It was strange, knowing that his time on the road would be ending soon, but Alcide could feel the relief running through his body and making him slowly relax. He hadn't even realized how tense he had been for the past year while looking for Sookie and Rikki, until he started receiving messages from old acquaintances from the road and then finally Sookie. He had finally found her, and she was safe, and fuck it was just good to know that his friends were safe. The past few weeks he had spent it as a wolf, after getting caught in the snow storm and having to take refuge in a cave out in the wilderness, and right now he just wanted to finish the trip in his human form. He figured he needed to stretch out and actually go back to being human, if he was expected to live in a prison where there seemed to be a lot of survivors. He highly doubted that anyone would appreciate a wolf running around the place.
As he walked through the forest, the backpack he had been carrying with him throughout the trip secured over a shoulder, his steps slowed as he came to realize that there was someone near by. The enhanced hearing allowed him to hear the footsteps, no matter how quiet they were being, but it was the scent that made him stop. His shoulders tensed again, and unconsciously he let out a small growl under his breath. The wolf was ready to take over in case it was a threat, and he was ready to morph in a moment's notice.
Except, knowing very well that his blood was still running hot due to the weeks he had spent as a wolf and that he may be jumping the gun by letting himself change into the wolf, he cleared his throat slightly to get rid of the harshness in his voice that would have probably made anything he said sound like a growl.
"Who's there?"
