Mod Post: April Challenge, project reminders, state of the communities and more!

Don't forget to change your Desktops!

And in the spirit of the season, this month's challenge is simple titled: Fools

Write, draw, drabble, create anything involving Lupin/Snape and any version of the word "fool" you can think of. There is no minimum or maximum word count or effort involved. The deadline for posting your effort is APRIL 30.

We seem to be in a bit of a community slump, so for this challenge, I gathered up some quotes and images to help inspire your efforts. If nothing below helps, you're always welcome to reply here seeking the kind of prompts that will inspire you.

Ongoing projects you can easily jump into:
Snupin: Bigger, Longer and Uncut - Our version of a Big Bang. Deadline to sign up for writers and artists is April 30, which is also the first-draft deadline.

Chocolate and Asphodel 2: A community project that gathers up creative pursuits for later presentation in a single format. Deadline is July 1.

State of the [info]lupin_snape communities: It's hard not to notice how quiet it's been around here, especially in terms of commenting. Please remember, the only way to encourage creators to keep going is to let them know that you're out there, seeing their works. You don't have to write a book or anything formal to leave a comment on a story or a piece of art. Two words, "Thank you", would do. I know it's tempting to drift back into a lurk mode with the Harry Potter fandom going through adjustments with the end of the series, but as fandom shrinks, your comments are more needed than ever if you want to keep people interested in the pairing we all love so much.

As for the lower number of creative posts, I'm of two minds - 1. It's to be expected for our medium ship to become small with the overall fandom shrinkage or 2. Somehow, the projects we have going on right now aren't inspiring or interesting to the creators still here. If the current community projects and challenges are keeping you away, please remember that the mod mail (lupinsnape @ gmail.com - remove spaces) is always available for you as a clear and direct line to me. If you have any ideas for future challenges or comments on the current ones, you can open a discussion with me at any time. I've always considered these communities as ours, not mine, but if you don't speak up, I have to go with my gut alone. Many great activities here have come from suggestions - The Darkside challenge, the calendars, C&A 1, etc. Please don't hesitate to share your ideas!

Remember, whether you prefer to operate on LiveJournal or InsaneJournal, the challenges and mod posts are made to both communities. And even if you are devoted to one journal system or the other, you can always follow the sister [info]lupin_snape on your journal through a syndication feed. If you are on InsaneJournal, you can add the LJ feed here. If you are on LiveJournal, you can add the IJ feed here.

Finally, the April Theme Search only has one response so far, and that's from posts on both journals. As McKay said, we don't do the searching for you, and anyone can submit a story to the theme list, so if you have a favourite story you want to see on the lists, which people search when they're in the mood for certain kinds of stories, you'll have to add it to the search post. This month's theme search is Werewolf!Snape. Any stories, including AUs and ARs, in which Snape is a werewolf either instead of, because of, or in conjunction with Remus are eligible.

And that's it for now! Thank you, one and all, for still being here and enjoying the community and pairing. You guys are the ones who make this place special. ♥

I'd sort of assumed everyone was working on projects for BLU and C&A, hence the quietness. Though school has me chasing my tail lately, so I'm probably more than a bit behind on what has posted anyway.

Thank you for all your hard work for this ship!

Thank YOU for always being such a great community member. The BLU and C&A projects have been quiet, too, so...*nervous mod*

You're welcome. But this is where I show that school has eaten my life and my brain: C&A has been quiet *where*? Because I am working on something I hope to submit, but if there's a specific comm or post or place set aside for chatting about it, I missed that somehow.

Well, if you click the links to the original posts, there wasn't much squee about it, or even questions. And in the contact mail account...Well, not much activity there, yet, either. I'll post again about it once we get past the BLU first deadline and see if anyone is actually planning on writing/drawing for it.

*HUGS*

Ah. I see what you mean. I hope plenty of others are writing and drawing for it. I've been looking forward to the second edition ever since I saw the first.

I agree with firefly. I think that a lot of the recent silence can probably be attributed to BLU and other projects taking up much of the writers' and artists' times/creative energies. Plus there are those who are in school, such as firefly, and I think this is mid-term time...ish? It's also spring break time for a lot of kids, so it is also likely that those who have kids are on vacation or busy with the younguns.

I think I've said what I'm about to say before, but...

Honestly, I this community is more active and involving than others I have been in for other fandoms of mine. I LOVE the constant challenges (because it inspires me to actually DO SOMETHING and gives me a deadline--which I usually need). Other ones I've been on have pretty much been just like a place to post your fic when you write it, if you write it. There wasn't as much of a community feel. So, I guess what I'm trying to say is THANK YOU to you and other the other mods and people who have helped to make this community what it is.

I want to see this place continue running strong, so I'll try to be more involved in help out, as opposed to just posting stuff. I'll start with the Theme Search! :) *rushes off to find links to her fave werewolf!Snape stories*

I have to agree with the others. I've bumped around various corners of fandom for a long time, and I've belonged to many communities that were, and are, far less active than this one, with mods who cared a whole lot less than you do here.

You should be proud of what you have here, and though you're right, a community only works if it has strong, active members, it also needs a good leader to provide the inspirational spark that keeps it strong. I think we're lucky to have both elements in this community. So thank you!

McKay and I have been writing up a storm, but... well, even as fast as we write 160K+ takes a while. ;)
