She nodded along with her roommate's brief description of what was going on with her mutation. Rogue appreciated Isabel's confidence, it was a heck of a lot more than she had at the moment and without that support she might have given up altogether already. It was hard not to when she couldn't even trust her own body to do what it was supposed to.
When she was situated on the table, Rogue let out a small breath and tried to relax. You can relax all you want, we all know this is a big fucking waste of time. Her hands balled up into fists as she did her best to block out John's voice or at least ignore it. Hey, I didn't ask you to touch me that day, shoulda just let me burn those assholes alive. The world would've been fine without a few less humans around. Rogue had heard that argument enough times to know it by memory and it actually made it a little easier for her to let his voice fade to the background when Max turned his attention back on her.
"Okay." She closed her eyes and while John's voice grew increasingly louder, the tingling feeling of Max using his powers on her was a great distraction. It felt different from the few times she'd borrowed Logan's mutation to heal herself, this time her body wasn't doing any of the work and she was a lot more aware of it while it was happening. As the seconds ticked by, it sounded like John's voice was steadily being drowned out until she couldn't hear anything but her own thoughts in her head. Had it actually worked?
When Max pulled his hands by she opened her eyes and her lips pulled up into a small smile. She glanced over at Isabel and her smile widened into a grin. "I think, I think it worked." She could hardly believe it but she wanted to, god, how she wanted to. "How do you think we can-," she cut herself off.
Had you fooled there for a second, didn't we, dollface? She couldn't help but shudder at the sound on Jimmy's voice. Rogue'a face fell and she shook her head.
