I never thought about what God gives, God can take away. She knows best, of course, the whole omnipotent thing and being able to see what is coming. Charlie Brown is gone, and it was just when I was seriously considering let him kick the ball. And in no way is that a euphemism for something else.

Maslow's Hierarcy of Need:

Physiological Needs: Being a slave to the weakness of the flesh. Eating, breathing, sleeping. One cannot function unless these needs are met. Interestingly enough, sex is listed among these needs. There's an argument there.

Safety: That we won't be eaten by a bear while we sleep. Once our bodies' needs are met, we can focus on securing our family, our source of income, and, again, interestingly, our own morality. Apparently sticking to our set of ethics is a very basic need.

Love and Belonging: We are social animals. We crave companionship, families, soul mates. Without these we cannot continue to explore, to turn our thoughts outward towards transcendence. Some of us have taken a hit here recently. I miss Charlie Brown.

Esteem: Now that we are secure in the love of those around us, we can start loving ourselves. It's strange that we cannot accept ourselves until others accept us. Perhaps we are our own worst critics. It is only that we accept ourselves in this manner that we have the courage to take the final step to....

Self-Actualization: Morality. Creativity. Spontaneity. Problem solving. Acceptance of facts. Lack of prejudice.

There is a hot topic going around right now that there is another step about this one, transcendence. It is causing quite a stir, since it is taking psychology into a more... spiritual arena. Transcendence, some may argue, is actually the heaven we all strive to reach.

I'm rambling. I see people hurting and I keep returning to this and thinking how the whole pyramid crumbles if basic needs are not met. If anyone wants to talk I have made a new kind of chocolate chip cookie in which I have added almonds.
