Who: Tony and Claudia
What: Oh, you know. Two techie geeks hanging out
Where: Naval base where Tony lives
When: Today
Warnings: Er. It's Tony Stark. Currently no major warnings, but will update when/if necessary.
Tony had been working nonstop on plans and projects that he just couldn't stop thinking about. Occasionally he'd find himself exhausted, and he would nap for a few hours in between working, patrolling, and going out on raids for supplies, but Tony didn't know the definition of downtime. Not anymore. Not when casinos no longer existed, booze was in limited quantities, supermodels were somewhere scattered in the world, and the world itself was as screwed up as it now was.
The base was the perfect space for him. It gave him enough areas to use as labs, and even if they paled in comparison to what he was used to, he didn't let that stop him. He had secured the perimeter, created firewalls and security systems that kept his inventions and labs protected, and an Iron Man drone was even on-call in case of a break-in. Tony was a paranoid son of a bitch, and he made no excuses for it. Other than his team and Reid, no one else really had access to the base without him giving them temporary clearance, and even then they didn't have the complete access for every area. The only one with that kind of clearance to all the labs, buildings, bunkers and basements was Steve, and that was only because he was his back-up if something were to happen to him. They had to have an emergency plan in place, right? And, well, Tony had secured enough weapons from nearby bases, as well as his own, to destroy a good chunk of the world - as far as he was concerned, only Captain America was capable of deciding what to do with that firepower if Tony Stark were to no longer exist.
That back-up plan was really the only reason why he figured he couldn't be so bent out of shape about what Claudia had shared with him. The idea that a Warehouse with so many valuable inventions could be burnt down to the ground so that they wouldn't fall into the wrong hands made his chest hurt, but...well, that was essentially what he would do as well. He had been horrified at the news, yes, and selfishly he wanted to find that warehouse and put it under his own protection, but apparently there was a process. And, as arrogant and hypocritical as he could be, some part of him did understand the reasoning behind it all.
What he couldn't understand was how he had never learned about Howard's involvement with the Warehouse. His father had never been big on sharing anything with his only son, but it pissed him off that something this big had slipped under his radar for so long. It only piqued his curiosity even more than what it already had, and when it was time to pick up Claudia he found himself speeding through the road to the prison as if his life almost depended on it.
Once she was in the jeep with him, though, all that was pushed aside and he played the cool billionaire inventor role well. Until he caught a glimpse of the Tesla gun, and his mind started whirling in a million directions with possibilities and ideas.
Once back in the base, and after Jarvis let him through the gates, he parked outside one of the bigger buildings and lead her to the entrance. The security codes were entered, and once the door was pushed open, he stood aside to let her in first. Ever the charming gentleman. The room was littered with a half-built robot, circuitry, torn down computers and servers, but by the window was one of his most important projects at the moment. Vegetables were growing under what looked like solar panels, providing light and even artificial ventilation that were helping the crops grow.
"Welcome to the madhouse," he told her with a very satisfied grin. His sunglasses were tossed aside as he walked in after her, and he rolled up the sleeves of the shirt he was wearing under his AC/DC t-shirt. Despite the improvement in weather, Tony still preferred layers to hide the glow of his arc reactor.
Right now, though, that was the last thing on his mind.
