Who: James and Open!
What: James is out wandering
Where: Around the cabin he and his mother share with Clint
Status: In Progress/Open
Rating: TBD

The days had ticked slowly by since Clint had joined him and his mother. At first James was anything but fond of the idea. Clint was a vampire and had attacked him. But when he started paying real attention to things, he could see how much different his mother was. Natasha was...happier. More alive. It gave James enough pause to think that he should give the vampire a chance.

Sighing some, the teen wandered through the woods surrounding the cabin they were staying in, bored. Things for the moment were quiet but he knew that wouldn't last for long. He wanted to be ready in case anything happened. His thoughts eventually turned to that of his father and he wondered what Steve was doing now. Was he still alive? Was he fighting off the zombies and vampires that were threatening the world? And what of the other Avengers? Had they all been killed or worse?

James glared at her but stood his ground. When he heard her name he narrowed his eyes but kept his fists loose. Tight fists meant a loss in speed. His mother had taught him that. "Rebekah. Heard about you," he said. "James Rogers. What are you doing here?" he demanded.

He knew he was in danger. He had no way of contacting anyone for help and if Clint was any indication, she had a lot of speed at her disposal.

"All good things I'm sure," she said sarcastically. She doubted that anyone in this little dump had a very high opinion of her. Not that she cared or at least she could pretend she didn't care. Being on top of the world meant never having to say you're sorry. Rebekah had spent far too many days apologizing and those days were over. She was queen now.

"Rogers?" Rebekah tipped her blonde head to the side as she thought about it. She couldn't recall a single Rogers and yet he smelled so much like that redhead, Natasha, the girl that Clint loved. This could have been her child and yet... Rogers? How had that happened? Rebekah had to admit to a certain curiosity there. She had thought Clint and Natasha shared some epic love. Wasn't that why she had turned Clint in the first place?

"Who is your father? Your mother is Natasha, isn't she?"

"Positively glowing with praise," he returned, just as sarcastically. He knew he'd need to be careful on his word usage. He couldn't give anything away if he could help it. When she repeated his last name, he lifted his chin. More so when she started asking about his parentage.

Not seeing too much harm in admitting that his mother was Natasha, he nodded. "She is. And who my father is isn't your concern vampire." He looked her in the eye, not showing the bit of healthy fear he had and defiance shining in their blue green depths.

"What do you want?"

"What if I said I wanted a taste," she said with a smirk. This child had obviously been educated about her which meant Clint was here for sure. She wasn't about to bite anyone who had been ingesting vervain although there were plenty of other things she could do to him.

She walked past him a bit and looked down at the hunting shack. It brought back fond memories of her previous run ins with Deathwish. Most memorably, the night she stole all of his guns and gave them to Alec. Her boy certainly did love his toys and Rebekah was happy to spoil him with lavish gifts whenever she could. She had never met someone like him and doubted she ever would again.

"I could kill you in a second," she said without turning to look back to James. "So whatever you're thinking, I would stop if I were you. My business is with Clint. I have no interest in harming you or your mother unless you force my hand."

James kept his head lifted and defiant, not letting the fear rule him. He kept his eyes on her as she walked past him and stared down at the cabin he and his mother were staying at now with Clint. He stared at her back, his hands free of weapons.

"If I even had the weapon that could kill you I'm not as fast as you are. You could rip it from my hand and snap my neck like a twig." It was blunt but James knew it was true. He was well out of his league with Rebekah. But that didn't mean he was helpless. If she attacked he'd do all he could to make her regret that decision.

"Who's Clint?" he asked, deciding to play dumb.

Rebekah's blue eyes flicked down to look at James Rogers. She didn't have to say anything, it was all in the look. "You reek of him. Don't lie to me. I can hear your heart beating, I can hear when you lie to me. I can smell it too." She narrowed her eyes at him.

At least the boy was smart. He had grown on her ever so slightly when he acknowledged her superior speed and strength. It probably wouldn't have been much to anyone else but to someone as proud as Rebekah was, she enjoyed the acknowledgement that she was superior.

"I want you tell me, James and I'll know if you're lying. What has he said while he's been here? Is he planning to stay?"

