Sending a note to the Manager... [open]
Elaine has been working on this note for a while. There have been several drafts made and discarded but in the end, she was still unsatisfied. But either her request will be granted or it will not. Either way, she will not let it dim her happiness.

Deare Sire,

I have been wondring if you might help me. I am to be married very soon, as you may know, and I...am wishing to send word to my Father that I am well and healthy. I am from far in the past, and we do not have Telafones or any such Thynge as that. I have been much distrest that Father be worried out of measure and I just wish to communicate with him, if only just once.

I Thank you for your Tyme.

She rolls up her paper very carefully and sends it through the tube. She's never communicated with the Manager before, and she sits nearby, chewing on her lower lip and waiting.

A short time later, after she receives her reply, she goes into the Tea Room to begin writing to her father, with a cup of tea at her side.

The Management is delighted at the news of your upcoming marriage, and would like nothing more than to agree to your request. However, such a communication takes an extraordinary amount of energy and calculation. Therefore, it is requested that you prepare your missive, and return when you have written all you wish to convey to your, this will be the only opportunity we can afford you contact with him. When you are satisfied with your message, return to the Manager, and the utmost effort will be made to deliver it to the time and place you request.

Unfortunately, it will be impossible for a reply to be conveyed to you.

Elaine reads this note carefully. It's not all she hoped, but it was better news than she had expected.

Perhaps she can ask Sparhawk to write something to her father as well. He may never get a chance to meet him.

But at least Elaine could be at ease, knowing that her father knew she was safe.

She sighs. "Thank you."

She then retires to the Tea Room, to begin writing her letter.

Well, the first draft of it, anyway.
