Lissa flinched at Jill's tone and pulled herself back to stop her from looking for the marks. Thanks to Adrian they had mostly healed, but he hadn't healed every last one completely. He'd offered again, but Lissa declined because she didn't want Jill sucking in more spirit than she already had.
"It doesn't matter. It's done."
If looks could kill, the look Jill had given Lissa would have done just that. She hadn't liked that answer and in her heart Lissa knew that it would make her angry for not coming out with the truth.
"He was inside my head," she said finally. "I let him convince me that this was the only way. The only way to... to make the weight go away." She looked into Jill's eyes again. Eyes that matched her own. "I know what I did wasn't right, but his other words were true."
Her face darkened again, but Lissa didn't care. She had to face what she'd done and accept whatever answer Jill had for her once it was all said and done.
