Who: Julie and Spike
What: Isz hunting
When: Nowish
Where: The projects
Warnings: Violence
The more things changed, the more they stayed the same in Julie's little part of the world. She woke up every afternoon and tried to help out whoever she could, even if it meant giving her last box of raisins to somebody who needed it more than her. She helped them find apartments and food in some cases and just listened to them unload in others. She had her visitors and her cynics and friends and she had her Outback. She always had the steady thrum of The Jungle Queen inside of her.
The isz had been hiding in Julie's apartment for at least a day and a half. That had been the last time Julie had visited The Outback. The pesky little buggers tended to follow her through the portal as she came back to this side of reality. It wouldn't have been a problem if the isz stayed the same as they were in Pangea. Here they were twisted and demented little meateaters. They were blind as a bat but fast and sharp and sneaky as hell. It had managed to evade Julie for a full day and a half. To it's credit, Julie's apartment was easy for something small like an isz to hide in. She never threw anything away and if television was still a thing Julie probably would have been a candidate for one of those hoarders shows.
She pulled her hair back into a long blonde ponytail. When was the last time she had a haircut anyway? Oh well. One of those things that she didn't really think about during the apocalypse. Pulling on her ratty jeans that were riddled with so many holes they left very little to the imagination and a shirt that was practically falling off of her she had planned to curl up with a book for the rest of the night. Yep. An exciting life. That was Julie Winters.
That was until she spotted the dark little monster run past her in the hallway.
"Hey!" she shouted. She was surprised but only for an instant. She grabbed the shotgun over the door and raced down the hall after it. When she got to the living room she couldn't see it anywhere. "Where are you, you little bastard?"
"Meep meep."
Julie's head popped out the window just as she watched the isz shimmy across the pipes on the building and broke into the apartment next door.
"Damn it!"
Julie burst out into the hallway at the same time that the isz did. The isz no longer looked the same. It was a nifty little trick of the isz to be able to appear as whatever they dressed as. This one had obviously stumbled on a closet of little boy's clothing because that was exactly as it appeared. It looked like a little boy. Anyone who looked at it would think it was a little boy but Julie knew better. She popped the shotgun against her shoulder and pulled the trigger. She missed by a hair as the isz went running down the hall. Julie ran after it as fast as she could even as they approached Fangtasia. The blonde with the shotgun and the apparent little boy would both stick out pretty well there but Julie didn't care. She went racing after the isz down the stairs by Fangtasia and stopped to take another shot and another miss. Julie cursed and kept running after it.
