A regular run, on the day the mission fleet departs...
Despite her preference for taking all steps to avoid even being on the same deck as the Major, Anika knew she needed to keep flying the runs she did to keep their business running, and all the families they employed with either new materials, or to collect the finished items.
When she'd gone up to the hangar deck that morning she logged in her run with the controllers and launched from Shangri-La, for the first time ever feeling a sense of relief when seeing the bulk of the cruiser disappearing behind her. It had always felt like such a safe haven before, but not any more.
She apologised to those who commented on her not having been by when she normally would have, and laughed off questions from those who'd heard the rumours and stories that had spread around the fleet like wildfire. "Wow, really?" she said to one such query which had been accompanied by a vivid description of the event, nothing at all like what had actually happened. "Whoever told you that should seriously get into writing books! That's pretty damned amazing!" she joked.
Deliveries and pickups were made to the women and families who were what made up the huge 'cottage industry' the sisters had developed, and Anika was on the last stop, chatting with one of the women about new batch of silkworm caterpillars they'd just watched hatch out. Anika reassured her she would get the fresh leaves for them over to her the next day, "I promise. And thanks for these," she added, holding up the bag of silk cocoons the woman had brought her. She waved to the kids as she climbed back into Sting and was soon launching on the final run of the day, back to home.
Within seconds her stomach clenched, as it did constantly when she thought of having to see the bitch there. She even wondered for a moment if she might go and stay with Seph for a while, till the frakking woman was off Shangri-La and back on her precious battleship. Reaching a decision she sent a message to Shangri-La, telling them of her course change and if they could pass on a message to her sister that she was going to Babylonia. She reached up to flick frequencies and call the other ships when she bumped the bag carrying the cocoons from the last stop and it fell down beneath her feet. Not wanting to crush them she quickly reached down to grab it, banging her head as she started to straighten. Cursing and muttering she grabbed her head with both hands...
"Sting, this is SL Control, just letting you know there will be limited traffic movements later, in case you change your mind and were going to head back later." The radio operator waited for a response, pressing his transmit button again and calling Sting.
"She's probably already gone to Babylonia's frequency," the controller beside him said, grinning. "They'll tell her." He saw Sting's ident ping disappear off the DRADIS screen he was watching, behind one of the large freighters.
"Yeah, you're right. You wanna put the call through to her sister?"
"Consider it done. Might go and visit and deliver it personally!"
"Yeah, of course! Just a courtesy hey?"
"Of course, always want to give the best of service to those two!"
"In your dreams!"
"Oh yeah, there too!"
"SL Control this is shuttle 7953, inbound with cargo, request clearance to unloading dock..."
