The institution was nothing like one of those terrifying horror movie mental hospitals. Quite the contrary. Although it was obviously a modest place, the architecture was elegant and sound, and the lawns were well kept. Clearly the buildings were old, but they looked clean and fairly well appointed to the naked eye. The sky blue water tower looming behind it almost managed to make it look picturesque. But the latest blips in Cerebro's radar, coupled with Blindfold's predictions had unequivocally pointed to this as the source of the powerful psionic mutant signature being held against their will. Xavier had even managed to discern a name. Jean. Possibly Jean Grey, although he wasn't entirely certain if the Grey part referred to something or someone else. Her last telepathic cry had been confused.
Pete Wisdom had decided his team was ready to do some field work. This was to be their maiden voyage, as it were. The X-men had been deployed to a second address, an abandoned Perfect Soldier Project facility, which had been the last known location of one of his newest recruits. The mutant Ripoff, who counted adoptive muscle memory and mimicry as his power, had been sent out to follow a lead there while other operatives checked on other similar leads. A young X-man, Wolverine's daughter, had been sent as his backup. Namely, she was the muscle of the team. They had both vanished, so the more battle-ready team had been sent there while Excalibur came to this sleepy little town, home of the St. Andreas Home for the Mentally Infirm.
While each member of the team had been provided with a counterfeit pass, they still needed to proceed with caution. No sense drawing more attention to themselves than necessary, right? Right. Wisdom had split the group into teams, and he and Multiple Man had already infiltrated the place in disguise. Wisdom made for a rather shoddy janitor, but the janitorial staff around this place looked rather shoddy anyway, so he fit right in. He was glad for the chance to try out his American accent.
Pete was stationed in the back, where he could open the door for his half of the team: Wild Child and Nightcrawler. Gibs made for a very believable madman in his white straitjacket. It was a testament to his trust in Wisdom that he'd allowed the man to put a straitjacket on him, even if it was one that didn't actually lock. Multiple Man, on the other hand, was looking quite professional in his nurse's outfit, making his rounds with clip board in hand. Under the pretense of a late family emergency visit, he was ushering Psylocke and Blindfold right through the front door.
