WHEN: Not too long after this.
WHERE: The clinic
RATING: TBD
STATUS: In Progress
The hospital couldn't help. Or maybe it was that they wouldn't help. Sam was never sure when it came to those sorts of things and honestly, didn't really care. To him, it was always the same. The doctors came in, they used big words he didn't understand, most of the time they talked to his dad like he wasn't even in the room. Then they poked him, prodded him, and told him that it was all going to be okay. If he was lucky they followed the lie with something for his pain.
The medicine always made him drowsy. A bit punch-drunk, his mom had said once. He yawned a lot and his eyes kept drooping shut only to flutter open a few seconds later to gaze wearily at his surroundings once more. The only constant through all of it was his dad and, fortunately even in this new setting, that much still held true.
Unfortunately, the other part that held true was how the hospital handled him. Because as soon as the pain had eased to the point of being bearable he could hear the all-too familiar speech begin. Insurance had to cover his treatment because it was just too expensive to do for free, and if insurance wouldn't cover it there wasn't much that they could do besides keep him comfortable.
Sam always wanted to inform them that he was about as far from comfortable as possible, but he always ended up falling asleep around that time. This time was no different, either, only instead of waking up back in his own bed, or in a hospital bed with the low tones of his dad arguing with the staff in the hallway, he found himself being carried into an unfamiliar building.
Head perking up a bit, the boy peered curiously around before maneuvering himself enough to peer up at his dad curiously. "Where are we?" he asked. His voice was low, husky, a side effect of sleeping the sleep of the heavily sedated. His mind was starting to snap back into place now that the bulk of the drugs had worn off, though. And with the return of his mental facilities came a fresh wave of pain that he bit back and did his best to ignore as he looked around once again with the sort of curiosity that only small children could truly manage.
