ART: "Unspoken" for musamihi
Recipient: [info]musamihi
Artist: [info]sigune
Title: Unspoken
Rating: G
Pairing: Minerva McGonagall/Severus Snape
Media: Staedtler pens, red calligraphy ink (totally inappropriate for painting), grey ecoline, Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator for the frame
Warnings: incredible G-ness and utter worksafeness
Summary: Between Headmaster Snape and his Deputy Headmistress, what is essential remains unspoken.
Artist's Notes: One of the worst things about Harry's decision not to return to Hogwarts for his seventh year is that we only got a few minutes' confrontation between Headmaster Severus and Minerva. Augh! Here is my take on what we didn't see. I hope you like it.
I had great beta-help from C. Don't blame her for anything that looks awkward - that's totally my own fault.
NB: the strange thing they are sitting on is a Victorian conversation chair.

This is wonderful! Their expressions show tension and discontent, but their postures, leaning into each other like that, tell a different tale, at least to me. I love the chair, too. Very lovely piece! :D

*sighs with total happiness*

If you'd asked me what I'd most like to see as the opening hp_beholder entry, this would be it: Severus. Minerva. A Victorian conversation chair (*dies of furniture love*). Stylized black-and-white with a perfect note of red. Revealing, IC expressions. Exquisite shoes (and sleeves and fichu).

I like how believably weary they both are, and yet there's closeness despite the separation enforced by their circumstances (so nicely symbolized by the chair arm).

Totally satisfying, "mystery" artist.

Utterly gorgeous, Mystery Artist!

The pose is perfect - they look exhausted, as they should for that horrible, trying time, and are supporting each other - perhaps in the only way they can. The bright red splash of the settee draws the eye immediately to the center. I love the body language - him with his head bowed straight over his chest, hands cupped in his lap, his legs slightly spread - an open stance, while hers is closed - head tucked down into lifted shoulder, arms relaxed, but the hands buried in her lap, knees drawn together, feet pigeon-toed to bring some stability to her hunched form. It's as if what wants expressed - his beseeching for her trust and her doubts (but not out-right refusal) about same, can find expression only in the unawareness of sleep. Just brilliant!

What a gorgeous piece! It leaves so much unspoken and yet so much crystal clear. Very clever.
I love how much trust is implied in their positioning, in how they're leaning against each other. And between the choice of chair and Severus' sleeve and their shoes and the colors I am in awe of how perfect this is!

Really beautifully done.

Very lovely! I really like that the red chairs are the only color.

This is gorgeous! The white highlights in their hair lead into each other beautifully, and their clothes and postures mirror each other really well; that, I think, sets off the contrasted expressions even more. (I second what albalark said about their postures, too--Minerva looks almost as if she's pulling away, her face turned toward the reader but her head is touching Severus's. Very conflicted, yet so intimate.)

Ah, yes, and the matching shoes. Everything's better with quirky--yet perfectly appropriate--shoes.

Gorgeous! I love the symmetry of the composition, the colour contrast, and how their hair tangles together in the centre. Lovely work :-)

Oh, this is beautiful! Posture, expression, mood, furniture, everything. Love the casual intimacy of the moment, how they touch and draw strength from each other. Minerva's sleepy and weary face and Severus's somewhat meditative position -- it all seems so fitting and spot-on. And I love your style.

I also want their shoes and robes. All of them.

Perfect, my dear artist! The furniture. The pose. The hands. Just about everything. It more than makes up for the Snape-shaped hole the book leaves us with.

I love it, and I love your style. (all right, so much for 'mystery'.)

Anonymous, right.

I love the choice of colors here. And a conversation chair! (Oh those wacky Victorians.)

This is utterly lovely. The gorgeous little details of the clothes (his sleeve! I adore his sleeve!) and the styalised border and the oval frame and the red seat and their expressions and postures. Glorious.

Love love love! It's great to see how the mirror each other in sleep, though it looks like McGonagall's giving more push to her position. *g*

Simply wonderful. The contrasts between them, the way they're leaning against each other - supporting each other - make it so clear that things are unspoken because they're understood so clearly that they don't need to be spoken.

The details of their clothing, their shoes, their expressions, their hands, their chair are so perfect to get this message across.

This is so beautiful! I love the contrast, the color, the symmetry ... everything, in fact. The hair in particular is really striking; the way some of the lines flow into one another is just such an awesome detail. I could go on about the shoes, the sleeves, and the fact that I now know (a) what a conversation chair is and (b) that I would like one. This is all delightfully graceful.

The parts that really get to me are the expressions, though - so full of tension and yet restful, a quiet moment, if not a peaceful one, in an explosive and dangerous year. Touching but separated, sharing fatigue and trouble and something else ... honestly, your spot-on title says it all. Awesome. Thank you, Mystery Artist! ♥ This is fabulous.

I am head over heels in love with this drawing. The stylized black and white is just right for this pairing, with that shock of red (and oh, that chair...how perfect). There's such a lovely intimacy here in the way they're leaning, and in the way they've trustingly turned their backs and fallen asleep in each other's company.

What a perfect way to launch the fest!
