*before his first appointment of the morning, finally gets around to organizing the contents of his desk drawers, a task he's less apt to do now that he has a personal secretary (but which needs doing with the same frequency, it seems)*
*is sitting on the floor behind his desk, clearing out the bottom drawer when his hand falls on a sheet of paper long forgotten, a letter creased and well-worn (and much-loved)*
*flexes the sudden heavy feeling out of his fingers and manages to lift the letter out of the drawer, eyes and hands scanning the familiar lines (I love knowing that you're there for me) (you gave me a reason to keep going and to keep living)*
*pulls himself to his feet, crumpling the paper into a ball as he does, though he finds he doesn't need to see the words to remember them (I know that it's not the end of Órë if we do argue)*
*flattens the paper out again with a tiny sigh, smoothing it across his desk (here's to all the years together)*
*tears the letter, first into long strips and then into tiny, neat pieces as Esther's voice sounds over the intercom to tell him his nine o'clock is on his way in*
