Arms folded tight, Sookie took her time crossing the yard. Even before she saw Alcide making his way towards her, she had decided that there was no need to hurry. They'd meet halfway soon enough, so why should she bother picking up the pace? So he could see that she had been crying? So he could worry? Get angry at Eric, when he had every right to say the things he said to her? She didn't deserve his pity, especially after what she had done before the world fell into a downward spiral.
Alcide had loved Debbie, despite everything, and Sookie didn't like that one bit. She never knew if it was because of wrong, varying degrees of jealousy, or if she was just worried for a friend. None of it mattered when Tara fell to the ground with a single shot, not far from where Sookie had found Gran, wide eyed and lifeless on the kitchen floor. That had been her fault too. Sookie couldn't even begin to explain why she went through with killing Debbie. It had crossed her mind when Debbie started to beg, that Alcide would be so hurt if anything happened to the other woman, and God help her, it wasn't enough to keep her from pulling the trigger.
But there Alcide was. Coming her way, looking so worried.
Just like Gran had been. And Tara. And her parents. Even fucking Eric, who's heart had been so defenseless when she crushed it, came to her rescue, and fussed over her. A sob was trying to claw it's way up her throat, but Sookie swallowed it down and released a hard, shaky breath. She was rushing forward, just like she told herself she didn't have to do, but it wasn't towards, Alcide, it was towards the prison. had no business letting the werewolf comfort her, so she ducked her head down and changed her path to walk around him. She couldn't even be bothered to speak to him. She had realized during the storm, and her conversation with Tara, that she could barely recognize herself anymore. If she couldn't, why could Alcide? She didn't want an answer to that question. She just wanted to crawl into bed, and wake up in a time where she wasn't hurting people she cared about. She just wanted to wake up and be a better person.
