want to get back to their lives in their own worlds." He knew he did, but he really wasn't looking forward to Artemis' punishment for his disappearance. Oh well, she'd get over it in due time. He found it quite odd that he couldn't even hear her, but it was a welcome break from the nagging goddess. "If we all band together I think we might be able to find a way out, the price though for bartering with the people who made this place will probably be a steep one though. Just to warn you."

Ash tilted his head to the side, long blonde hair falling over one shoulder. He smiled as she spoke of her land, picturing it with his mind's eye. He wouldn't pry for the actual images in her mind, he could feel her uneasiness wearing away, and that made him happy to see that she was comfortable. He nodded, "Yes, I would like for you to, and tell me more of the Chocobos. They sound interesting." He pulled the chair out from behind the desk, sitting down in it. With a flick of his hand there was a chair on the other side of the desk, "Have a seat if you wish. If you are hungry or thirsty just say so, the mansion provides food and drink for its inhabitants." He tilted the chair back on two legs, crossing his arms once again over his chest and waited on her to continue.

Yuna worried at her lower lip briefly before she spoke. "It's better to work as a team, I think, and with our various...backgrounds," because she assumed whoever else was here came from other worlds themselves, "maybe we can come up with something. Do you know if a Rikku arrived?" She had a list of names, but she didn't want to name everyone she was hoping were here. Lulu, Wakka, Kimari. Tidus. She had no idea what to think of the steep price Ash mentioned that they may have to pay in order to leave, and as it wasn't going to happen any time soon, she set those thoughts away for later. She pocketed her key, which read 422, anxious to see her room later.

Because the desk felt like a divider, Yuna pushed her seat next to Ash's before settling into it and talking away about Spira. "Well, Besaid is the southernmost part of Spira and has tropical climates and a temple where people used to make pilgrimages to. It's a very small island, but Kilika is bigger. Their houses are more like straw huts and there are many wooden docks about the island. Luca is the second largest city in Spira. They have the only Blitzball arena...Blitzball is a sport played underwater where you score points by throwing the blitzball through the y-shaped goal. The buildings are mostly white with red roofs.

Hmmm, the Mi'ihen Highroad connects Luca to Mushroom Rock Road, named for it's mushroom shaped rock formations. Many people died along Mushroom Rock Road. Djose is known for its temple. The temple is situated at the end of the Highroad and it's powered by the lightning element. It's surrounded by massive rocks which hover around the temple. The Moonflow is a massive river that flows through my world. You can ride Shoopufs there! They're these huge blue animals with a loooong trunk that coils when it's not stretched out. Guadosalam is where the Guado live, and it's the gateway to the Farplane. It's very ethereal there. It's mostly underground and lit with soft colored light, like greens and yellows."

Yuna paused, because she felt she should explain what the Farplane was, but it took a moment before she could go on. "The Farplane is the final resting place for the people of Spira. Summoners send the souls of the dead to the Farplane using a ritual dance called 'the Sending.' It's...indescribable, the feeling you get when you're in there. It's different for everyone.

The Thunder Planes are always and forever in the midst of a thunder storm. No one knows why it's like that, but as many die there, a man named Bilghen constructed metal rods all over to draw the lightening away from the main road and allow a somewhat safe passage. One of my favorite places, though, is Macalania. It's a large sparkling blue forest, full of glowing crystal formations and shining skyways. It leads out to an icy lake where pyreflies are often seen floating about, because the Macalania Temple once stood there.

Bikanel is a dester to the west of Spira. The Al-Bhed used to live there, but there was a war between them and the Guado, and they were driven out. It's mainly home to monsters now. Mount Gagazet is the highest point in my world and home to the Ronso. Oh, I forgot about the Hypello! They're another race in Spira, they're really cute. They have webbed feet because their aquatic." Yuna smiled when she had finished, her throat dry from talking for so long. She did not mention the Zanarkand Ruins.

Nodding his head in agreement, Ash then spoke. "I do believe that you are right. From the looks of things we're going to have a very broad group, which should prove to be interesting." He lifted a broad shoulder, and then shook his head with a sad smile on his face. "No, I'm afraid that a Rikku has not arrived, nor do I believe that anyone you know has entered the mansion." He hated that she was here alone, in this place with unfamiliar people. He knew though that she'd make friend quickly and easy enough. She was far too sweet to not make friends.

A blonde brow quirked up as she moved the chair nearer to him. Ash didn't mind, really, but he shifted a little bit in his chair at the somewhat closeness of the other. Simi, his demon who'd taken on her dragon tattoo form on his skin perked up considerably at the presence of the female, and she shifted on his skin as the other talked. Ash himself canted his head to the side, listening to her words and picturing the places she spoke of.

