Who: Clint, open to anyone in the vampire infested area
What: Clint's brooding again.
Where: In Everett the vampire town.
When: Evening time!
Status: Complete/Open
Rating: TBD

It had been over two decades since he had lost everything that had mattered to him. When the vampires had decided to overrun and take over Everett Clint had done all he could to ensure that they failed. First by sniping them from a distance. High velocity moving bullets were very effective in making heads explode. When he had run out of ammunition for his Tac-50 he had gone in close quarters with his specialised arrows to help his partner. But when their position had been overrun he had forced her out. A task made easier by the mortal wound in his side. He had been ready to pull the pin on the thermite grenade and blow the room and building sky high but he'd been over taken before it could happen.

Then she had come along and changed him, forcing him to become a vampire. He had been ready to give up and die in the sun when he realized he could better help the survivors. So he played along with her plan, waiting for a chance to contact Natasha. But then the prison fell and there wasn't a trace of Natasha among the survivors. It had crushed him and it became an effort to keep his humanity on. He knew he could flip it off but he needed to feel the pain. To remind himself he wasn't a monster. Even if he was one.

Currently, the archer turned vampire sat at one of his favorite perches, one of the higher buildings, his feet over the side. He had a gun strapped to his left leg and his combat knife on his right. A bottle of Jewel of Russia Classic vodka was in his hand and half emptied already, the cap sitting nearby and fresh wax crumbs indicating it had just been opened. He lifted the bottle to his lips and took another long drink, staring off into the distance. Why he hadn't left Everett yet he didn't know. Perhaps because he didn't know where else to go or who would want him.

She nodded at him. "You helped humanity today," she said. She had no idea if the other vampire was aware of the people she had just sent racing for the woods. The only reason she had approached him was to distract him long enough for them to escape. She hadn't expected to make a friend. If that was even what this was.

"I'm Elena," she said, tentatively taking a few steps closer to him. "I live in one of the rebel camps not far from here. If there was ever some other way you wanted to help.... we wouldn't turn you away." She knew she was playing with fire. She had no reason to trust this other vampire but there was something about him that seemed so genuine to her.

Clint shrugged some. "Hooray for me," he said quietly. Hearing her name, Clint looked at her. He knew the name. Had heard Rebekah and some others mention it a few times. When she offered about helping the rebels he looked down and shook his head. "The people I get close to usually end up dead Elena." Sorrow filled his eyes as his hand drifted to the dog tag under his shirt. He had never found the other one he had given Natasha in the rubble of the prison where she was still probably rotting.

Forcing his thoughts away from his late partner, he looked back at the other vampire. "Clint," he said.

"I know what that's like," she said sympathetically. In Elena's lifetime she had lost a lot of people, including her parents both biological and adoptive. She had lost Damon and Alaric and her aunt Jenna. She had lost more people than she cared to talk about and she knew how that could eat a person up inside, how it could leave a hole that could never be filled. No wonder Clint was wallowing.

It was even worse as a vampire, they were destined to outlive everyone they cared about. That was what made that switch, the one you could flip to feel nothing so very tempting.

"It's nice to meet you, Clint. If you ever need anything... "

She had already put out the invitation for him to join their camp so the ball was in his court now. She knew the prudent thing to do would be to leave. She just hated leaving him in such a state.

Clint turned and looked at Elena. "I have no doubt you do," he said. He ran a hand through his hair and studied her. He wondered how many people she had lost. "What I need you can't give. No offense Elena," he said. Rising to his feet, the archer brushed some dirt off of his clothes.

"You should depart now before you're discovered. I've heard Rebekah mention you by name and you are not well liked here." He lifted his eyes and met hers. "I've no desire to see Rebekah torture more who do not deserve it if I can help it." His eyes shifted towards the forest then back to her. "Whatever business you had today here, I hope it was fruitful. And that the next time we meet, I'm on another day off."

She nodded at him, understanding his meaning. Just because he was on a day off today didn't mean he would always be so kind. He was employed by Rebekah after all who Elena was sure, would love to slowly torture her to death just for fun. And she didn't think Clint would stop her. Who would?

"Thank you," she said. Because she knew he was putting himself in danger just turning a blind eye to her today even if it was his day off. She hoped she hadn't said too much about the rebel camp she lived in. She wasn't sure what to make of Clint.

She looked down and then jumped. The fall would have killed a human but Elena landed neatly on her feet before taking off at full speed towards the woods where the humans she had rescued had dispersed.
