Alex made it to one of his favorite parks in pretty good time, but then he'd caught the bus after school and not skateboarded over, so that helped.

He was on his skateboard now, on one of the wider park paths, practicing turns and small jumps. His backpack was beside one of the benches, where he could see it. Not that there was anything worth stealing in it. His wallet and iPod were in his pockets. He had his ear buds in and was listening to a random selection of his MP3s. He was on something by Coldplay at the moment, focused on a turn. There weren't many pedestrians around, so it was perfect.

Except for the rain, of course. It wasn't raining right now, but the clouds were dark and low and rain was in the forecast. Rain was always in the forecast in Seattle.

Not deterred, Alex continued to practice.