He smiled softly as she finished, making a glass of water appear on the table for the young woman. "Your home sounds incredible, Yuna. If I could leave my own world, other than coming here, I would love to see it sometime." He nodded his head slowly, meaning his words. His home of Katoteros, the Atlantean term for Heaven was beautiful at times. Then of course there was Earth. He missed his home, but he didn't miss the responsibility of what home encompassed. "It sounds like you have many interesting things on your world, and I'm sure many interesting tales to speak of as well. When you are ready, of course." He gave her a wink and another smile.

"Do you have anymore questions that I could answer for you?" He asked, raising a brow over at her as he lowered his chair back to rest on four legs. "I'll tell you what I can to the best of my knowledge." If she asked him any direct personal questions, other than what his home world was like or about the mansion he'd have to fudge the truth a little.

Yuna hadn't really expected her cousin to be here, but it was still disappointing. Nodding, she smiled warmly at Ash, perking up at the notion of him visiting Spira. "I would love to have you, Ash. I could show you around on our airship, the Celcius. You could see a Chocobo up close!" And then she remembered he'd also asked about the bird-like creatures and she blushed. "I'm so forget today, sorry. You asked about the Chocoos...they're large flightless birds that are tamable as pets or as a means of transportation. They're usually yellow, but the rare breeds are different colors, like black or red. They were used as war mounts once, but the battle didn't end so well. They're really sweet," she cooed, missing the silly birds. She was happy she could open up to Ash and that he was willing to let her go at her own pace.

"Well, I've just told you about my home, why don't you tell me about yours?" And she was genuinely interested, moving forward in her seat a little.

Ash smiled softly back at her, "An airship? Interesting." He chuckled softly, and lifted a shoulder. "Don't worry, we all forget some things at times." He listened as she spoke, they sounded almost like ostriches, or emus to him, well except for the coloring of course. "We have birds that are similar in my world. But I highly doubt they'd be tamable enough to ride." He shook his head, "One is called an ostrich, it's black and white. The other one, is an emu, they are brown and black and smaller birds than ostriches are."

He canted his head to the side, "My world?" He smiled fondly as he thought back on Earth. "Well, I'm from a place called Earth, and I don't really ever call once place home. We have seven continents on our planet; North America, South America, Africa, Europe, Asia, Australia, and Antarctica." He thought for a moment on how to explain things. "Antarctica is nothing but ice and snow. We have teams of people though that do go there to study though, but they're smart enough to not die. Well most of the time." He lifted a shoulder and continued on. "Australia is a small continent, comprised of six states and two main territories. It's mostly desert, but there are some temperate climates there as well."

He smiled, "Asia is the largest continent comprised of sixty two countries. The climates there vary from desert to temperate to tundra. It's a very diverse place, and the most populated of our continents. Europe has sixty four countries, most of them smaller in comparison to those of Asia. This is the continent that I was born on, long ago before they'd explored the others. It varies in climate as well, but it's mostly temperate with lots of rain." He remembered the rain, he remembered it well. "Then there is Africa, nothing but desert. It's inhabited though, and people who live there seem to like it. Although the continent is plagued by civil war constantly." He shook his head, a sad smile upon his features.

"South America is made up of fifteen territories, Brazil being the largest. It's mostly rain forest there, but little by little the people are taking over the land. Which is sad, honestly." He paused for a moment, "Then there is North America, comprised of the United States of America, Mexico and Canada. Canada is located at the most northern part of the country, and the USA is located right below it and follows down to Mexico which borders South America. North America is large, not as big as Asia or Africa though in landmass. I personally spend a lot of time in the USA, down in a city called New Orleans in the state of Louisiana. But North America has the most diverse climates, and geography than any of the other continents." He nodded his head, and then thought for a moment.

"I could always just show you these places. Well, still pictures at least in your mind if you'd so wish it. I promise that it won't hurt or that I'll pry into your mind." He watched her carefully for a moment, wondering if she'd take up the offer to see his home.

Yuna was glad for the similarities in homes they shared if only for the connection aspect. And if he could somehow picture a Chocobo better by relating to these ostriches and emus, then all the better.

When he went into his story, she drew up her knees on the seat and hugged them to herself, listening intently. His Earth sounded much, much larger than Spira. It was almost dizzying and she was sure she could lose track if he listed all these States and countries.

"You can...show me?" Yuna wasn't sure she followed him, but she was intrigued none the less. "I guess if it won't hurt..sure." Her grin was apprehensive, but this idea of seeing things in her mind sounded like it wouldn't be so bad.

Ash nodded his head, "Yes, I can show you." He smiled softly over at her, it full of reassurance. "It'll be like you're looking a picture before it changes into another."

He let out a long breath, conjuring up a picture of all the different places he'd mentioned and projected those images to her. He left the images there, letting her look over each one for a few moments before moving on to the next one. Once he was to North America, he showed her a picture of Louisiana before Hurricane Katrina had ravaged the land. "And that would be the city of New Orleans, a place that I do happen to visit quite often." He smiled, ending the picture show and canted his head to the side.

