This is a lovely little fic, with Iwaki and Katou having wall!sex, but what I really like about it is what it reveals about the characters' personalities. This fic has top!Iwaki, one of my favorite things, and I love how it subtly reveals Iwaki's insecurities--it's a rare occasion when Iwaki is being the agressor, and when he's preparing Katou, he seems surprised when Katou moans in pleasure, and he says, "I didn't think you'd enjoy this," to which Katou replies with a smile, "Only because it's you." One of the things I love about Iwaki is his insecurities, and how at least initially, he seems to feel that bottoming is a little shameful and less than manly, and he always seems a little surprised that Katou is able to bottom to him without any reservations. And yet, in Book 2 of the manga ("Selfish Gene"), he's reluctant to top Katou, and Katou insightfully realizes that it's because "doing me might make you accept my feelings for you," and would imply a commitment that Iwaki isn't ready to make yet.

Another thing I liked about the fic is that Katou has to remind himself that their relationship isn't a contest anymore, and sometimes they tend to forget that. I think that's what I really like about Harudaki--it's clear that this is a relationship between two men, equal partners, not the stereotypical masculine seme and femmy uke, and it plays out in the way that they sometimes struggle for dominance and feel threatened by the other's success, a slightly different dynamic than there would be between a man and a woman.

Anyway, this fic pushes all my buttons, and it's a surprisingly insightful character study for a such a short story.
