Steph and Roxy had spent the day decorating the Desert Flower in preparation for the party and Steph was pretty impressed with the end result. They had a lot more space than they had last year, when the party had been - rather ill advisedly - been held at her apartment. This year, in anticipation of more people, they had wisely elected to rent out a larger space. Even more than a year into her time in Night Vale, she was still caught up in the novelty of getting to spend a Halloween not having to fight crime or deal with some kind of crisis. She felt like she and Roxy had outdone themselves. There were lots of blacklights, as well as strings of purple lights along the ceiling. They'd also gotten some fog machines for appropriate atmosphere. Roxy had animated some fake bats to fly around above the room and they'd done some truly impressive work with jack-o-lanterns. Then, of course, there were the skeletons. Roxy had promised dancing skeletons and she had delivered. Along with the cobwebs and fake blood and other things they had used, she was pretty proud of the work they had done. Will had offered to help, of course, and they had used him for some things, but mostly they'd had him running errands while they did the actual decorating. The end result was spooky and fun and Steph was really excited. The rest was on par with last year, minus the fact that this year there was also a bowling alley and arcade. She'd set up the waffle bar again, and there were other snacks as well, both things she and her friends had made and also snacks from the Fun Complex. She was very excited that there were nachos this year. There were also drinks, both alcoholic and non, in a wide variety. There was a screen set up in one area with a queue of Halloween movies and shows, and her Halloween playlist was going. Everything seemed ready. They'd cut it pretty close to the party time, so she had to rush to get ready, but that was the other great thing about having a witch as a best friend. Roxy had been able to help her do her makeup quicker than she ever could have herself, and she hadn't needed a wig when Roxy could just charm her hair stick straight and black. All she'd really needed to do was get into her dress, and her Morticia Addams costume was pretty much done. She was really glad Will had ultimately gone for the idea of Morticia and Gomez. After all, as all their friends liked to point out, they really were that couple. And this gave them an excuse to flirt all night. She did one last lap to check that everything was ready then settled down to wait for people to arrive. If everything went well, this would be another successful Halloween party. |
