A regular run, on the day the mission fleet departs...

Despite her preference for taking all steps to avoid even being on the same deck as the Major, Anika knew she needed to keep flying the runs she did to keep their business running, and all the families they employed with either new materials, or to collect the finished items.

A shoulder to lean on.

While not very fast on her feet or graceful, Dani could lumber forward on her own power once she was on her feet. Still, she didn't mind the assistance from her friend as they made their way up the short steps into Sting.

Good Grief!

45 minutes after the incident

“…she was belligerent.” said Captain Dennison, Avalon’s Senior Landing Signal Officer. “I was ready to run over there to end a fist fight, but it never came to that, too bad though, it might have been entertaining.

The decks they were going to use for training hadn't been used recently John noted as he went around them again to give them a final once-over before heading up to greet his team as they arrived. Word had been sent through that they would start shipping in in a few hours and he was looking forward to seeing them.

One week. That's what he'd been told. One week to get the unit back operational and ready to roll out. It'd been three years since they'd worked together, but he knew most of them would be chomping at the bit to get back into their designated role. Especially his 2IC, Spider. Serben Webb, aka Spider, had hated being assigned to the job of 'peacekeeper', muttering to John on one ocassion they were having rec leave on Babylon together that if he'd wanted to be a cop he'd have '...joined the frakkin' MPs!!!'.

With a final look over the corridor that led to their 'goal' on the first training run John closed the hatch and locked it, the codes only known to him and very few others. They didn't want anyone wandering in there unwittingly as the training was going on. Whatever this mission was it was more secret than anything he'd been involved with since C-Day...

Dinner

Dinner proved to be fun. Their journey from the bar to the casual, easy-going dining area had taken a little longer when Rosie had mistakenly taken them down a wrong corridor, a lucky meeting with a crew member finally setting them back on the right track again.

Always one with a good appetite John finished off his dessert with relish, shaking his head when asked if he'd like another. The conversation had been light and fun, tall tales told and silliness imbued. As they left the dining room John looked across at the directory that indictaed where some of the entertainment areas lay, and what was available.

"So, what would m'lady like to do now?" he asked, indicating the directory.

Grave News

Reconnaissance could come in many forms. Intercepted signals, DRADIS reports, photographs... One of the best forms, in the super-cooled vacuum of space, was that of Infra-Red. Glancing over the data and associated analysis passed across her desk in a folder, Admiral Sinclair exhaled slowly, clenching jaw in reaction to what this now meant.

Some observed that interesting times could be a curse. The dillemma confronting her most surely qualified as that. It could mean salvation and damnation in equal measure. It was going to be one for the history books, regardless of the outcome or decision.

She could only hope that such texts would end up being written by human hands.

A few hours later and she had convened a meeting of all available military heads. If Comanders could not make it, then they were to designate a trusted representative. Marines were posted at the door, such was the sensitivity of what was to be revealed. The planning room was one of those areas of the ship which were sealed against electronic signals leaking out, even going so far as to be coated in a special type of paint, upon its construction.

Waiting for the last to file through, Sinclair nodded and the entrance was closed.

"Ladies and gentlemen, you'll have to excuse me for convening at such short notice... I trust you'll understand the need for such precautions, as soon as I reveal the latest and my intentions as for how to deal with it. Please believe me when I say this could be the most lethal engagement of the entire war... Please, also, believe me when I say this has the potential to cripple us, as much as the enemy. Whatever we decide in this room is going to affect our very survival as a species. If any of you feel unable to prosecute what will be asked of you, then I'll want you to make your voice heard, are we agreed?"

Betrayal of Duty and Conscience

Josiah glanced at the nearly empty glass, that he held in his hand. Sitting upright in the lounger, he drank down the last remnants of Ambrosia that had filled the glass.

Placing the empty glass on the small table next to the lounger, he picked up the file that lay upon his lap.

Kypros-Gaither Wedding Reception

Married. She was really married.

Dani couldn't help but stare at the ring glittering on her finger, the feeling of it against her skin was something she was going to have to get used to. She was keeping her own name professionally, and was still undecided whether or not she would take Rhys's name when off duty. They'd already decided that the children would have both their names - Kypros-Gaither - on their birth certificates once they came out into the world, but their mother was still trying to figure out the rest of it as she went.

The newly married couple walked hand in hand down the short corridor from Shangri-La's main dome toward the banquet hall where the reception was being held. The photographer had kept them busy after the wedding was over and now they were moving to join their guests to celebrate.

Dani squeezed the hand of her husband. It sounded right, even if the change in their status would take some getting used to.

Rhys lifted Dani's hand to his mouth, kissed a spot on the inside of her wrist. He had never been so...content before, possibly not even in the days before the war. The gold band on his finger was solid evidence that things had fallen into place, become orderly, or at least manageable. Perhaps he had not expected to have a ready-made family this soon, but the knowledge of impending fatherhood rested easily on his wide shoulders. He had never been a particularly religious man, but if the gods did answer prayers then he was thankful.

They would spend a few more days on-board the Shangri-La for their honeymoon, then return to duty. He hoped she wasn't feeling too ungainly to enjoy it. He'd never loved anyone so much.

"Kypros-Gaither," he said, leaning down a little so his mouth brushed his new wife's ear. "Gotta say, I'm liking the sound of it already."

Dani smiled up at him and stood up on her toes to kiss him back. "It does have a nice ring to it, doesn't it?"

She still wasn't sure if she was going to use it, but it was growing on her.

The couple approached the banquet hall, and were spotted by the staff. As they entered the hall they could hear the DJ announce the arrival of "Mr. & Mrs. Gaither." into the room.
