Even to Daryl this was a big breakthrough. This was something he wanted in the first place but to have Carol come out....well he didn't want to admit it even to himself but it warmed his heart a bit. It also made him miss Rick and Glenn and all the others. They'd become a real family and he'd do a lot to get that back.
He probably needed them more than they needed him. Surviving out in the woods would never be a problem for him, but he wasn't a whole person without his makeshift family around. They'd left a mark on him...he used to be ruthless and able to do what had to be done. But now when he ventured out he caught himself standing up for innocents, going out of his way, and passing up prime self-serving opportunities. It was like a piece of their kindness broke off of him and buried itself in his chest and he didn't even know where to begin on getting it out. They had changed him.
He pulled the crossbow over his shoulder once the rest of his things were settled. Holding it in his hand felt a little more secure, and he walked a step ahead of her. "Run into any geeks on your way?" he asked curiously, gaze locked ahead of him and flitting to any tiny sound that reached his ears.
