WHO: Nicholas Rowland, His father [NPC], open to the entire house
WHAT: "I found you because you totally sent us your address which is a bad way to hide/"
WHEN: Friday evening
WHERE: Their house
WARNINGS: Swearsies, tba
All in all it had been a good enough day. Nicholas had been doting on JJ who was suffering from some rather epic morning sickness. Despite feeling ill though, JJ's spirits were high, which always made Nicholas feel better. And of course all of it just reminded Nicholas that he was going to be a father, which was probably the most amazing thing in the entire world. It was their last Christmas season without a child and from here on out, things were going to be incredible.
Nicholas even danced a little as he headed downstairs to answer the knock at the door. Once he had revealed who was on the other side, however, he stopped dancing. "M-Major?" Nicholas never referred to his father as 'dad', it just wouldn't be proper and Major Michael Rowland wouldn't have that. Behind his father, Nicholas could see his poor mother, wringing her hands and looking quite guilty. "H-how- N-"
"Stand up straight, Nicholas. You're not a teenager. I found the Christmas card you sent your mother, despite the fact that she tried her very best to hide it from me."
"Darling, I'm so sorry," Patricia Rowland said, rushing forward to hug her son. Nicholas, who still couldn't quite believe this was happening, allowed it.
"And the fact that I asked her to keep it from you so you wouldn't know where I was just...didn't matter to you, did it?" Nicholas shot at his father, annoyed that his perfect life was being interrupted with this crap.
"Mind your tone, son," Michael growled. "I know you have this ill-conceived notion that you have to hide your whereabouts from me, but rest assured I will always find you."
"That's not going to reassure me! I've been running from you since I was seventeen, Major. If weeks on the streets on my own wasn't enough to scare me back home, then I'm not sure how you think living in this amazing house with people I love is going to send me back to Jersey to a life of saluting and being called a pansy." Nicholas did, however, shoot his mother an apologetic look. For all the running he had done in his life, he had never really been running from her. Hell, if he thought she would have left, he would have taken her with him. Unfortunately she was entirely under Michael's control, which was how he liked things.
Michael, who was clearly done with waiting on the porch, pushed past Nicholas and into the house. "I'm not here to bring you back to Jersey."
"Just to show me there's nowhere I can go that'll be far enough away from you, hmm?" Nicholas hissed. "This is my house, Major, and you can fuck off out of it."
"It's so nicely decorated," Patricia interjected, because she hated it when Michael and Nicholas fought. Which was all they ever did.
"Patricia, no one needs your inane comments-"
"Hey!" Nicholas growled, taking a step towards his father. "Don't insult her. She is welcome here." Not that he had given her the address at all before Christmas. JJ being pregnant made him want to reach out and this is what he got for it. "Can't you just leave me alone?"
"No," Michael said firmly. "I am your father, boy. I won't be ignor-"
Loud footsteps silenced Michael's announcement, and when JJ swept into the room, her eyebrows meeting her hairline, Nicholas immediately put himself between his father and his girlfriend. "JJ go back upstairs."
"What the hell, Nicky? Don't tell me what to do. Who the fuck are you?" JJ insisted to Nicholas' parents. "What are you doing here? Do I need to call the cops."
"Oh please do, tell them Major Rowland of the United States Armed forces says hello," Michael quipped, and JJ's jaw dropped open.
"Holy shit, you're The Major?" she asked, causing Nicholas to wince. "Aren't you the one who told Nicky he had homosexual hair? That is so fucked up."
"Excuse me?" Michael did not look charmed by JJ's insistence that his homophobia was 'fucked up'. "Who are you?"
"I'm Jess and this is my fucking house," JJ shot at him, pulling her cell phone out of her pocket. "And I don't care who you are, Major Dickhead, the police will escort you off my property. I happen to know some cops."
"Did they arrest you?" Michael asked, raising his eyebrows.
"Oi, fuck you!"
"Stop it!" Nicholas yelled, more loudly than he meant to. "Major, this is JJ, she's my girlfriend." Before Michael's reaction could go beyond a dismayed look, Nicholas continued on. "I'll let you stay, though it's just for mother's sake, but the second you insult my girlfriend, you're going to be out that door, on your ass."
"I'd like to see you try," Michael growled.
"Your hair is so lovely!" Patricia said to JJ, as if that compliment would solve everything.