He held her gaze unwaveringly. "I know him as Hawkeye," he returned, which was true. The stories his mother had told him she had always called him Hawkeye. He crossed his arms and stared at her.

"Why should I tell you anything about what he does or wants to do? You're not the boss of him or anyone." That was probably the wrong thing to say but he didn't approve of anyone who thought they should stand above others.

Hawkeye. Yes, she supposed she had heard that before but had always preferred Deathwish. And despite not being related to Clint directly it seemed that the wish had passed on to this boy somehow. Rebekah almost admired him for a second. Was she staring at a young Clint? He looked nothing like Clint and yet, there was that attitude.

Reaching out quickly she grabbed him, like an owl snatching up a rat. She held him by the back of his neck hard, not hard enough to do any real damage but hard enough to bruise.

"Stop being a little shit and tell me what I want to know before I start breaking your fingers and toes," she hissed at him. "I am his boss and I'm your boss right in this moment. And if you don't tell me what I want to know, I'm going to go ask your mother. Would you rather I do that?" She tightened her grip ever so slightly before shoving him away from her.

"So which is it? Are you a boy or are you a man, James Rogers?"

Grunting when she grabbed him, he glared at her. But when she made a threat against his mother... Stumbling when she shoved him back he regained his footing quickly and clenched his fists. He stared her in the eye, his eyes blazing in defiance. "I don't know what Clint plans to do Rebekah. I just know that he chose to stay with us after he found us in the woods."

It was the truth and James hadn't really pestered the vampire about his plans. Besides, he and his mother needed catching up and James so did not want to interrupt any of that.

She regarded him carefully for a moment before deciding that was the truth. James had no idea what Clint planned to do which only made sense. He was the child in the equation. Rebekah wondered how it felt to have to share his mother after all of these years and her expression softened a notch.

Walking past him she stared down at the shack, catching a glimpse of Clint and Natasha embracing through the window. She had never seen that look on his face before. He had served her loyally for years, she wasn't going to break up his reunion. He deserved a holiday. If she needed him in the future she would come back to find him.

"Pleasure meeting you, James," she said before she turned to head back towards the forest.

James watched her as she stared at the cabin. When she seemed she was leaving, he cleared his throat. "Why do you want Clint back?" he asked, curiosity in his voice. "I mean, you have a whole town of vampires. What makes him so special to you?"

Rebekah paused for a second at the sound of James's question before she turned around to face the boy.

"I made him," she said. He wasn't the only vampire she had made but Rebekah was selective. Most of the other vampires in Everett had been made by others and were just smart enough to know when to follow their betters orders. Rebekah didn't just go turning every pretty face who came her way. A person had to be special to receive such attentions. "And that makes him mine. Forever."

Which meant he could be Natasha's for a little while when eternity was in the mix. What was so interesting to Rebekah was that the redhead hadn't seemed to age very much. She was curious as to why and would find out. Just not today.

James shook his head at her words. "He has free will. That makes him his own person. Not yours." He lifted his head again, the wound he had gotten from Clint still healing on his neck. "Just leave us alone." It was probably stupid to be making demands like that but James wasn't growing fond of this woman. She seemed self entitled and superior just because she was stronger. That didn't make her right.

"You have a lot to learn about life and death, James," Rebekah said rather calmly. A fourteen year old wasn't likely to have the understanding of the universe that someone as old as Rebekah did. Life wasn't fair so why would should death be? And the blonde vampire felt she was being rather kind by letting Clint be to enjoy his time with Natasha.

Of course, should the time come (and it likely would) that she would need his assistance again, she would have no trouble finding them here and using James as a hostage if need be. Hopefully it wouldn't come to that but with Clint you never could be sure.

And as if he was nothing, she walked away from him. Because he was nothing.

For now.

James watched her go. He needed to tell his mother and Clint that Rebekah had been there and knew where they were staying. They needed to move but James wasn't sure where they could go that Rebekah couldn't track them to. Short of completely leaving the area at least. But like Natasha had said, this was the last area his father knew they were at.

Once she was gone he leapt up onto the branches of a tree using his natural born enhancements (having two biologically/genetically engineered parents had it's perks) and moved quickly but carefully down to the cabin, wondering what they would do.
