"Super speed? You wouldn't want the extra strength?" Jill wasn't sure they got ripped off when it came to their gifts. Sure, they didn't have the strength and speed, and it seemed a lot of the ones here could even endure the sun in ways the Moroi couldn't tolerate. But the Strigoi couldn't endure it at all, so she would stick with what she was.
"We're born and we get magic. We can pass with the humans when necessary." The last part came out quiet. Jill had managed to pass in school, but she was learning here in Everett that suspicious minds weren't easily tricked. "I don't want to pass anymore though. It's exhausting trying to hide, and even more so trying to please."
She'd attempted to reach out to the one who seemed the angriest about them, and had failed to make a real dent in his opinion. Now he was gone, and she felt bad for his brother. She also hoped that wherever the man had gone, he was surviving. Humanity was on a fast decline, and that was sad.
There was a part of her that envied how Eric and Selene seemed to view humans though. It must come with age and experience. They believed they were above them, and they weren't about to change their ways to please the humans. Jill felt like she was constantly trying to change to please everyone, or maybe it was anyone.
She broke out of those thoughts and turned her attention back on Adrian. "Don't tell on me," she whispered so only he could hear. "Eric wants to meet Lissa, so I've agreed to introduce them. This should be amusing."
