This was it. The big showing. The end of the term was coming and this was the senior's supposed time to shine. To show off what they had learned and what they could do. Opening night was even meant to somewhat mimic a real gallery showing. There was a table with drinks and small amounts of food for people to sample as they peered about at the pieces. The lights had been adjusted and set up to best reflect the work, and each student had their own section. Stand alone sculptures, murals, hand drawings, mixed media... There was a variety of just about anything the students could imagine.
And, claiming on of the corners, was the work of Adam Jenkins. Most of it was paintings and drawings, with only two pieces that stood on high tables, to prove himself able to work with other materials. They were far from his favorite medium however, and his pride showed much more clearly in the other works. A large painting that few would realize was from Mt Helicon and the temple there, the faint image of a woman dancing in the field, was much like the center piece. A series of pencil sketches showed his comic and graphic novel interest, telling a short story without any words, and letting each panel stand on its own. Another showed something like a fair ground, mostly colored in shades of gray, with a Bald Eagle soaring overhead in a blue sky, the colors of nature in the trees in the distance, the raptor and the hint of the sun being vivid in colorful contrast. He had other select pieces as well, rounding out the collection, and stood only a short distance away, ready to answer questions. At some point his teacher would come to pass final judgment, but until then... Well, he could only wait.
