He wasn't focusing on what she wanted him to focus on. Instead he was giving her that fucking look. That look was unfair. How could she even think about leaving him behind? She hadn't wanted to. It wasn't up to her though. It was just... the way things were. She grasped his hand tighter, her fingers wrapped around his.
Her eyes turned red and black veins trailed down her arm. It was the gift they all had, to take away the pain and suffering of others. Laura no longer had the gift out in the physical world which was okay because Derek's problem wasn't actually physical. Maybe here in his mind it would have the desired effect. She tried to take his pain, or at least take on a good share of it.
"I'm not asking you to," she said in a dark voice. "I'm telling you to. The last thing I'll ask of you as your alpha..." She tightened her grip on his hand. "And your older sister."
She squeezed so hard. If he was human his hand would have broken in half but they were strong, they were wolves, they were Hales. They persevered.
"Look at them. Look at them!" She demanded, glancing over at the kids at the table again. "We can't both live in the world of the dead. That's my burden. This one is yours."
