Nate hesitated, before he gave in and in return gave her hand a quick squeeze. Before letting go. He'd always cared for Sophie. There'd always been ... a connection, an attraction. One he'd never given much thought to, allowed himself to give much thought to, because first he'd been a father and a husband, then he'd just been a father. He had been in love with his wife, he loved his son and Sam was always his priority. He'd never allowed himself to think of Sophie more than beyond the job ... and when managed not to be so tight with himself, yes his mind had wandered. More so after the divorce. But that was it. Though at the moment, as briefly as his fingers had squeezed around hers, he wondered if his alternate self knew that he was a lucky man.
A loyal team, a beautiful woman who cared for him, and very soon a son, that could be ... would be healthy. If he didn't before, he had better now. Because this Nate was realizing how good it could be for the both of them.
"People do tend to be surprising." Nate murmured lowly, leaving it at that, before taking a sip of his coffee. His mind going, just for a moment, towards Eliot and Parker. Very surprising, indeed.
Quirking a brow at McCoy, Nate caught Sam's eye. He would be right there. For now? He'd sit. With the other doctors he'd been standing the entire time, breathing down their necks almost. But instinct told him to just sit, with this one. Not that he was afraid of McCoy or his legendary temper that seemed to always be on 'annoyed with you'. But maybe, just maybe he was buying into Sophie's hope and faith thing. "Shall we?" He asked her, waiting for her to sit down before him.
He listened to the conversation, glancing at Sophie. Mister Sulu stabbed Chekov? That was ... interesting. He was guessing it was Sulu from what he could remember from the show the two were best friends.
Nate did manage not to startle at Sam's shocked tone and words. The only reason, he himself hadn't question was because McCoy was from the future. It was quite probable that he knew of a cure, of a way to put it in remission. "Remember what I told you about this placing pulling people here, sport? Doctor McCoy is from .. the future. There's a chance that he knows a way that we don't know." It was worth a try, Nate would try every and single option.