"So, what do you think of my world?" He watched her reactions carefully. He did not show her other things of his world. Like Mt. Olympus, Katoteros, and Atlantis. There was no reason to share those places with her, even if they were beautiful in his eyes. He didn't show her the people in his world either, but for his own reasons. He had to keep those who were close to him, and under his watch safe and hidden.

Yuna sat in antisipation of what was to come, gasping quietly when the images appeared in her mind. She focused on each one, relating the images to parts of her home and chuckling once at the similarities. When they disappeared, she almost pouted, but was able to regain her composure. "How do you do that?" Her tone was nothing less than amazed, eyes wide in awe.

"It's amazing, Ash, I...it's a lot like home in some parts. New Orleans looks like a lot of fun, I'd love to actually go there one day." She tilted her head in a wistful manner, recalling the images with a small grin.

A deep throated chuckle came from Ash. "I have powers, a lot of them, and that is only a taste of one." He said no more on the subject. It wasn't like he would hide too much, and just her presence had put him good mood. When in a good mood, Ash tended to reveal more about himself.

He smiled at her words, "I knew that there would be similarities in our worlds." He chuckled once again, nodding slowly. "Oh, it is lots of fun. Especially during Mardi Gras, but things sometimes tend to get a little out of hand. It's like a big party, where everyone is drunk and enjoying themselves a little too much." He smiled at her words, "And if there was a way to take you with me to visit my world, I surely would take you there to see it." And Ash meant it. He really did. Although she wasn't like Tabitha who was rough around the edges, her company soothed Ash much like Tabitha's had.

"Is there anything else I can do? Any more questions that you have?" He canted his head softly to the side, brows furrowing slightly.

Yuna was impressed and decided to share as well. "I can perform magic. Lulu taught me on the island. And as a Summoner, I learned how to call on Aeons to aide my party in battle. I can show you some time, but we'd have to go outside. They tend to be big."

She felt gratitude towards Ash's truthful statement, trying not to blush any more than she had today. If everyone here was as helpful and kind as Ash, then maybe it wouldn't be so bad. She was certainly glad he had been the one to welcome her here to this place. "Thank you very much, but I...I mean, of course, I have a thousand questions, but I need time to process all this. It's a lot to take in, a lot to...get used to." Yuna's lips twitched into a sad smile as she looked out over the lobby.

Ash's brows rose at her statement. Smiling he nodded his head, "Well, I'd certainly like to see those...Aeons, some time." He'd never heard of Aeons. And here he thought he was so powerful, there were new things he was learning about every day it seemed. Some of those powers could come in handy for his people. To say it was humbling was putting it mildly, but that was alright. For some odd reason the things called Aeons sounded familiar.

He pushed it to the back of his mind for the time being. Nodding he smiled, "I understand the feeling, believe me. But it will be alright. We'll eventually find a way out of here. Hopefully sooner than later. If you ever need anything feel free to stop by my room, or just call my name. I'll be there unless something prevents me from coming." He gave her another kind smile, "Shall I show you to your room, or do you got it?"

Yuna was happy to have something to look forward to, already thinking of which Aeons she would show to Ash.

"Thank you, I'd appreciate that. Only because it's my first time here and everything. Which room is yours?" Yuna stood and politely put her chair back where she found it. She turned to Ash and waited to be led to her room, letting her eyes travel around her surroundings as they walked further into the mansion.

Ash nodded his head, pushing his tall lean form from the chair, and shoved it back underneath the desk. "You're quite welcome." He smiled, thinking for a moment. "I'm in room 315, my name will be on the map as well, so if ever in doubt look there."

He walked with her, hands hanging loosely at his sides as he mounted the stairs. "Every one is listed on the map. So I would check it daily to see if anyone you know from your world has arrived." He turned his head, looking down at her with a smile. "The map is quite a peculiar thing." He stated as he mounted the third floor stairs, "It shifts, changes and adds those right before they enter."

315. Yuna committed this to memory, magical map or not and thanked him for the millionth, and not last, time. She took interest in hearing how the map worked, of course, and hoped that one day she would see a name she recognized; Lulu, Rikku, Gippal.

When they reached her room, she waited until Ash left her to step inside, wanting to do this alone. "Ash, I can't thank you enough for today, but thank you very much. I hope to see you around the hotel."

Ash inclined his head to her once they'd reached her room, knowing that she wanted to be alone. "Do not worry about it, Yuna. You will." He smirked a little bit, nodding his head toward the door beside hers. "I'd watch out for your neighbor, if I were you." He teased, giving her a wink. "He's a good man, no doubt, but he's a little off color."

With that he turned, and then looked back over his shoulder at her after he'd started walking away. "Have a good day, Yuna."
