Anyone that knew Logan knew he was a rough mannered hardass with rage issues that could explode in any given moment. It wasn't something that bothered him, because it was the truth. He was like a wild animal in a fight, deadly and ready to slice into a million pieces anyone that dared to cross him.
Those that really knew him, though, knew another side of him. A side that would do anything and everything to protect anyone that he considered as his. At the school he had groaned and moaned at being put in charge of kids, because who in their right mind would trust HIM with kids? But, he had learned to grow fond of them. Rogue had been one of the first ones that he had learned to care for and protect almost as if she was his own, and in many ways it was because of that that he knew how to look after Laura and Emily now.
Laura and Emily. Laura felt her share of guilt for what had happened to Emily, and while Logan could understand it, he wished he could do something to help her see that what had happened wasn't her fault. He felt his own share of guilt at not being there, at not protecting the two of them, but well Logan never claimed he wasn't a hypocrite. He lived with his own share of guilt, so he would gladly take Laura's if it would mean her not tormenting herself. The last few days he had been doing his best to be there for the two girls, but he knew other than watch over them there was nothing that he could really do. Both of them needed time, and if Logan could only make sure that they could have it, then damn it that was what he would do.
Today he needed to take a break and go see Rogue, though. Somehow the knowledge that Emily had gotten hurt had made him restless and worried about Rogue, and he just needed to make sure she was alright. Her arrival in the middle of the whole leviathan mess hadn't made it easy for them to catch up, and at least they would have that chance now.
Returning the hug, Logan chuckled gruffly under his breath. He hugged her tight enough to lift her off her feet for a moment, because damn he had missed the kid. And he was just so damn glad she was okay.
"Well look at you," Logan said with a small smile after setting her back down, stepping back as if to look at her. "You look all grown up now, kid." Yes, kid. It wouldn't matter how old Rogue was, she would always be a kid to him. It wasn't said condescendingly, but rather it was affectionate. "It's good to see ya."
