Who: Lisa Braeden & Castiel
Where: The Last Resort
When: 9/3 - 1pm
What: Narrative - memories are returned.
While Castiel rarely lost control of his emotions, it did happen from time to time. The past weekend had been incredibly stressful, given what was happening to the citizens of Night Vale. He hadn't been hit with whatever it was, but Dean had been affected and it was bad. Refusing to lock his boyfriend up like a chained animal, Cas had chosen to keep a very close watch on the man. He had tried to take on what had taken over Dean's mind as he did with Sam years ago, but it hadn't worked. No matter what he tried, nothing changed, and he was left to sit there watching the other man repeatedly struggle with what he was going through. Though it had only lasted a few days, it had still taken quite an emotional toll on them both, and Cas actually felt exhausted. When the other Dean had messaged him and demanded he give the memories back to Ben and Lisa, he just snapped. It was something that had haunted him for years. The entire situation had been his fault and while he hadn't agreed with the request, he complied regardless. Having the other Dean throw that in his face was the straw that broke the camel's back. Not only did he refuse to give in to the demands of the other man, but he was also so enraged that he wanted to punch him in the face repeatedly. He wanted to show him that he was not a force to be reckoned with, but given the restful state of his boyfriend, Cas had been unwilling to leave the bunker. After a few days had gone by, he realized that he needed to right the wrong, as it wasn't fair to punish Lisa and Ben when they had done no wrong. His boyfriend still had not changed his mind about being there, and so, Castiel showed up outside of her door alone and knocked, waiting for her to answer. Given the current situation at the Last Resort, Lisa had decided she would be staying home for the day. The view from the windows of their apartment was absolutely terrifying and she was trying not to look. She was a little surprised to hear a knock at the door, and even more surprised to see Castiel standing there when she opened the door. "Lisa, hello, I am Castiel, a friend of Dean Winchester. May I come in, please?" "Yeah, sure," she nodded her head and stepped aside to let him in, closing the door behind him. "Can I get you a drink or something? You didn't take that strange elevator up here, did you?" "A drink is not necessary, I won't take up much of your time. I-" was something wrong with the building? He had simply appeared outside the door and was unaware of what she was referring to. "No, I can fly, so I don't need to use elevators." He stood before her, wearing his usual tan trench coat. He had thought it would make her feel a little more comfortable, but he had realized that Lisa never actually met him, and it was pointless, but he had worn it anyway. "Okay, so…" "I'm here to return something you lost, Lisa." "You mean... my memories of Dean?" She whispered in response and Castiel nodded. Lisa hadn't been expecting this, she figured that Dean would have given her a heads up or something. "Will it hurt?" "No, it is completely painless, I promise." There was a brief pause and he tried to find the words he wanted to say. "Lisa, I-" he wasn't interested in revealing every single detail he knew about Dean, but he needed to say something. "Before I do this, I want you to know a little about Dean, the one who is doing whatever with you." He wasn't jealous, he wanted Dean to find happiness and even love. "He drinks a lot, so just keep an eye out for that. Also, he pretends that things don't bother him, but they do, and...he’s kind of broken. Please, take good care of him." Lisa just nodded, not really sure what to say about all of that. Why did he even care so much? "Thank you, I'll keep that under consideration. I don't mean to be rude, but I have some work to do, so if you could…" "Yes, of course, I apologize." Castiel moved towards her and extended his arm, his palm hovering over her forehead. There was a quick glowing light from his hand, and then it was done. The removal of memories was always a bad idea, which was exactly why Cas hadn't done that. For some of the memories, he had simply replaced Dean's face with another, but for the more complicated ones, he had just rendered them inactive. They had been there all along, but her memory would have never been able to recall them. She felt the warmth against her forehead and the memories began to pour back in. From their first time meeting to Lisa being in the hospital, all in chronological order. She had loved him. She took a few steps back from Castiel, reaching up to quickly swipe away the tears from her eyes. "You haven't seen Ben yet, right?" "No, I was going to find him next." "That won't be necessary. I will speak with him first and then I will let you know. You can leave now." Lisa replied simply. “Yes, I understand. Again, I am so sorry for what happened, and if there-” “Leave. Please, I need you to leave.” She stated again, a little more firmly this time. Castiel simply nodded, and with that, he was gone, and she was left alone. Lisa wanted to be angry, and there was a part of her that was, but she was deeply hurt. She had opened up her house to Dean in his time of need and that was how he repaid her? She had tried so hard to make things work, she never pushed him for answers, said nothing when he was up late drinking. If Sam had never returned, could they have been happy together? For a brief moment, she wondered if they had ever mattered to Dean at all, but she knew better than that. She moved over to the cabinets and pulled a wine glass down from the shelf, grabbing a bottle of wine before falling down on the couch in frustration. A few tears spilled down her face as she poured herself a glass of rose and then lifted it to her lips for a sip. It was one in the afternoon and she was drinking. This was ridiculous. She was a strong and confident woman who had raised her son all on her own. They had been happy and that was what mattered, right? While she was disappointed and hurt, Lisa understood why he had done it, and she couldn’t even imagine what life would have been like for Ben after that. While Lisa was upset, so found herself angrier over the fact that it hadn’t been the Dean she knew to tell her. That he hadn’t seemed to care enough anymore to even pay the slightest bit of interest in them. Did he believe that Ben was his son? She didn’t want to think about any of it right now, but it was all right there in front of her now. She couldn’t avoid it. She couldn’t forget the look of horror in his eyes when she stabbed herself, or how he would have carried her barefoot over broken glass to get to a hospital. Why had he thought forgetting him was the right answer? How was Ben going to take any of this? That was something she needed to consider before she let Castiel contact him. While he was technically an adult, he was still her little boy and she had never stopped being protective of him. Despite the fact that it was only one in the afternoon, Lisa pulled her legs up under her and started in on her glass of wine. As if things weren’t complicated enough, then there was the other Dean, who was apparently a broken alcoholic and she wasn’t sure anymore of how he could fit in her life. Of course, she wouldn’t stop him from seeing Ben, if he wanted, but how could she put herself in the same position again? How could she trust him not to hurt her again? Although, it hadn’t really been him, yet at the same time, it was, and for the first time since she arrived, she found herself wanting nothing more than to go back home and pretend none of this had ever happened. |
