The Funeral
Who: OTA [Post in with anyone who'd be there, but put in the subject if you're posting specifically to Havok or just an OTA subthread]
What: Gabe's funeral
When: Sunday afternoon
Where: Haven
Warnings: Angst.
It was a lovely setup. Some tasteful white flowers, a beautiful urn, a canopy...it all felt somehow strange and distant. He'd managed to get into uniform for this. As the team leader, he should set an example. Or something. It was a hint of identity, something to cling to now that the last of his family was gone. Again. The pain of that still made him rather ill, staring blankly at the urn that contained the ashes of what had been his brother.
The preacher had said a few kind words, then invited Alex to speak. He had trouble coming up with words, mainly because his throat kept threatening to close up on him. When he did speak, it was in a voice still rough with pain. "You all know...knew...Gabe. He was a good kid. I know he wasn't perfect, but none of us are. He was a good person, though, and he was my brother. I loved him." He had to pause there for a moment, before he could force himself to continue. "I know you loved him too." What else was there to say? That at the end he'd been scared, like everyone else? That the Cure had done this? Havok couldn't find the anger at that, right now. Later there would be time for such things. "He was my family." That seemed to be the only thing he could find to say, that one word...family...encompassing so much. A shake of his head there, blinking back moisture which threatened to spill over his face, before he turned and walked away from the preacher again, back to where he'd been standing before.
With that, Alex was apparently done. No tears from him, but it was fairly obvious from the set of his jaw that he was holding his emotion back. If anyone else wanted to speak, they were welcome to. The older Summers wasn't approaching anyone, just...watching. Unable to force himself to try and be social at the moment.
