Downtown was bustling with activity and sounds, and the familiar scent of food and people made her think of home. Colorado air was a hell of a lot cleaner than what she breathed in Chicago, and it wasn't quite as crowded, either. She thought that, since the weather was so nice, she would busy herself with learning the area while grabbing some groceries for the RV. And a few new sets of clothes, but Beau didn't have to know about that until later. Besides, all of her jeans were worn and frayed, and her tee-shirts were fairing much the same.
So she dropped Beau off, made her way downtown, and parked the truck in a parking area that she assumed would be simple enough to find her way back to once she was done shopping. Two hours later and she could have sworn that she'd made the same circle at least a dozen times, but the beat up truck was nowhere to be found. She hadn't thought to bring a map, and even if she had the bags upon bags of groceries and clothes would've keep her from being able to hold it, anyway. Elizabeth made a note to herself to never ever tell Beau that she'd gotten herself lost; he teased her enough about her terrible sense of direction, anyway.
Half an hour later and she was about to reconsider the promise to herself when a familiar sign caught her eye. She thought she remembered seeing the particular restaurant on her journey to the clothing store, which would mean that she was getting closer to where she parked. Unfortunately, with her attention focused on the sign, she didn't see the sudden incline on the sidewalk. And, without warning, she landed hard on her knee, causing a shower of groceries and clothes to occupy the sidewalk around her.
"Fuck it all," she muttered, and quickly began to try and scramble to regain the bags, not to mention her dignity.
