The closer they got to town the tighter and tighter Molly got wound. So much was going so wrong it was hard to remember which direction UP was. But she tried not to dwell on that. Everyone was worried. Everyone was freaking out and she would bet that pretty much the whole prison had broken, or at least cracked hearts. So she kept her mind on what she could do: work the search and rescue team, make sure everyone kept Ellis' garage the way he liked it, and deal with what was in front of her.
Which was Sam, being an idiot and having her wait in the car while testing the new girl. Except she could see how it would be a problem if the girl was really just a girl and not a monster. What was she supposed to think about some huge guy hopping out of a truck and handing her a box of soap. There was no way Molly would trust a guy who did that. He should have just let her do it in the first place.
The trouble with being younger was that everyone mistook "younger" for "dumber" or "not as savvy". Where, in Molly's opion, sometimes "older" meant "slower" and "not as sharp". She opened the door and climbed out, still holding the bottle.
"Hey, is Rogue your real name cause it sounds like something a heroine in a novel would be named." Molly walked towards her, deliberately keeping her tone light and her movements easy even as she got between her and Sam. "I'm Molly. This is Sam." She nodded her head towards him. "I know, the whole Borax thing sounds crazy but it's the best test we have. That Dick Roman guy you asked about and his friends do that whole freaky shapeshifting thing and -" Molly swallowed, pain flickering across her face, "we got burned by someone. So we don't let anyone in who fails the test."
She dug into her pocket and pulled out a small baggie of detergent that she'd started sleeping with. "See? It's the same stuff that's in the box." She dug her fingers into it and lifted them to show it wouldn't hurt. "No biggie." Which left Molly with a nice big handful of the stuff ready to blow it in her face and drag Sam to the truck if she had to.
