“DAMN IT!”

Shinn Asuka, the black-haired, red-eyed, 18 year old pilot of the ZGMF-X42S Destiny was NOT in a good mood. He had gone out for a routine patrol and was supposed to have a date with Luna afterwards, but these DAMN terrorists just had to come along for a little bit of terrorizing. And the same DAMN terrorists attacked the hangar before anything else, closing it off. And, because of that, Kira wasn’t out here to help with his godly Strike Freedom and its little DRAGOON bits that fly around and blow the crap out of things for you. It was just Shinn and the Destiny against about 20 Windams and a Zamza-Zah. Now, Shinn was every bit a pilot as Kira was (well, close, anyway), and the Destiny was Strike Freedom’s equal in power. 20 mobile suits and 1 big mobile armor Shinn could handle. With ease.

“BUT THEY’VE GOT A DAMN NUKE!!!”

Somehow, the terrorists had landed themselves a nuclear missile, and it was approaching the colony, fast. Shinn was forced to ignore the remaining enemies and charge the missile with Destiny’s Palm Cannons, as all the other weapons (save the Hyper Cannon, but that was too slow) had been destroyed. Destiny took heavy damage during the charge, but managed to reach the missile intact, with its hand reaching out to destroy the bomb before it could reach the colony.

But as Shinn pulled the trigger, the world shifted. Suddenly, the Destiny was above a beautiful island at sunrise, and there was a mansion with gates bigger than the heavily damaged mech.

“W-What the hell!?”

Realizing that Destiny was moving too fast and was too damaged to try and land, Shinn tried to eject, but he was too late. The Destiny crashed in front of the mansion, with its left leg breaking off at impact. The right one had been lost in the battle beforehand. The Destiny, which was now merely a torso, slid along the ground until it came to a stop directly in front of the mansion’s gates. The ejection mechanism activated a little too late, and the cockpit hatch on Destiny’s chest opened and Shinn was flung through the gates, landing on the ground in front of a grand fountain.

He was going to feel that one tomorrow. And SOMETHING was broken, for sure. But, despite the pain he was feeling everywhere in his body, and despite the horrible music playing from… somewhere, all he could think was…

“What… the… hell… just… happened…”

Acheron had made no sounds as he'd traveled through the mansion. He felt the people all around him, felt their thoughts, their fears, their uncertainty about this place. The doctor from the future was still pouring over her notes, entering data into one of her computers about the place. If only she'd let it go, and let things be as they may. Oh well, he doubted anything could really convince her of the gods.

He slipped out the mansion doors, glancing up at the sky he had about another hour or two before another rain shower moved in. He breathed in the salty wet air, and slowly made his way down toward the beach. Ash tucked his hands down into his trench coat as he walked, humming softly into the night.

The sound of the waves crashing gently on the sand met his ears, and he smiled softly. Unlike other Dark-Hunters he was safe in the sunlight during the day, not that he liked the sun all that much, but still. The beach could be enjoyed just as well at night time, at least in Ash's eyes. He stopped, eyes scanning over the vast ocean in front of him.

Most of the inhabitants so far wanted, or needed to get home. What do you want me to do? He asked quietly in his mind, looking up at the cloudy starless sky. The clouds broke for a moment, the shimmer of stars over head twinkled at him. He scowled as he realized what he was looking at. Orion's belt. Rolling his eyes he let out a short breath, and turned his head. "What do you need?" He asked the person who walked up on him, not caring who it was or really what they needed.

It was not until the loose white sand beneath his feet changed into hard gravel that Dream realized something was wrong. Looking around he saw that the scenery had changed from a barren desert into a rocky shoreline; a set of stairs had been carved into the side of the cliff face that loomed in front of him. His gaze followed their path up the cliff, past a white gazebo that had been built into the side of the steep hill, and came to rest on a the large mansion that seemed to be the center of this place. None of it seemed remotely familiar. Somewhere during his walk through the Soft Places at the edges of the Dreaming, he had gone astray.

And indeed, he was no longer in the Soft Places. Had that been the case then leaving would have been a simple matter, requiring no more effort than a thought. But whoever or whatever ruled this place did not want him to leave, and had probably been what led him here, so skillfully that he had not even realized it. Dream of the Endless had never been one to panic, but as he stood alone on the beach, the reality of the situation sinking in, he was as close as he had ever come to doing exactly that. This was not some magician's spell; it was something much more subtle and more powerful, to have brought him here like this.

Whatever it was, and whatever their reason for bringing him here, they could not have chosen a worse time to do it. The Dreaming was not quite in the state it had been after the Kindly Ones had completed their vengeful rampage, but it was far from being fully restored. If Dream remained here for too long there was no telling how much further off that would become, or how much of what had been done would be undone. A memory that was not hs own tugged at the corner of his mind, a memory of returning to his kingdom and finding that is had been reduced to ruins and was slowly crumbling into dust... he could not let that happen again.

I suppose, he thought, that it would be useful to know where I am, at least. He approached the stairs, and slowly made his way up toward the mansion.
